Going to Jail for the first time

I went to court yesterday and was expecting a fine and possibly probation on a posession of an illegal substance charge and a few minor traffic violations. I got pulled over for speeding and a faulty head light and the officer requested to search my car, he found a small amount of pot and I recieved a citation for it but had to apear in court.
The Judge sentenced me to 30 days in Jail but suspended 24 of them.
I have never been in trouble before and I am very nervous about going to Jail.
What should I expect when I surrender, How invasive will the search be? Since I will only be there for 6 days will I be able to wear my own clothes and shoes?
What will I be permitted to do for recreation?
Any advice will be appreciated.

i'm sorry I can't answer any of your questions because i've never been.
Good luck, and hopefully it goes smoothly in there. They will be a long six days but at least there is only 6 of them.

if your area has a pay to stay jail, you might want to consider that, you may have a few more ammenities over a regular jail.

I have been in jail in a couple of countries (just minor stuff though, almost always a situation involving alcohol and fists). First off, which one you in? I am assuming either the US or some sort of Islamic caliphate considering the fact that you are actually getting time over a bit of grass. Draconian. In any event.

It is 6 days mate. If you are in the US I imagine it will be served in some sort of local, county or state institution. You will not be going into max or a SHU unit, so most of the ppl with you will either be remanders or short timers (i.e. generally not terribly violent or anything). Just go in, do your time (and nobody elses), keep your mouth shut and mind your own business. You are only there for 6 days, no need to start making friends or getting pulled into the usual political S*** that abounds. If you must, stand your ground. As I said, kerep your mouth shut and your ears and eyes open. Every institution has its own little "ways", the manner in which stuff is done, the local culture if you will. For example, using certain words, which may seem innocuous to you on the outside, might get you in some trouble.

Don't worry though, 6 days will be over in no time. Good luck!

Just joking. Prolly same stuff, keep yer mouth shut and mind yer business for 6 days. Tell the judge that I will do your time for ya if he is amenable haha, just pissing about. Chin up girl, its 6 days. I mean, a female prison cannot be *that* bad......

I am sure you will be strip searched. No jewelry will be allowed. Show no fear if at all possible. Keep a p0ker face and show no emotion if things appear too loud and loose. Jail is different than prison, so it isn't as bad. I know many people who have been to jail. Each day will feel like a week. You will likely have to supply your own white bras and undies in brand new unopened packages. They will furnish your 'clothes', which could be a 'jumpsuit'. If there are books or magazines to read, I suggest doing a lot of reading. Most recreational areas are the areas where violence can happen. It may be possible for you to ask for a single cell. I wish you luck. But as someone stated, it does depend on where you are - what country, what state if in the US. I wish you well.
