Ive had a fantastic time with the implant!! I have had the implant about 1yr n find it much easier than taking a pill every morning!

I must admit the first 6 months of irregular and heavy periods was quite annoying however i am now period free and havnt gained an oz, infact ive lost weight!

I havnt suffered from any side effects as stated in the forum.

Thumbs up :D

Heya, I'm 17 now and i have had my implant for a year now but ive had it removed today!! whayy!! finally am so happy..

I've been on my period for a whole year just being on and off every day or so and recently i have been diagnosed as being anemic so i had it took out. My sex life has been the worst ever since I had it put in and i had been suffering from bad mood swings towards my bf and family and i have also gained a stone in weight over the year..

I've tried exercising and dieting but nothing has worked :( so i'm now hoping that with it being taken out my weight will go back down to normal as well as my sex life!!

Wish me luck lol

hi I had my implant in for 5 years (it was only supposed to be in for 3 years) i've now had it . I had no major problems while it was in except very irregular periods. I had assumed that after 3 years the implant would have just stopped working . My hubby and I have been trying for a baby for a year with no joy . I went to see the dr and he said my implant would still be working even though it was 2 years out of date !!!
I found this hard to believe . Does any1 else know if this is right or not ?
Anyway hubby and I are still trying and hopefully we may have done it this time I am feeling very strange at the mo xxx

Implanon

I have just had my implant replaced after 3 years. I got caught with my second baby whilst taking the Pill and antibiotics whilst suffering from postnantal depression so I needed something I didn't have to think about to ensure this didn't happen again.
I seemed to be lucky in that I had very light periods quite rarely and nothing for 6 months after I first had it put in. I have gained a little weight but can't really put this down to the implant- I know if I follow a strict diet I can and WILL lose it.
I found lumps in my breast about 12 months after having the implant but my doctor reassured me that this was just a side effect of the implant- not the best one I have to admit!!!!
After reading the messages on this site I think I have gotten off lightly as far as side effects go but I would advise anyone to look into the full range of options before going for the implant. My Family Planning Clinic gave full counselling last time and a shortened version this time. Take al the advice you can get but ultimately make it YOUR decision.

No it stops working after 3 years and you are supposed to have it removed so your doctor should have told you that.

Hi, I was heavily overweight (20stone 7lbs) when I had the implant put in June 2005, just after my last baby Polly born, I get pregnant very quickly and having two babies within 15months of eachother, emily born 1/21/04, Polly 26/04/05, seemed sensible to try it, Ive had heavy periods, lasting 3 weeks, long break inbetween, then heavy period again, joined the gym last October, exercising 5 times a week, watching what i eat, have experienced no weightloss at all, had the implant taken out two days ago. I feel better and dont feel hungry all the time, my appitite has decreased, i also noticed when having the implant that I had a few dark coarse hairs sprout on my chin? anyone esle notice this? At the family planning clinic, they neither seemed suprised or agreed that my symptoms were cause by the implant, I also lost my sex drive, Im hoping to see an improvement in my weight, and moods. when i had implant removed it had actually broken in two? The said they had never seen that before, two incisions, 45 minutes later they managed to remove it?
Just wonder if anyone else experienced any of the symptons Ive experienced?

Now i know where those flippin hairs have come from! i did wonder!
had my implant about 9 months and have gained a stone but no periods (yay!) other than that super!

Oh my god its finally out! After suffering 3 long years of the implant its finally out! all be it i have a dead arm at the moment i could not be happier! I got it out 3 days ago and aleady i have noticed the difference!
Im not in such a bad mood for not reason, im not hungry all the time and i feel i have more energy! It took about ten mins to remove not sore just a bit weird!

My advise to everyone is to stay off the implant its more trouble than its worse i think having a baby would of been easier!

Hi all

I had my implant removed on Thursday (22nd), period started yesterday. Can't have it all I suppose...

On a positive note, I've already lost 3lb in weight (how???)

I have to say, for the first 12 months my only problems were weight gain, mood swings, crying, anxiety and ever growing boobs, waist and hips. At least I didn't have any periods! For the last 6 months I've had a regular period every 4 weeks, lasting 10-14 days - so I decided it wasn't worth having the implant anymore.

Having it removed wasn't painful (until later). I also discovered that I'm allergic to steri-strips - the blisters hurt much more than the procedure!

For anyone with more willpower than me regarding chocolate (most people  ) the implant is probably one of the better options.

implanon and weight gain

Postby rebekah on Tue May 27, 2008 12:17 pm

Hi,
i had my implanon inserted 3 years ago. I was told by my doctor that if i got irregular periods (which i did), to come back and she will give me some estrogen. The estrogen stopped my periods completely which before that basically were constant.

