removing black dye

Postby guest1010 on Sun May 08, 2005 6:00 pm

Color will not lift (lighten) color. If you colored your hair black, and try to put a brown or red color on it, only the new growth will get color. Go to a professional and explain that you have a color on your hair. They will use a bleaching product to lift the color but they will know when to take it off to get the desired color and to do the least amount of damage. If you choose to do this at home, avoid the 1" of hair closest to your scalp and apply it only after the rest of your hair has lightened significantly. But really, this is what the pros are for!!

black hair dye

hey guys, i am also pro stylist for ten years w/ my own salon in texas. let me go into a little detail for you guys, when you color your hair with a permanent color there are two main ingredients, amonia which dissolves your natural pigment, and peroxide which expands the artificial pigments in the hair. therefore if you have used a permanent hair color nothing is going to pull the black out and restore the old color. what you have to do is pull out as much of the black as you can then dye it brown. ANY color remover is going to leave you orange, because when the black molecules are dissolved all that is left is stripped out hair. WHEN PEOPLE SAY IT IS GOING TO BE ORANGE THAT IS NORMAL BECAUSE IT IS NOT a one step process. I GUESE YOU GUYS ARE OVERSEAS AND DO NOT HAVE A SALLYS BEAUTY SUPPLY ON EVERY CORNER, but if you have acces to the stuff i'll tell you what to use, but do not try to get it to say, a blonde color at home. there is a product called effasol, it is a blue creme, this product is drying but will not dissolve your hair the way that bleach will, keep in mind the girl with the conditioning tips is totally right you can undo alot if you condition the hell out of your hair. the effasol will leave you orange and you follow the directions on package, then you put a brown on after you've rinsed it off. keep in mind that every color company has similar products, for example UNCOLOR has a product just like effasol and i'm sore the one someone recomended from matrix is the same thing. if you dont want to attempt this yourself, maybe you can ask about the use of these products. now a beter product to use which actually goes into the hair and shrinks the old molecules from the artificial pigments then you scrub the hair vigorously three timesto get the molecules out, then you recolor the hair. the problem with this method is that sometimes you don't get all the molecules and when you put new color on the hair the old moleculse re expand in the hair, so sometimes you have to do it over and over, but it is much less damaging to the hair, the names of this type of product are, jeri redding color remover in a yellow box at a beauty supply, or the proffesional ver that i know of is called swartzcof MODULAT. HOPE ANY OF THIS INFO HELPS, IT REALLY IS BEST TO GO GET IT DONE IN A SHOP BUT ASK WHAT PROCEEDURE THEY ARE GONNA USE, I ONCE MELTED ALL THE ENDS OF MY HAIR TOGETHER AFTER 9 HOURS OF BLEACHING TO REMOVE COLOR BACK WHEN I WAS IN BEAUTY SCHOOL, THAT IS NOT THE BEST ROUTE.

black to blonde :\

Postby swirlzz on Sat May 14, 2005 3:17 am

i had my hair dark brown with black streaks, and the undernieth was black, but i decided today that i wanted to ATTEMPT to go back to my light blonde color. so i went to Sally's and asked what i should do, and what i should use. the lady gave me this bleaching powder and told me to use it with 30 developer, and then i picked out a light ivory blonde color and mixed it with a 40 developer.
after i put the bleach on my head for about 45 minutes it turned a white blonde where my natural hair was growing out, dark reddish orange brown where my black was, and a orangy yellow where my dark brown was. ugh. i still had a little faith since i still had to put the hair color on. so i did that, and waited like 30 minutes....it toned the orange down a lot, but not enough for me to comfortably wear it out in public...now i dont know what i should do. i don't know if i should bleach it again...or get a blonde hair color that has a blue base, because my friends beauty school teacher, said that a blue base formula will take out the orange. *shrugs* any suggestions???

I Just Did That Same Thing and Preference by Loreal makes a new hair color just for dark hair only (brunettes) i would get the golden brown
i used it and it lightened my hair up 2 shades.

it looked alot more balanced and toned down.

re fading black dye

Postby shelblylynn on Thu May 26, 2005 3:14 pm

I recently dyed my hair dark brown but it turned out nearly black. Okay not so bad, I just added some dramatic red highlights. WAY too red. Candy apple red. I used the same color dark brown again. Made the red look subtle and nice, but the rest of my hair was way too dark. So I added a little baking soda to Head and Shoulders shampoo, and after a couple of shampoos throughout the day it faded to a nice dark brown. As I was shampooing I noticed the suds in my hands from the shampoo was actually the color of the dye. I also learned from a stylist that there is a 48-72 hour window to fix your hair without damaging it when coloring (not bleaching) it. It takes that long for the hair cuticle to close since it's blown open by the dye. Also Volumizing shampoo will help to fade quickly since it blows open the cuticle.

Black Hair!

Postby wyldkat on Thu May 26, 2005 8:17 pm

I have had self dyed black (and unusual coloured) hair for 10 years, so I guess pretty exprerienced when it comes to dyes. My natural color is a kind of mousy blonde *yuck* A couple times a year I decided I need a change and bleach part or all of my hair.

I love black hair and would never go back to being mousy, but occasionally I like to add the odd streak of colour, like and intense red or purple.

I can honestly say I have not had any trouble and I have a massive build up of perm black dye, but been told "luckily" its in good condition and very healthy looking. I am NOT a hairdresser and woudn't recommend the following if you are not used to self bleaching/dying, but this is what I do :)

For a week or so before bleaching I use fairy liquid and a very intensive conditioner ( something like Aussie 3 minute Miracle) I was told by a very experienced hair dresser that the fairly liquid removes alot of the previous dye out, but WILL take essential oils out of your hair, hence the intense moisturising conditioner. I use Jerome Russell 40% bleach and start at the ends leave on for about 20 mins and then work it closer to the roots. You will never get it 100% even as you roots will always go lighter but the black will be out. The base will be a sort of brassy yellow. On this you can put your dye. I wouldn't recommend using a peroxide based perm dye on bleached hair and it WILL ruin it, but a gentler semi or wash in wash out dye. You hair will now be alot more pourous (sp?) because of the bleach and will take the semi dye in.

I am dying mine tomorrow. Jus watch now... it will all fall out...lol

This is to the lady who had a problem bleaching her dyed black hair.

Hey. That sounds a little strange. I dye my hair alot, and I do it myself. I am pretty good at getting the results I want. I just dyed my hair all black, and then I bleached the bottom of my hair. So all is black except the ends of it. They came out a golden color. It looks nice. I had no problem with dying it though. You should be able to get highlights in your hair even if it is black. Bleach is to strip the color from your hair, so it should strip the black from your hair.

Hi everyone, I tried the ColorZap today after getting my hair dyed black(and hating it). It worked! Yes, it did turn my hair orange but it's supposed to because you're supposed to dye it again right afterwards. The trick to making it successful is applying it to the ENDS first, and THEN the roots. I only spent about 20 minutes with it on and it made that black disapear. I colored it a light brown afterwards and then conditioned it for about 20 minutes to get some moisture back in my hair. VOILA! 3 hours later I have light brown hair!
