help- cant get pregnant

hi i had the contaceptive implant in my arm for 3 years and was on my period constantly n put on loads of wieght in that time. i had the implant out in october last year and lost loads of weight quickly but i havent had aperiod since. i have spoken to my doctor about this and he says that not having periods makes no different to your fertility but i dont belive him as we have been trying for over a year now, me and my husband are both only 20 years old (19 when we started trying) so i presumed we wouldnt have a problem. if amyone can shed any light on this i would be most greatfull as this is really starting to take its toll on both me and my husband, thanks stacey xx

Hello hon! I completely sympathise!!! Not having a period for a year, is not normal, and I would completely go and see a more competent GP. It can take up to a year for your periods to come back to normal after using contraception, but to not have anything at all is unusual. Some GP's won't refer for fertility investigations until you have been TTC for 2 years, but I still think it may be worth a chat, even if it is to request a simple blood test to check your hormone levels.

I came off the pill in August 2006, had a period 46 days later, then 54 days later, and then nothing for 8 months. I too was batted away by my GP. I returned after another couple of months, and finally reffered up to the fertility docs, who, after many investigations, said that my ovaries were polycystic in appearance. I needed drugs to bring on a period, and then drugs to kick start my ovulations, and three months into treatment, I fell pregnant. We now have a 9 week old son.

This is not the case for everybody, so don't panic. please let me know how you get on! xxx

thank u so much for your reply, you would not belive how much hope that has given me, i was realy starting to think that there was no light at the end of the tunnel, i am definatly gonna suggest this to my gp and hopefully he might feel i have a point thanks again.

I know...you just feel like you're going nuts, and no one can offer you any explanation as to what is happening! And getting pregnant becomes an obsession!!! Am really interested in fertility and have done so much reading and research over the last couple of years...glad to offer any support I can! at last someone understands i feel like im the only one, its drivin me crazy thinkin about this all the time, i even have dreams were im pregnant or have a baby then wake up to discover it was only a dream and im compleatly destroyed (mayby i am crazy). i would appreciate it if i could talk to u in this process as i dont think any of my friends understand as most of them arnt ready to be parents yet or they have a child that was not planned. im glad to hear everything turned out good for you i bet you were absolutly elated when you took that test and it told you that you were pregnant after all that time. thanks again stacey

Ohhhh trust me Stacey!!! You are not alone in feeling like this... ! Why don't you have a little read through of the thread below..."Helloooo...where is everyone?"

We are a bunch of women who have been writing about our trials and tribulations of getting endless BFN's, and TTC for the last couple of years now, and the girls on there have been a fantastic support! Come join us...I have recently looked back through the thread, and it's such a rollercoaster ride of emotions...it does make a good read!!! Especially when someone finally announces that they are pregnant! You may find some more advice or tips that others have wrote...and we'll support you until you get your much wanted BFP!!!

well what can i say, i have read the whole thread and even just as a reader it was a compleat emotional rollercoaster. there were some realy helpfull pieces of advice on there and it as compforted me somewhat to know that there are many others who have been in the same possition as me and even more so that it has on a whole resulted in a happy ending for most. will definatly join in on the thread when i can find something to say without sounding like a compleat loon lol, i also took a little peak at the pics of your little boy, he is such a cutie, congrats. i also found that u were in a similar situation with your sister in law announcing she was pregnant when you were ttc, my sister and my best friend are both due in feb ( happy for them obviously but heartbroken at the same time).

I think its very important to get 2nd or even 3rd opinions from different doctors if you are unsure. Im received some really not such good advice from my doctor, but I didnt know this until I saw another doctor and also did some internet research.
We put allot of trust in doctors , sometimes I think a little to much trust.

my gp was on holiday this week so i went to see another doctor in my clinic, she was much more help.
shes put me on the pill for 3 -6 months to try and sort my periods out, i was a bit gutted about goin on the pill at first but if thats what it takes!

Bit different for me....I'm not trying to get pregnant yet but my periods are completely screwed up. I have seen 3 different doctors and yet they all said the same, theres nothing wrong!

I was on the injection for 2 years, then pill for about a year then the implant for 2 years then microgynon pill for 8 months and now I am on lowestrin pill.

Last time I was about 9 weeks late, I'm now about 6 weeks late, the doctor said my new pill would send my periods completely irractic but still nothing!! I want to get things sorted before it is time for me to start trying for a baby.

well i finished my 3 months of taking the pill and it has been awfull, i compleatly forgot what it was like, the stomach cramps were just horrid. anyway now its over im back to playing the waiting game every month to see if i get that bfp . realy dont want to wait much longer, im definatly ready to be a mummy now so im hoping 2009 is gonna be a lucky year for me, good luck every1 xxx

O Gosh I can totally sypathise with u!! I am on the last 2 days of the waiting game, knowing unlucky me my cycle will be longer then 34 days and I'll be tricking myself that I am preg again!! I am rele trying not to!
