hi guys/girls, i am a hairdresser myself, and it really annoys me the way people say its impossible to go blonde if u have dark hair,,, its not!!! i have dark brown hair naturally, like really dark brown and i have white blonde hair!!!, it just takes ALOT of patience! if you have virgin hair (no colour on it whatsoever) it shouldnt be to much of a problem and you should be able to get it a nice blonde colour after about 3 weeks, 1 application of bleach a week, NEVER more, you may need a ash/champagne blonde toner but these are easy enough to get hold of from you local superstore/pharmacy.

If, however you do have color on your dark hair, the best thing to do it try and grow as much of the colour out as possible, If you are unpaitient like me, you need to find the HIHGEST level of peroxide you can find which is usually no higher than 5% in shops, the best thing you can do is go either to a salon and get the job done proffesionally, or go to a hairdresser supplier such as sallys or aston&fincher where u can buy peroxide in more levels, 6%, 9%, 12%. 12 being the blondest. this however can be EXTREMELY damaging to your hair, in extremes the hair can get so damaged there is literally no other way to repair the damage apart from cutting it off and growing it back again.

Another product you should try and get your hands on before dying your hair ANY colour but espescially blonde, is a 'perosity evener' these are basically just little does of a creamy liquid that you work through dry hair before colouing it, they even out the perosity so you dont get patchy results such as ginger in parts and blonde in others, you just get one colour all over, these can only really be bought in higly reputable salons such as toni&guy and are usually no more than $5.00.

Good Luck... and remember...

dont put a red dye thru it first because the red pigment will make it turn orange copper color when you try to lighten it, probly the best thing i have learnt from all my hair dying experiences is just to get it done prosfessionaly especailly when dealing with bleach. = ) hope it all turns out good.

Also will doing this drastic of a color change really make my hair brittle and cause a lot of breakage? Thanks.

hi i did mine nearly as light as jessica simpson, if its your natural colour now then id recomend B blonde its a form of bleach using a 30 or 40 vol peroxide but dont put it on your scalp as it will burn and leave you with scabs it wont make your hair that brittlw but when your blonde wet your hair and soak it in conditioner put a plastic bag or a shower hat over your hair and use a hairdryer on it for about 15-20 mins and it will improve the conition also use hot oils they really help or if you are really worried then go to a hairdresser but it may be pricey good luck

Not enough blonde.

Postby kimchinoodle » Sun Oct 07, 2007 9:11 pm

My problem is I trieds to dye my hair blonde yesterday.
and it wasn't a high enough blonde to really work.
Sure, my hair is a little lighter but not much.
Would it be possible to go to the drug store and get a higher blonde
and dye it or do I have to wait?!

turning dark hair blonde

Postby ciara150 » Tue Oct 09, 2007 11:00 pm

i have naturally DARK hair and about a month ago i dyed it black but it doesnt seem to have taken much and is now dark brown on top and darker brown/black underneath. i am wanting to go a barbie blonde /white blonde not a dark/chick blonde. i was just wondering after reading some of the posts if i should strip out whats left of the black before going to a salon or if i should just wait and see what they say at the salon. the thing is i dont want highlights or to go a medium blonde then light blonde as this would cost even more money. can any1 advise me on what to do. how much does it cost approx if the salon strip the colour out before they re-dye it.
thanks ciara

i have naturally dark blonde hair but i have dyed it often for a very long period of time.
now my hair is practically black with some red-brown highlights in the sun.
im getting tired of redying my hair every time my roots start growing in so i was hoping to go back to a dark blonde/light brown with some lighter blonde highlights, etc.
but i want it to look natural.
kindof like the actress natalie zea who is in a show called dirty sexy money which i ike, i was just wondering if it will be possible for my hair to turn out like this without too much damage.

and if so is bleaching or stripping the only option?

I normally have dark hair & I've been trying to dye it a dark blonde shade. I just can't seem to get it right. everything I use seems to be either too light or not light enough.

Orange hair...yay

Postby cute lil mosher » Thu Nov 15, 2007 2:51 pm

Hey, long story short I've had 2 wee miracles, have stripped black out my hair successfully, and have dyed it a ridiculous amount of times in the last week and my hair is still n perfect condition.

I know the score about hair damage and so on, I am really just wanting some advice about the gingery orange hair I have right now. Whenever I dye even a strong blonde over it it just goes lighter orange. What do you suggest? Is it just time to give up and go to the hairdresser?

My natural colour is mid brown, and I have been light blonde before. I would like my hair as blonde as pssible.
