Hi, sorry to say but yeah it does hurt!! I had mine taken out over 3 weeks ago. 1st they use a numbing injection like when u have it inserted then they cut your arm open, its only a small insision but i could reali feel it! they then pull it out which you can also feel. My doctor then gave me paper stitches and i was bleeding quite alot. The brusing came up almost strait away and my arm was very sore for about a week, the brusing is still not completely gone and it does leave a small scar.

implanon removal

Postby piefacerecords on Wed Jun 11, 2008 5:29 pm

i had my implant removed a week ago after using it for 10 months. in that time i gained nearly 2 stone, loads of spots, mood swings and lost my sex drive altogether! 5 days after removal and I'm already beginning to feel like myself again. I think it'll take a month or so and then should be back to normal (apart from the weight...)

But I must disagree with the person who said it hurts to have it removed. The only thing you should feel in the entire procedure is the anaesthetic injection - and if that's done well then even that isn't as bad as you expect. I suggest going to a family planning clinic rather than GP surgery as they are much more experienced. I actually work in an FP clinic and there's a lot of talk going around about GPs doing fittings and removals with no formal training - don't risk it!!

As long as they give the numbing injection time to work, you won't feel anything after that. It takes around 10 minutes to fully numb your arm, through which time the practictioner should test every now and then how much feeling you have by making a small pin-prick. When you no longer feel it, that's when the removal takes place. After that, it takes about 3 minutes including sterestrips and bandaging.

So don't worry! If implanon is giving you grief, it is far better to have it removed (and this is coming from someone who was SO nervous before removal that I sweated about 10 litres!!)

Hi, I am due at the doctors in an hour and a half to have my implanon out, I've lasted the full 3yrs with it in, but only as I was too much of a wimp to have it out!!
My partner & I are hoping to try for a baby, our boy is now 3 and a half. Does anyone know how long after having it removed it takes to be totally out of my system? ( I'm asking on here as I'll be panicking to much to ask the doctor later)!!
I luckily didn't suffer from any weight gain, I still weigh the same as when it went in! though I did have a few mood issues and suffer pretty badly from anaemia - lots of injections for me, though I don't know if these were related to the implant or just my body being random.
All in all it's not been a bad 3yrs, it's done me well, I've had some heavy painful periods, yet I didn't have the best cycle prior to having my son anyway.
If you hate needles nd are useless with pills then the implant is the way to go!!

I know I posted on here a few days ago saying I wanted it out and don't like it but I've had about 2 1/2 years of it.
At first it was brilliant and for the first maybe 1 1/2 years had no problems it was bliss.
It affects everybody differently.
A set of twins could have it put in...it could be hell for one and brilliant for the other.
Give it a go and see how it is for you.

Implanon

Postby Terri86 on Fri Jun 13, 2008 12:46 pm

Well I have just had my second Implanon fitted last Tuesday 10/06/08 (and still have the sore arm! )

I used to be on the pill from when I was 15 then fell pregnant when i was 16 then I decided to have a termination. Then 2 years later even though I took the pill religiously due to my last experience I still managed to fall pregnant again!! As I felt me and my boyfreind was still too young for kids I decided to have a termination again which unfortunatly had complications. After discussing with the doctor he advised I took the Implanon due to the fact that the pill clearly did not work for me!

I too have put on weight with the Implanon but then that may also be down to the fact I like crisps and hate gyms!! However lets not forget about the horrible periods that come with the Implanon, I never seem to know whether I'm coming or going with them. Sometimes they can last for about 5 weeks then I can go without a period for a few months or I can have a period for a day!!!

At the end of the day I feel that I would much rather go through that than to fall pregnant before me and my boyfriend were ready so for the time being I'm happy to continue with the Implanon untill I decide to start a family but as I'm only 21 I'd like to think it won't be for a while just yet!!

I hope more people read this and get usful information from it as I feel you can't get better advise from those who have actualy been through it aswell!

There is no need to take that kind of attitude. Some women have really suffered with this implant and want to share their thoughts with other women.
If it puts people off then there is nothing we can do about that, if your that bothered then you don't have to read what we have to say!
If women can't "moan" about it on here with other women that have gone through the same thing, then where can they???

Implanon

Postby ladym82 on Sat Jun 14, 2008 10:04 am

I have had the implanon for nearly 2 years now and have had nothing but trouble. I have a a heavy period every two weeks (cost me a fortune in tampons) and have suffered severe cramp and bowel problems which I put down to the implanon as it has happened ever since I have had it. I woudn't recommend this to anyone.

As for putting on weight, that hasn't really happened. If anything I lost some weight after I came off the pill and had implanon and now I am at a healthy weight.

I don't want to go back on the pill nor have the coil so am unsure what to do next? I have heard that when you have the implanon removed, you can be super fertile.

I have heard some women have had success with this, but the majority of women seem to have also suffered with irractic periods, me being one of them :(

My advice.......................don't get implanon!!!!

implant issues

Postby Jesska! on Mon Jun 16, 2008 12:55 pm

I am 16 years old and I got the implant because I liked the idea of being able to have sex without condoms and not get pregnant. I got it about 5 weeks ago, but I'm growing concerned after reading what everybody has said
I have been on my period for 6 days so far... When they usually last about 4 or 5. Is this the implant sorting itself out? In terms of mood swings, I've found that one minute I've got the biggest smile on my face then the next I'll be able to cry at practically anything, yesterday at work my boss ticked me off for something really small and i had to swallow back my tears!
I haven't experienced any weight gain yet, but after reading most of the comments I'm really scared :|
I find it difficult to gain weight anyway but what if that changes ?
I haven't read any comments on here that say they've had no problem on the implant !
It's worrying!
Also, I've heard that the implant decreases your sex drive? But for me it's made it worse! It's increased!
I understand that everybodys different, my mums had the implant for 3 years and shes never had a period or weight gain or mood swings, so she's got the good side of it.

Would appreciate it if someone could talk to me and put my mind at rest!

normajeane1234.
i wouldnt let it get to you that much honestly.
in the end its just a piece of plastic on your arm.
everytime you feel your gonna be in a mood.
find something to keep your mind off it.
you just have to do things to pretend its not there.
&as for the doctors they can sod off tbh!
just keep going back they cant keep sending you away.
if its doing that to youu.
it will all be over sooon.
and everything will be back to normal:)!
itz making most people miserable so why not get 2gether with someone who has it so you can talk about how good it will be when its gone.
