Sounds weird to me, shoes are mush better in the wet then bare feet!

Hi Sue, what are those work shoes like?? I'm usually in around 4" heels and the soles of my work shoes are really smooth, not good on greasy pavements!

Hi Louise,

The shoes are probably about 3in black sandals, eith a smoot leather sole. Unfortunately on my way to work i have to walk down a steep hill and like you say when it is wey it can be very difficult, which is why somtimes I take them off and just go barefoot, particularly if i am running late for the bus or something!!

To be honest at this time of year I am usually bare legged so it is not a problem I just give my feet a quick wash when I arrive in the office.

I have only just moved into a new house in the area, but I don't know what Iwill do in the winter when it is very wet or frosty, _ any tips?

Also, what type of walk do you have to do in heels and what problems have you had, in term of slipping, wet or muddy heels etc.

I have only read hrough the posts quickly, but did i read that you sometimes use slippers in work?

Sue.

Hi all.
I see some of you are having problems slipping in smooth soled shoes. Well this happened to me at the weekend. It was lovely weather here and my bf and I went for a stroll. I was wearing some new hh sandals that I know he likes. I'd not worn them outside before so they were just like new. We went for a walk on a path that was on grass It was like very course and not even wet. Even so I could feel my sandals slipping. Then we came to a slope and I slipped even more trying to get up it. It wasn't even a big slope. The smooth soles on my sandals gave no grip at all. My bf thought it was so funny watching me slipping and sliding everywhere trying to walk. He tried to help me but that didn't work and we both ended up in a giggling heap. :D

...so at the end did you manage to get up the slope?
What kind of soles do your sandals have? Leather, rubber or plastic?

Those sandals have smooth soles with no grips at all. They were also brand new so the bottoms were still shiny. That made them slip even more.

We never did get me to the top of the slope. Every time I tried I just skidded. My bf loved it. He thought it was really funny. I was also laughing a lot and that didn't help either. We both ended up in fits of giggles.

Hopefully we will go back there again sometime.

Hey Sexygal,

Pretty much all my heels are like that, totally smooth on the bottoms = loads of slithering and sliding, esp on shopping centre tile floors and places like that as well as outside - especially in the rain and/or when my shoes are really new and the soles are super shiny!

Like you I quite enjoy the slippy slidey sensations sometimes...sounds like you have a B/F who enjoys that too!! Any other similar experiences you'd like to share?

Bare feet in the wet

There is nothing weird about it. You can ruin good shoes in the wet, feet just need a quick wipe and they are as good as new. Take it from someone who goes barefoor year round.

Thanks Barefoot Susan,

I was begining to think it was weird, but sometimes it is just easier to go barefoot and carry the shoes!!

We had a lot of rain around here yesterday and it washed some mud onto the paths that I use walking home from work. Of course I was wearing my heels as I didn't expect any problem in the summer. Ha. I was wearing plain black shoes with about 3" heel. The heels are a bit wider than a stiletto but not really chunky if you know what I mean. The bottoms did have those thin grips, sort of thin ridges in them but they've almost worn smooth now. Well the paths were not deeply muddy, just a thin covering so I didn't think I'd have a problem. Then I started walking on it and my shoes just skidded all over the place. I didn't fall thank goodness or I would have got really messy . The muddy bit only went for a few yards but I slipped and skidded all the way along it. My lovely shoes gave no grip at all.

Anyone else had any problems?

They didn't actually get that muddy. There was a bit arounf the bottoms but the main problem was their lack of grip. I just kept slipping all the time.

Everytime it rains my ballet flats become tractionless, and on the slightest slope they start slipping and skidding all around, with me struggling almost on the same spot!

We live in one of the areas badly affested by floods at the momment. I was slidding all over the place on the muddy footpath on my way to work this morning, and my shoes got very muddy.

I think people are just trying to cope as best they can. I went to he bank this mornimng and the girl on the customer services counter who is normaaly very smartly dressed in a suit and heels was wearing a seatshirt, jeans and pink and white socks!! We were chatting nd she said that her train was'nt running because of he weather, so she had walked in nearly 2 miles wearing wellies because of the floods which she had taken off inbside the bank. She said she wanted to travlel as lightly as possible so rather than btringing shoes to change into had decided just to work in her socks!!
