implanon side effects

Postby guest82 on Thu Jun 01, 2006 11:10 am

Hello there,

I had my implanon implant fitted in November last year. Since then I have been bleeding pretty much constantly. After repeated trips to the doctor I was put on another pill in an attempt to stop the bleeding. However about two weeks ago I started to feel ill with vomiting, lightheadedness and an all round unwell, anxious and irritable feeling. After initially diagnosing this as a gastric bug a fourth visit to the doctors has finally resulted in a blood test and I have been advised to stop taking the pill on top of the implant. I was just wondering if anyone else has had symptoms similar to this. I am off work and feel totally unlike myself and I'm not even sure if it can be attributed to the implant or not. I'm very confused and worried, if anyone could shed any light on the situation I'd be really grateful. Thank you.

I had implanon removed less than a week ago and have been bleeding heavily since. I had an awful time on it, constantly bleeding, tired etc. now taking vitamins to help with tiredness.

Implanon removal

Postby Lyn.D06 on Wed Jun 07, 2006 1:31 am

Hi there. I had Implanon inserted on 20th April due to wanting lighter, pain free periods as mine have always been heavy and irrregular. Also I thought the over-eating in the March a couple days before my natural period started was going to continue, this bothered me as I'm on a special diet since 3 wks before implant and was hoping artificial hormones would stop this.

Instead I have been feeling hungry almost constantly for the past 2 weeks although the past 48 hours have been better especially today. Was on 2nd day of period when got implant in and continued to bleed lightly for another 5 or 6 days and nothing since. Felt very down for hours last Thurs and also Mon but Monday I was down for just a few mins, more paranoid really. Also developed thrush which i was wondering was Implanon maybe to blame for this too? All this only in last 2 wks. Feeling in a bad mood, hunger, and thrush.

If I'm gonna gain weight or still feel hungry all time I will get it removed sooner. My check up is 13 July and I've been in 2 minds whether to go sooner but have decided to ride it out and that way she can't accuse me of not giving enough time!

Am hoping things will settle down now and it's a good idea not to have to remember to take a pill every day!

[b]I am dieting at the moment (Lighterlife, best thing I ever done!) and was amazed to have lost 5lbs this week despite having extra food packs. Only trouble is we only get enough food packs to last us 7 days and me having extra is leaving me short so I will just have to try harder to stick to the 4 a day we're allowed and no more. Never had a problem with hunger on this diet until I had Implanon put in about 2 weeks after starting and the "hunger" has only begun in the last 3 weeks. So am wondering if it's maybe psychological?

My friend had one put in (under pressure) when she had a termination and now the doctor has refused to take it out until she can show evidence of taking another contraceptive (but not condoms).

She has put on loads of weight and it makes her feel nauseous but the Doctor has refused to treat her full stop now.

Well I got my Implanon removed last Thursday. The doctor wasn't too happy about it but she knew I wasn't going to be swayed! It took about ten mins then they put steri-strips on, bandaged me up and sent me on my way.

I am starting to think now that rather than hormones stopping this hunger they're making it worse. Before Implanon I only felt hungry for a day or 2 before my period and now I feel hungry all the time! She gave me Cerazette which I started on Thurs but I've decided to stop taking it and give myself the best chance of continuing weightloss on my diet. It'll be back to the Mefenamic Acid for me

It's amazing how a tiny pill can give us all these side effects etc.

i had my implanon inserted in september last year..
i went through hell, very much like some people on here did..
i bled for 3 weeks straight then stop for one week then start again.. it never ended!! i rarely had period pain (thankfully) but i ended up becoming severly anemic. I then got it taken out on 17th of june. 3 days after it was taken out, i had light spotting that went for 5 days - the 3rd day was the worst and it wasn't even heavy. But i was informed that i could fall pregnant straight away after it was taken out. So me and my fiance have been trying to fall pregnant, but now... calculating when my "supposed" period is due, i have no idea when my best chances of falling preg are and when my period is supposed to be due.. also i lost about 10kgs when i had the implanon taken out - before i was 55kgs now i am 45. So i dont know really why i am not getting a period and i am starting to get sick of spending so much money on preg tests because i am 7 days late for my "supposed" period!! ahhrgg.. i am regretting now being on the implanon it wasn't right for me at all!! anyone else here had the same issues??? or any advice to give?? thankyou!!

Implanon

Vickih - your friend should change doctors...it is not your doctor's job to impose morality, ony look out for her health and if she is suffering because of it, get it out, particularly if she can tolerate oestrogen!

Guest - I'd always had erratic to non existent periods particularly after taking the mini pill (I can't have oestrogen) and I wasn't bleeding when I had mine fitted ( though i did have a pregnancy test to make sure I wasn't pregnant) and I've had no periods for three years! Though they say the periods should settle down in a year so if they havent go see the doctor

Tbh I agree with Whitby and I LOVE Implanon, no periods, I did put some weight on in the beginning but that was due to a happy relationship not the rod and I've lost it all and more now and if anything my skin is better. Only pain is trying to get someone to replace it....it's towards the end and periods are returning and skin is worsening but its nigh on IMPOSSIBLE to get it replaced as no one seems to offer it!

I'd definitely reccomend giving it a try, if you hate it, it's removable!

Bec- even though I've read your fertility is supposed to return after 6 days that isn't always the case. Seemingly it can take months for whatever reason.

I had my implant out on the 4th April, I am now 9 weeks pregnant, so it didnt take me that long, but it probably depends on the person.
