I wanted to get an earring for a long time. I worried about the reaction, but never had the nerve to do it. Then I finally took the plunge & pierced my left ear. I got a few looks at first, but no one said "why did you do it?" Way cool!!

A few monthes later, an earring in my right ear followed.

Now I'm sporting a hoop in both ears. It took a while, but I now love having an earring in both ears.

If you want it, then go for it. Enjoy!!!

It was the same with me. Had my left ear pierced in '91. I remember being embarrassed to go up to the woman at Piercing Pagoda and tell her I wanted to get my ear pierced. I was also apprehensive about how family and friends would react. The few comments I got were generally positive. I also got some good-natured ribbing from my buddies. When I got the right ear done last year at my nephew's urging I thought maybe that look would be too edgy for a guy my age -- 56 -- but really glad I took the plunge. I too usually wear small hoops in each ear, along with a small stud in the second hole I had added in the left ear. I feel self-confident and really love my new look.

Once pierced, after a while no there's just no turning back. I've progressed to a 2.5mm left ear BCR - originally bore done years ago. Becomes an essential part of you - take it out and you feel uncomfortably wrong. I'm now totally addicted, can't live without it - it looks good, feels good, it's me and it's right. Pierced with pride.

After a time wearing earrings, if you take them out, it's actually quite uncomfortable trying to live without them, so they become a necessary item. With a 2.4mm and a 3.2mm well-established above the lobe, guess they'll be hanging in there for ever. They feel good - and, I reckon, they look great.

How did other people react on your earrings and did you get any negative comments about that?

If you want to wear earrings, by all means go for it. Get your ears pierced. No big deal nowadays. I had my left ear pierced in 1991 when I was 39. None of the men in my family had an earring and at first I thought I'd get some negative reactions. I didn't. I'm a pretty conservative guy in a pretty conservative family and nobody really says much of anything about it. I had my right ear pierced last year and a second hole in the left. A few of my friends tease me about it but that's OK by me. Just keep the earrings simple and masculine and they'll look good. If you decide later that you don't want them anymore, all you'll be left with is a barely visible mark where the hole closed up, so you've really got nothing to lose. Good luck.

You are right that eventually there is no turning back. I have worn earrings long enough that my piercing holes are permanenet. Even if I were to stop wearing earrings and never wear them again, I will always have those little holes in my ears proclaiming my love of earrings in my ears.

I am 47. I spent four months in Europe this year. I pierced my left ear when I was 12 but never had the nerves to wore it. I was too concerned about how people would react. During my trip, instead of buying souvenirs I offered myself a pair of earrings and wore them until I returned to work. Why not! I found people's attitude fairly more open in UK. I should say that they are not regular one as they are for stretched piercing so the hole will never close up... I am a teacher!
During my trip, I have met a lot of teachers and professionals. I never had any comments everywhere I was welcome. I loved that situation. Now, I wear them only during weekends and holidays. I am just anxious to be retired… to be free.

I am 74 and have had permanent ear piercings for about 50 years. I wanted to be pierced the first time I saw pierced ears - on a girl - there were not very many men with pierced ears at that time.

I now have three holes in each ear - and will probably stop at that. But, coward that I am, I only wear one gold stud in public.

I got left ear pierced a few months ago. My wife said it doesn't suit me at all. I took it out after a week or so.
Now plain again. Kind of want something pierced though. Don't know what to do. Don't know why I want something pierced, I just do. Sick of being plain.........

I've worn earrings ever since my wife pierced my ears on our honeymoon. Almost always its gold hoops -- I love them and my wife says they're sexy. I wear them to work all the time with no problem. Of course its easier for me since I'm in an artistic profession.

While I can not comment on the UK or Europe in general, I find in most large cities in the US, single or even two pairs of earrings on guys are not viewed as much out of the ordinary. As such, your fears are probably unfounded.

I'm an older male, and have been fascinated by pierced ears for much of my life. About 2 years ago, my wife said that I would look good with pierced ears. "One or both," I asked. "Both," she replied. So, my ears were pierced. Except for professional situations (working with clients) and with parents and family, I wear earrings all the time. No one has said anything. Most of the time, I wear studs, but, occasionally, silver hoops. My wife then suggested that I get a cartilage piercing. Of course, I readily agreed, but said that I wanted double-pierced earlobes and a cartilage piercing in each ear. As soon as I get a break from business travel to allow some healing time, these will happen. The double- & cartilage piercings will be for our enjoyment only, but the single earrings will be for public view.

Since I've had my ears pierced, no one has said anything, except a woman at a coffee shop where I stop fairly often. I didn't ask if she liked them, but I take it that she did, or she wouldn't have said anything.

Who knows? Maybe triples? Four?
