Okay so I dyed my hair black...like everyone here. it's perminent and it's lightened a bit naturally. I am blond but I love dying my hair so it went pink then red then black. Now I have dark brown hair with a redish tint. I love the color but I want to put this really cool purple in it because I've gottren used to my hair. I have to change my hair when I get used to it. I tried the head and sholders thing and I guess it lightened a bit...not enough though. Then I did something stupid...I mixed head and sholders with some random stuff from the bathroom that I have no clue what it is because it sais it contained bleach. I just did that but I only left it in for like 10 minutes because my head started burning...did I mention I'm allergic to bleach? So I'm not a very smart person...how can I lighten my hair without bleach?

However it then emerged that I also had black dye in my hair so she wud also have to do a colour correction procedure, anyway she did this and put black dye in other bits of my hair where my previous colour was, the highlights are non existent and my hair is now PITCH BLACK, I went in for highlights and came out with black hair, on top of all tht she charged £65 and I feel so conned, I am so so so unhappy with my hair and I dnt know wht to do, its too black, she said she'll be able to fix it but i know how hard it is to strip black hair dye. im scared tht bleaching it again is gona damage it too much, and I dnt think I can wait til it grows out as its already really getting me down. I'm going bk to the salon on wed. Help meeeeeeeeeeeee

Ive heard if you bleach black hair it has the chance it may fall out... is that true?? I have really dark naturally black hair, which i dyed darker to make an all even color, and now i want to go redish-brown maybe even platnum blonde, then put in soft black highlights... can i achieve this without my hair possibly falling out?? thanks!

Do not think about trying this yourself. I cannot stress that enough. Don't bother with these shelf products from Boots- they're rubbish. I myself am a stylist and you wouldn't believe the amount of people we get coming in complaining about how bleaching their hair from black to blonde has turned it 'orange'.
The only way to achieve blonde hair from black is to bleach it. This will mean you have to pass through a 'cycle' of colours to get your desired shade. If you want lighter, whiter blonde, this will mean bleaching the hair with a high volume peroxide (40) several times, as dark hair contains more colour pigment than lighter hair. This will be very damaging on your hair.
Even after this repeated bleaching, your hair may still contain the yellow, brassy tones. You will need to use a white or silver toner to help make the hair look more natural. Toners are a weak dye that help make the hair look more natural. Its purple/violet colour helps neutralise the yellow tones making them whiter.
At the end of this, your hair will be extremely weak. You will notice it is taking longer to grow. You may find it breaks off when you comb it.
You will find many salons unwilling to undertake this process. They are not being 'chicken'. They just know the very damaged state your hair will be left in. Bleach is strong stuff and should never really be applied to the scalp. Listen to your hairdresser, afterall they're the professional aren'y they?
They will most likely instead suggest you go blonde in stages. This will be much gentler on the hair. It will take longer, granted, but your hair will look in much better shape. If you find a good salon, they should be able to lift your hair significantly blonder after a few sittings. Highlights can be expensive, yes. But isn't the health and condition of your hair more important in the long run? :]

okay, so god only knows why this happened - but i bleached my hair and used a semi permanent (natural instincts) black dye which ended up looking really good and really professional, but i'm naturally a red head and when my roots started coming in i decided it was time to go back to a more natural shade. i bought extra strength "Color Oops" and used that, thinking it might work because my black dye was semi permanent. well, it worked really well and i ended up with a slightly uneven brownish orangish color, which i thought was impressive considering it doesn't use ammonia or peroxide. the box said it was safe to recolor immediately afterwards......but when i put on the strawberry blonde permanent hair color, my hair IMMEDIATELY turned black again and now i'm stuck with an ugly black shade and strawberry blonde roots! i have no idea what happened here, but i think i'm going to try the color oops again and just leave it like that, even though it's not the most flattering. anybody know why my hair turned black again????

Well I have natrual dark blonde hair A year ago I died it black and kept it black for a year yesterday I decided to try and get the black out and bleached it, It very well did turn orange! Then put a medium brown on top and wala it is medium brown and not black! eventually i would like to go lighter so i am going to keep posting my results. If you have black hair I think it is good to bleach it out and put a brown on it and slowly take it to the color you want. Better on your hair and you can guess better when it comes to the tone it is going to be when changing it!

About 2 days ago, i decided it would be a good idea if me and my friend died our hair black together, OH and get this, we got it from a dollar store for 2.75 (american dollars). I got home, and to my horror, it had amonia in it, and went pitch black. I hate it it ititititititit hate hate hate it. :( My mother hates it, my friends hate it. I hate it. So i need to know ifanyone bleached their black out if it turned their hair white or back to their natrual color, i need to know!! :?

I dyed my hair black.. licorice to be exact...it went a lot darker black than i expected but i went and got a tan and started wearing lighter, beachier colors and it looks so amazingly sexy! very Adriana Lima...anyways, i dyed it 5 months ago and its definately faded to a dark brown, reddish in the sun. So theres still hope dont worry! it DOES fade

i recently dyed my hair black because i had black hair about two years ago and absolutely LOVED it. no one i knew had black hair and it made me feel different, rebellious, etc. actually, i kind of started a little trend among my friends and co-workers. four girls that i know of dyed their hair black after me. so if it's your first time with black hair... i suggest just rocking it. carry it with confidence for a while.

unfortunately i learned that you can only go through a black hair phase once though because when i dyed it black again a few weeks ago, it didn't feel the same. it was a look i'd already worn for over a year. so, i decided to i wanted a medium-dark brown instead.

so for anyone that absolutely hates their black hair and only wants to lighten it a shade or two... i suggest just going to sally's and getting a 40 developer and a light brown color... if you've never tried this before it's very simple. you mix equal amounts of both developer and color, put it on your hair, 30-40 minutes, wash it out, and you're done. that's what i did and now my hair is the med-dark brown i originally wanted... it looks great.

Hmm. I have a question, not about getting rid of my black hair or lightening it, but 2 days ago I dyed my hair black, very first time ever dyeing my hair, and i absolutely LOVE it. Although, the some places on the sides and back are still brown, my natural color. Is it safe to just re-dye?
