47,625 divided by 63,500 is .75

Using your numbers.... 75% of the infected are gay men!

HIV men 'having unsafe gay sex'

Safe sex can prevent HIV transmission
More than one in three gay men with HIV have unprotected sex, a survey says.
The University College London poll of 2,640 men in Manchester, Brighton and London also revealed a fifth of gay men without HIV do the same.

Researchers said it was worrying, and called for a renewed push to discourage risky behaviour, the Sexually Transmitted Infections journal said.

But experts said evidence suggested many men with HIV were having unprotected sex with others with HIV.

The latest research was carried out between 2003 and 2004 in gay clubs, bars and saunas.

Many of these men with HIV will be having sex with other men with HIV

Michael Carter, of Aidsmap

The rate of HIV infection was highest in Brighton, at almost 14%, and lowest in Manchester, at 8.6%

Across the entire sample, one in three men who was HIV positive did not know they had the infection - a figure which tallies with previous research.

This was despite the fact that over two-thirds of these men said they had been to a sexual health clinic within the past year.

Some 18% of HIV negative men and 37% of HIV positive men said they had had unprotected sex with more than one partner in the past year.

Over the same time period, one in five HIV negative men and four out of 10 HIV positive men said that they had had a sexually-transmitted infection.

'Risky behaviour'

Lead researcher Dr Danielle Mercey said: "We have to renew our efforts to ensure people with HIV get early diagnosis and also look to curb risky behaviour.

"This is particularly important for younger men who are more likely to demonstrate risky behaviour in much the same way as they are more likely to drive fast or take drugs.

"It is only by early diagnosis and safe sex that we will reduce the rate of HIV."

About a third of new HIV diagnoses are gay men, with over 7,450 new cases being identified in 2005 - slightly up on the previous year.

But other experts questioned how risky the behaviour was.

Michael Carter, of the Aidsmap support group, said: "The results of the survey are entirely realistic, but before we condemn the figures we have to see it in context.

"Many of these men with HIV will be having sex with other men with HIV."

But he admitted this could have other health risks such as sexually transmitted infections and the small risk of a "super infection" - re-infection with a different strain of HIV.

Will Nutland, head of health promotion at the Terrence Higgins Trust agreed that many of the men with HIV were having sex with other people with the same status.

He added: "The new research also backs up other evidence which demonstrates the need for ongoing, targeted HIV prevention work with gay and bisexual men in the UK.

"The number of gay men with undiagnosed HIV infection is not reducing."

Yes. In the USA, the UK, a number of other European countries, and other parts of the world such as Latin America, HIV and AIDS have affected young gay men more than any other group of people. In the UK and USA especially, the percentage of young gay men who have been infected with HIV and the percentage with AIDS are much higher than those among other groups such as heterosexual people or children.

In the USA, it is estimated that nearly 300,000 men were living with AIDS at the end of 2002, and another 420,000 had died. Almost 60% of men diagnosed with HIV/AIDS in the USA were probably exposed to the virus through male-to-male sexual contact.1

In the UK, by the end of September 2004, more than 32,000 diagnoses of HIV had been in men who had probably become infected through sex with another man. Overall about 25% of all UK HIV diagnoses have been in young men under 29 years old. In 2003, there were 465 new diagnoses of HIV in men who were both under 29 and had had sex with men, comprising about 7% of the total number of new diagnoses.2

Despite the continuing impact of HIV & AIDS there are signs that awareness is waning among young people. For example, recent research with British teenagers has shown decreasing awareness of HIV & AIDS.3 The same pattern of increasing prevalence and decreasing awareness exists for STIs as a whole and many young people, including young gay men, may underestimate how likely they are to be exposed to sexually transmitted infections (STIs) including HIV. There is also evidence that in some places, even where they are otherwise well-informed about HIV and STIs, young people do not believe that they are vulnerable to contracting them.4

In the UK the numbers of young people with chlamydia, gonorrhoea and genital herpes has risen by more than 100% in the 1990s (PHLS, 2000).

When you read those reports and see the term MSM... That's so as not to use the word GAY!

That my friends is what the gay agenda wants to use to make a deviant sexual preference seem less deviant!

To some here, that may seem harmless.
But people will die from HIV and other diseases because of politically correct terminology!

The population of the UK is 60,609,153,

Of which 6,060,915 are gay. (10%)

and the number of people with HIV/AIDS in the UK is 63,500,

Of which 47,625 are gay.

THAT THEREFORE MEANS:

6,013,290 gay people are UNINFECTED! OVER 6 MILLION!

So, 0.7% of gay people in the UK are infected,

99.3% of gay people are uninfected.

So, your argument is based upon PREJUDICE and NOT facts.

Aye, obviously some people arent too good with statistics :-/

No. I seem to have had the topics hijacked whilst mucking about minding my rather screwed up computer.

I have to agree with whomever "he" is that 75% odds against me is the kind of wager I'd avoid. Politically correct or not, advanced testing or not. I know the western blot is just a test and not gospel.

Leaving now. I'll call in a few.

But they are all based on the selfish desire of the individual.

None of them put WHAT"S BEST FOR A CHILD FIRST!

So, until you can show that teaching children that a parent can be disposable is a good thing under good situations (not death n divorce n abuse, etc..) you will not win your arguement!

What's best for a child and society as a whole will always trump liberal thinking!

I'm a liberal-conservative actually. I'm a youth member of the UK Conservative Party, which is headed by the liberal-conservative David Cameron.

Situation: Child in care/orphanage.

Options: a) Stay in care/orphanage.
b) Adoption by a gay couple.

Whats best for the child: The answer is b)

Simple really.

David Davis wouldn't agree.

David Cameron - liberal - are you sure. A toff through and through.

David 'no policies' Cameron is not tolerant. He just knows how to talk.

He is not tolerant of the poor or disadvantaged - he says they have made 'choices'.

He is not tolerant of higher taxes for higher earners, believing the line that the well off - giving something back, to help the less well off - is finished.

David Cameron is a fraud, who wants to look after his own. He has NO policies as he is afraid he will upset people. Keep the public ignorant, slate the government and you are on to a winner.
