Dont let the b.astards grind you down and all that lol. I know on the day it was nerves for me - the examiner was a big fat b***** but it was my fault I failed at the end of the day so Im not going to pass the buck on this one.

Driving Tests

Postby magicmonkeysam on Thu Apr 19, 2007 10:46 am

Hey everyone, I failed my test yesterday, it was my 2nd attempt (the last one was 2 years ago) it is such a financial drain, I only got 2 minors but I got a serious on the way back to the test centre, there is this huge roundabout and I got into the wrong lane but instead of letting me follow that lane the examiner told me to move into the correct lane, as I did some idiot came racing up behind me and honked his horn as I cut him up, if he hadn't have honked I would have got away with a minor and my instructor is furious as the examiner should have let me stay in the lane I was in. I am gutted as it was in the last 5 minutes and my theory runs out in the 1st week of May and there seems to be no tests in the entire county until June, rubbish!

I know someone who just failed their first attempt a couple days ago. They were turning left (1st exit) on a large roundabout and there was someone in the centre lane but not in the outer so the guy pulled out as it was safe to go. Then, when the guy was about to turn off, the guy in the centre lane changed his mind at last minute and cut the guy on his test up. I thought this sounded a bit dubious as I was always told it was ok to go as long as the outer lane was clear but apparently not.

I failed my driving test for first time today. Did my best ever reverse round corner and turn in the road they were all fine. My examiner was really nice we was talking about holidays and everything. On the way back on this dual carriageway it was 40mph and as i can to this sign which said 30mph i was doing 35mph and was slowing down more and more. I was so sure i had passed when i arrived back he turned to me and went im really sorry you've failed. Felt as if my world had come crashing in he said that normally he would let people away with it but didnt think i was slowing down. I WAS F**KING slowing down he was such a nice bloke but now i hate him. Next test is in a months time i wouldnt mind getting him again as he made me feel relaxed as he chatted to me.

I was fortunate enough to pass first time with 5 minor faults. Part of it is down to the examiner, generally men seem better than women, but a lot comes from technical skill and general confidence. I had a relief examiner who didn't know my local area - he got lost and made up his own test route! That went twice through a 5 mini-roundabout gyratory system, but never mind. Everyone I've spoken to seems to prefer male examiners.

Loppy, without seeing the road you described I can't be sure, but you sound as if you were in the right over the gears. In fact, your examiner would have been marked down in an advanced test for changing up as it would have been deemed unecessary and not making full use of the car's power.

Driving Test

Postby Rossana on Sat May 12, 2007 9:16 am

I have had 10 Driving Tests and failed again yeserday. The examiner put 1 tick in the S box which is a fail! He made me drive down a very narrow lane and there I met a jeep. My insructer always tells me to stop and give way on this lane, I just simply pulled to the left to give the jeep acess to drive past. The examiner failed me because I was to close to a wall on the left hand side, I told him that if I was to drive more to the write I would not have give the jeep any acces to pass still resulting in a fail. I can't win any way, I feel that the examiner's hate me every time I take my test, But I keep going back for more. Every time I take a test they keep failing me for the odd stupid thing and the fail sheet is clean with just the odd tick. I am being ripped off and there is nothing that I can do but book and do it all over again.

I would say just keep going rossana. If you stop now, you'll only need more lessons in the future and so have to spend even more money. Have you thought of going to a test centre in your next town? Maybe you'll get on better knowing that the examiner has never seen your driving before.

That said, not meaning to sound horrible or anything, but maybe you have picked up some bad driving habits or something? Or maybe you werent ready to take the test in the first place and so have a low confidence.

Well, it definitely can be done if the driver knows how to drive!

I say this because I had my second attempt, it started out sunny and nice but then as soon as we left the test centre carpark it started battering down with hailstones! Since it was windy they caused a real distraction and I was sure I had failed when I got back to the test centre after we'd finished. That and the fact that I had a migraine coming on and so my concentration was already low convinced me that I had failed for the second time.

However, throughout the test I had been very amicable with the examiner, he was understanding that the weather had been bad and I ended up passing with only 6 minors!

Dont give up, even if the weather's bad and you're sure you've bombed it - if you chat to the examiner it does a wonder of good, keep calm so that you look like you're under control even if you are losing it a bit.

On my first attempt I wasnt very chatty with the instructor and I know this helped to ease the tension and the test was a lot easier.

some people are not fit to drive and will only be a menace on the road if allowed behind the wheel.

Aw, thanks clare, I was elated to say the least and the examiner was looking at me as if I was making a fuss over nothing!

If I can make it with a migraine and through hailstones than anyone here can - whether its on your 1st or 5th try :D

Hello Nana2008, I am just unlucky when it comes to my driving test, I know that I can drive and my instructor sead that I am not a learner any more. There is a blonde girl from round the corner that passed her test at the same test center, She told me that she hit the curb 2 times but still passed. What has she got that I not! Long blonde hair and a sexy smile. Well Nanna we are both on the same boat and we will not give up. I want to thank you and Dannielle for your support and we will pass it.
