Pam, this may help from Anita, "i own a 1967 morris minor and it has a manual choke which i need to use to get it to start from cold , and when i get it started i have to leave the choke out quite a long time so i can drive it without it spluttering and conking out when i stop , as i'm driving it with the choke out i can see smoke coming out of the exhaust which i've been told is because its running so rich , it also starts chugging as i'm driving it but thats telling me i need to push the choke in a bit and as soon as i do push it in a bit the chugging stops for a while until it warms up a bit more then the chugging starts again , this usually goes on until its warmed up enough and i've pushed the choke fully in and it doesnt conk out when i stop. hope this is usefull , and let me know what year it is and if it has a manual choke...............Anita..xx"

1967 Morris. I try using 1/2 to 3/4 choke cause I was told not to use to much but it is almost impossible to start. Have to pump the gas peddle a lot and when it starts I can't keep it running. Do you know more about using the manual chokes. I just got this car a couple weeks ago.

Hi sweet ruth,

They are really good cars. recently I've been sorting out a 67/68 Morris. Once you get used to its ways it should be fairly reliable. are you on msn or skype?

ok
are you against having msn or skype?
we can sort things a lot quicker in a chat!
Meanwhile, from cold turn ignition on , listen for that ticking of the pump, pump two or three more,
then full choke - avoid pumping!!!!!!!!!
it should start within two or three,
feather the gas pedal as it catcher, dont stomp.
keep the choke out for the first bit of your journey and try to feed it in a bit at a time.
By a mile it should be mostly or all in, apart from the coldest mornings.

Good luck

Anne, follwed your advice exactly and started first time. I did leave the choke out full for longer, the 1st mile or so, cause it was such a relief to not have it jerking and stalling. Then eased it in to 3/4 and it still ran smooth with out stalling. I have a lot of starting and stoping first few miles. At half choke it was absolutely no problem and after after about 3 miles down to a quarter. Why did anyone ever tell me not to use full choke? What a difference thanks to you.

Anne, Let me try your process a few more mornings and works after work too. What a difference when you pull the choke out all the way and keep it out full for a few minutes. I'm loving this little car a lot more since you got involved. I was ready to be done and get another. Will keep you posted.

Hi Anne's other half, yes, since Anne insturcted me on the proper use of the choke I have not a problem. It does seem my car tends to like a lot of choke cause when I tried pushing it in as Anne suggested to 1/2 it started jerking and trying to stall. Leaving the choke out full for a mile or so and then only down to 3/4 keeps it running smooth. thanks for the help.