For the first year, i had no weight gain. although I was at the gym almost every day. Year 2 and 3 i have managed to gain 20kg's which has been very traumatic. I have not been going to the gym as i am travelling but i also eat no sugar, dairy, wheat or meat - essentially VERY healthy. I have come to the conclusion that this is the implanon as any exercise i do does not make a difference.

I am due to have the implanon taken out tomorrow and i hope that my weight get's back to normal pretty soon.

Whilst i LOVED having no periods for almost 3 years at the end of the day, putting on weight has made me decide not to ever have it put in again.

Well as per my comment above its been over a week since i had my implant out and no period as yet but i fear im away to loose my mind! I was at the home doing the dishes and it suddenly donned on me that i have no friends im fat not that goodlooking and spend most of my time with my live in boyfriend, i cant remember the last time i wanted to have sex and the more i push him away the worse my thoughts are! I cant help but wonder if this period of depression has come from my implant being removed and my hormones coming back? Im so confused right now i love my boyfriend and i want to spend the rest of my life with him so whats wrong with me? do i need to give myself a shake and pull myself together or what? any advise would be greatly appriciated!

hi
this is my first post but I am so glad i stumbled on this website
I had my implant in about 2.5 years ago after the birth of my daughter. Everything was fine to start with with light infrequent periods and no weight gain. However in the last 4-6 months everything has changed.. I cry at the slightest thing, have constant headaches, cant concentrate on anything, feel generally unwell and to top it all I now have heavy periods which seem to last for a week then start again about a week later. I have contacted FP clinic to have it taken out and they messed up my appointment so I have to go back. I have also been messed about by my doctors who will not take it out until I have had an appointment with a nurse. I feel like I am going round the twist and I dont know how much more I can take. hopefully I will get it removed this week (if the doctor sees fit!) I cant take the pill as I get migraines, Depo injections dont seem to suit me either so I guess its back to condoms. Honestly if I thought i could then i would take it out myself - just to start feeling better.
Would i reccomend Implanon - well if you want to have a sex life or infact any kind of quality of life then probably not. however i know other women who have had it and find it fantastic so its pot luck really.

Thanks for reading NJJ

Samwidge wrote:I had my implant put in in november last year - and have had nothing but problems with it. Against my better judgement, going along with my doctors advice, i have kept it in for the full 6 months required for it to settle down. And it hasnt. It has become worse and worse.
Things that have changed for me are...
i have bad skin - on my whole body- i never had that before, even though both my sisters have had when they were teenagers (i am 29)
weight gain of nearly two stones, i am exersising more now than ever before.
Mood swings - up and down - i joined weightwatchers last night - and felt like crying the whole way through
I am either freezing or roasting, all the time and if i am cold i cant get warm - this may be due to the 6 week long periods.

The only good thing is that i dont have the painful periods that i had before - but i have now started having pains all the time as i am bleeding all the time.

Also i have headaches and am persiatantly tried, again not like my normal self.

So I am going to my family planning clinic tomorrow to talk about having it removed.

as you can tell, i am unimpressed. :)

I could have written most of that that myself.

I am having my implant removed on Thursday after 18 months of erratic periods (I have a weekly cycle, complete with PMT. Imagine how my poor husband feels having me in a foul temper for 2 days a week! ). I have the most dreadful mood swings, bad cramps, weight gain, spots (which I've never had before), constant tiredness. I'm in the two days of PMT at the moment, and if I feel like I could cut the bloodu thing out of my arm myself. As it is, I'm a great big wimp so I'll leave it to the doctor and the loacal anaesthetic!

I've also been advised to try the hormonal coil (it's the only think I've not tried) but I'm just going to see how I get on without it and try to let my body get back to normal first.

implanon grief

Postby louchicky26 on Tue Jun 03, 2008 12:06 pm

Hi everyone, oh im so glad i found this site. i can totally relate to practically all of the posts i have read here...

i am 26 years old now and had my first implant in at 18 years, im now on implant number three (the 3 year one) and I have never become pregnant. I was hoping someone could advise me or share your experiences because even though my periods have never been 'normal' since 18 years old, i have - over the past year- began experiencing the most awful side effects...that I have not had ever before. I have had a swollen tummy for the past 4-5 months, larger and sore breasts, loss of libido, tummy pains and mood swings. I have had periods lasting 3-4 weeks (light-heavy) and I feel generally depressed. I have had eating disorders since 12 years old and obviously, the 1 stone increase in weight upsets me (to say the least- i cry myself to sleep every night) and as does the bloated feeling. Does anyone think that because im in the 8th year of an implant that, for some reason, its all of a sudden sending me and my body wacky?! I dont know whether to have it taken out or not...:( please help xxx
