implanon-thank god its gone!

Postby shellyb » Tue Jun 03, 2008 12:30 pm

i had the implanon in two years ago and i thought it was going to be great! i asked the nurse before it was put in about putting weight on and she said that you definately dont! all she spoke about was people with a history of depression should not have it as it can aggravate the depression.
the first few months were great- no period at all.
then after about 6/7 months they started, only light then virtually continous. i felt pregnant all the time, the hugest boobs ever but also nausea. i have put at least a stone on, was really not interested in sex, was grumpy, shouting and going nuts about nothing at all.
in the end it got to the point where i was desperate for it removing i was fed up of the agonizing cramps about every ten days, i felt and looked pregnant. my hair was still falling out even though my youngest is 3 and a half!
my gp told me to start the pill before i had it took out, which i did, and i had a normal period 4 days after the end of the pack.
when he took it out he said he had never been a fan of it anyway and nodded in agreement to all my symptoms.
I was really excited about having it put in, it seemed a great long term contraception. having read all these stories on here, im so glad i had it removed and the symptoms were not all in my head. within a couple of days i noticed i wasnt stressed and moody like before it really was a massive difference, already i have lost a bit of the weight and the painfull swelling in my boobs has gone!
i cannot recommend this for anyone to be honest- you may not get pregnant but thats the only thing its got going for it!!!!

do not get one

Hello i got my implant out 4 weeks ago and i can already feel the difference. i was so moody with it in, constantly shouting at my boyfriend and friends and family. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND IMPLANON, honestly!!! mood swings everyday, not wanting to have sex, irregular periods, weight gain... its really not worth it. since gettin my implant out i have lost 3lb's, been soooo happy with my boyfriend and friends (like i was before i turned in to a crazy lunatic)

Anyways im just wondering... i thought that when i got my implant taken out, my periods would start being irregular (like they were the 1st year i had implanon) BUT ive had nothing since. my last period was a week before i had my implant took out (which is 5 weeks)!!! could this just be my body getting back to its normal ways or could i be pregant???

Implanon

Postby Bombshel » Wed Jun 04, 2008 6:04 pm

I really wish I had found this forum before I had my Implanon inserted. I had researched the implanon on the FPA website before I had it done, and my partner had heard about the mood swings from his friends whose partners had the implant but apart from that it seemed the best and most reliable option. I have been on the Implant 2 and a half weeks now and I don't know how much more I can take.

On the day I had the implant it wasn't too painful - which I was suprised at I had expected the insertion to be much more traumatic. I was on my period when I had the implant but almost instantly my period stopped.

By day 3 my arm was throbbing the implant was irritating and I had turned into a mood swing monster. I got some evening primrose capsuls and that seemed to have a good effect.

Week 2 - A period started - the heaviest period of my life - very similar to when I first had my little boy - can't wear tampons as the flow is too bad and I am waking up in the night as the bleeding is too heavy and I feel damp. I have leg cramps in my right leg that last all everning every evening. Stomach cramps from the period. Light headedness from the large blood loss as well as headaches. Loss of apetite but still can already feel weight gain and I am terribly bloated, I have little energy. And I have been crying constantly, my moods are terrible and everyone is irritating me.

I rang my doctor to get her advise and she advised this is normal in some woman! Which makes me wonder why I was not told this before!! I have been told if I am still bleeding next week then she will give me some tablets - but right now I just want it out! I hate the way it feels in my arm and I hate the way it makes me feel.

Am hoping things improve quickly or I am considering going to a private clinic for removal.

I had my implant put in 4 months ago now and they obviously warned me abot weight loss/gain, irregular periods mood swings etc... but I never thought it would be like this. I have friends who have the implant and they haven't had periods for 2 years??

