I am currently on my second inplant, after having the first for the full 3 years then getting the second one put in october last year. I had no problems with the first one at all, however it seems to be the complete opposite with the second. Mood swings and weight gain, crying at the drop of a hat. Is there anyone that has had a similar experience? Is it possible for the implant to give you different side effects each time you put another in is what I'm asking I guess. I remember my doctor saying it should affect me the same but it might not, but I didn't think the change would be quite -this- drastic.

I just recently had my first implant taken out after the full 3 years and now i have a new one one in and since getting the new one in (over 2 weeks ago) i have constantly had my periods. This was not the case with my first implant as i never got them, but now my god what a pain it is (my B/F thinks so to  ). How many other people have had the same problem and if so what have you done about it?

Implant removal

Postby Implant User on Mon Aug 07, 2006 3:36 pm

Hi
I have had my implant since January this year and it is fine apart from Weight gain. I have been the same weight since I was 16 ( i am 26 now) and since i have put it in I have gained 2 KG( about 4pounds). I am taking it out in 2 weeks time and back on the pill again. Has anybody used Yasmin Pill? Please let me know as I like to try it soon. Thanks

My Implanon experience...

Postby Ania on Tue Aug 08, 2006 4:30 pm

I wanted to share my experiences with Implanon - I had it in for 1 and a half years. The first months were fine, mild periods every six to eight weeks. I gained a few pounds but lost them agian after a month.

After about 1 year I started getting the most unbearable cramps (with no bleeding). They were so bad that they would wake me in the middle of the night sobbing, and painkillers didn't help. They would last about 10 minutes and then disappear completely for 24 hours. The only thing that helped was a hot water bottle!

I discovered I would get these cramps up to twice a day for about 5 days, 10 days before my period actually started (which was every 3 months). With each period the pain was getting worse and worse (I was afraid to leave the house once the cramps cycle started in case I was stuck somewhere without a hot water bottle and somewhere to curl up in a ball)

I finally got the implant out when I couldn't get over a flu (my GP thinks my body was reacting so badly to it that it was depressing my immune system!). Getting it removed was really nasty, it took over 40 minutes and there was a lot of blood - my body had formed a some sort of cocoon around the implant which the doctor had a really hard time getting the implanon out of. He said that meant that my body was treating it a foreign object and was trying to protect me from it... i am definitely never again getting another implant!

My whole reason for going on Implanon was a recurring yeast infection - my GP thought the Pill (Yasmin) was a factor (although it turned out it wasn't!). I never had any problems with Yasmin, I've actually been told it's one of the best birth control pills on the market.

Anyway, since getting the implant out in March i've been waiting for my hormones to settle before starting any other form of birth control.. my period cycle is now 6 weeks and the cramps faded over my first 2 periods after getting Implanon out - and are now a distant memory, thankfully!

Sorry for such a long post! Hope my story helps someone =)

Implanon

Hi all,

I've had the second one put in a year ago and I'm still happy with this contraceptive! I don't have any of the mood swings I had when i was on the pill, I don't have periods anymore and my weight actually went down a little bit ( it went up when I started taking the pill)
For me there was no difference between the first time I had it put in and the second time.

I've had exactly the same experience as you. My first 3 years on Implanon were fantastic. No weight gain, no mood swings, and hardly no periods. I've had my second one in now for over a year and have gained 12 kg, am depressed, have mood swings, acne, periods every 2 - 3 weeks with some of them lasting 3 weeks and a decreasing libido. So I am getting it taken out as soon as possible !!! My doctor said it is quite possible for different side effects to occur the second time, but she's not sure why.

Well i have now decided after weight gain mood swings depression and lots more that i am coming of the implant and going to see if my periods go back to normal and if i change and can loose any weight as i havnt been able to do so while being on the implant and fed up of having my periods for weeks then stopping a few days and them coming back. why cant contraceptiom be so much easier and simple without all these side effects.

Hi,
I had Implanon fitted for 18 months and have lost 5 Stone in weight during that time by following 'Slimming World' eating plan.
I honestly don't believe the Implanon causes weight gain or prevents you from losing weight - Its simply a case of eating more calories than you burn off!.
I think some people find it easier to blame Implanon than accept that it's their eating/lifestyle habits that are the real problem.

implanon - bleeding

Postby niner on Tue Aug 29, 2006 2:09 pm

hi, just looking for some feedback with regard to implanon and bleeding?

I got implanon last january (after having 2 years of depo injections which was fine, except that you're only meant to stay on it 2 years!). it's been fine up till now except that i've been bleeding since mid july!!!! not period type bleeding at all just enough that i can't use a tampon and have to use all days pads!

can't say i've had any other trouble than this. i'm not sure that i can agree on the depression that i've heard many people talking about with implanon - can't be sure it's to do with implanon or anything else.

woudl be grateful for feedback on irregular bleedin (or at least, regular for almost weeks now!)