I had a month where I had absolubtley nothing and as far as I know I didn't gain any weight, however after a month I started my period around the normal date and then it went again, then came back and so on... basicly everyday for the past 3 months I've been on-NIGHTMARE

HELP!!! I searching on line for some guidence about getting the imlplant removed.... ive had it in 2 years, and was really lookin for pics to show what happens when i come cross this little gem of a conversation.... I never realised, or was informed by my GP about how many woman suffered like this. I also have constant stomach bloating, 1 week off, 2 weeks on periods, dizzy spells, lost sex drive and mood swings amongst other things. My doctors have put me on 3, three month courses of the pill to stop the bleeding which didnt work and had blood test which were clear. but a big problem is my fertility.... i had the injection after my son was born, then the implant 3 months later so never got my 'normal' cycle back. So want to know from woman who have suffered these problems if they got normal periods, and how long afterwards? And also, does it hurt and leave much of a scar when the blasted thing is taken away!!!
Thanks girls

i had my implant in two days after my 17th birthday in 2004, they told me i had to be on my period, but i wanted it as soon as i herd about it, so we booked a date when i estimated when i would start my period.

The day that i went to have it i wasnt on my period so i lied and said i was anyway! Since then i have a period every 3 weeks, and it lasts for 3 weeks, and there VERY heavy! Does any one know if thats because i wasnt on my period when i had my implant??

It doesnt realy bother me as much as it does my fiance!

NOOOO that wont have anything to do with it..
it effects women in different ways.. some have their periods pretty much none stop..some are very irregular and some (like myslf) just stop completely..
i have been told if u are irregular u can also go on the pill to help make them better..

hi all,

just wanted to say that i am on my second implanon so have had it constantly for 5 years now!

my periods were very irregular before hand so nothing changes there! i can go months and months without anything then when i do have a period they usually last around 3 weeks then go months without again, my periods have always been like that so it doesnt bother me.

with regards to weight gain, yes i have gained weight since i had it put in but i dont think i can completely blame the implanon, bad diet, no exercise etc!!

im hoping of having this took out later this year to maybe start a family, can anybody tell me how long it has taken you to get pregnant after having the implanon removed?

Thanks,

Jo

Periods! Hate them!

Postby StaceyS » Tue Jun 10, 2008 10:10 am

I've had the implant nearly 3 years now. It's due to be taken out in January, but this last 6 months, I've noticed a lot of problems with my periods.
Before having the implant, I was on the injection, I had 3 but came off that because it turned me into a mad woman! I wasn't very nice to be around dire mood swings etc.
So I went back to the clinic and she suggested the implant. WHilst on the injection and the first maybe year and a half of being on the implant I had no periods what so ever! Bliss! But...they came back. At first they weren't too bad, but they are now really irregular and heavy. Last month I had 3 in the month each lasting for about 3 days...I have just come on again really heavy (cramps and throwing up as well) and it's is really getting to me now. There isn't any pattern they just come and go as they want.
Also I've put on a lot of weight over the last few years...
I'm thinking of getting the bloody thing removed but need to replace it with something else...
Any advice would be appreciated
Thanks
:? :)

i had my implant taken out two weeks ago even though i only had it in for 9months due to non stop periods etc. however the real problems only started when i tried to get it taken out. my doctors were fine about taking it out it was just that no one could get it out! i went to my doctors he would not attempted it due to not bieng able to feel it, was referred to the hospital for a scan, went there and they marked it on my arm, had an appointment the next day and the doctor cut where the markings were yet still could not get it out, which resulted in 3 stiches. was referred to a specalist at the hospital who booked me into his day surgery, which resulted in me bieng at the hospital for 8 hours, had to wear a gown and go into a proper surgey theatre and ended up with 7 stiches! i have no idea why and probably one hell of a scar!

Trouble getting implant reoved

My friend had one put in (under pressure) when she had a termination and now the doctor has refused to take it out until she can show evidence of taking another contraceptive (but not condoms).

She has put on loads of weight and it makes her feel nauseous but the Doctor has refused to treat her full stop now.

Hi, i also had the implant fitted under presure from my doctor after i suffered an ectopic pregnancy at 18. i found it made me put on weight, suffered some acne and mood swings. I also had trouble trying to get it removed by a doctor. What your friends doctor is doing is out of order and im sure not alowd. Its ur friends body and she shoud point this out. My advice would be go o a family planning clinic instead, they do ask question but i had no proble having ine removed. I enquired about it and had it done the same day. It does hurt thou :(
