contraceptive implant

Postby becky_218 on Mon Jul 07, 2008 4:45 pm

i am 22 years old, previous contraception used was the mini pill. i thought i would try the implant as previously been caught out pregnant using the pill severly years ago. however i now have a beautiful 3 month old little girl, after giving birth i chosse the implant. i have had the implant in now for 1 month and 3 weeks of this i have been bleeding. i never normally suffer from period pains and the implant isn't causing andy other side affects apart from prolonged blleding which is starting to get me down.

should i have the implant removed? i am seriously considering this as i can only hope that periods will not continue this way but have no reasurrance that things will get better... :(

so out it will come.[/code][/b]

My doctor said i should lose some weight now which i hopeing won't take to long!! As i dont want to be this size anymore! i shall re-write again in 2 weeks time to tell you all how its gone!!

Also to becky_218: the bleeding should stop after a while but then it can only stop for a week and restart again, but then it maybe different for you thou, as i said i've only had it in for 10 months and just had it taken out.....Good Luck

Hi all, Just found your forum, I have already booked my appointment to have my implant removed, but no sooner than mid August!!!, anyway my story:
Had the implant placed in march 2006, I've been on various minipills etc as I have a cystic ovary and its not really for the contraception side as my husband and I dont mind condoms, but more for the excruciating pain I experienced when I ovulate, anyhoo, 1st year pretty magnificent, I had no periods and recommended it to a coleague who had one place 3 weeks after me and is also having hers out early due to headaches, but yeh seemed great then after 1 year started bleeding 2-3 weeks it lasted at a time with 2 days between, libido non existant and mood swings through the roof, I gained weight but wasnt bothered now I am I really cant shift it and diets dont work as I only ever lose 4-7lbs and gain em back, the final straw was the fact I became anaemic and was on treatment for it, then I started bleeding full period in February this year and am still bleeding and am severely anaemic (the bleed has not stopped once and is getting rather expensive in the tampon department) my anaemia isnt getting any better and I am so rude and aggressive to my husband (bless him he is so understanding) I can't wait to get it out, I'd take it out myself but unfortunately its in my right arm and im a righty, ah well good luck to everyone else on this sinking ship, jump now everyone

about 6 weeks after removal...

Postby piefacerecords on Wed Jul 09, 2008 8:45 pm

I posted on here a few weeks ago when I had my implant removed (because of weight gain, bleeding, spots, loss of libido blah blah blah) and I wanted to let all the worrying women on here know that it really doesn't take long to get back to normal.

I had it out around 5 or 6 weeks ago and my mood swings have totally sorted themselves out, better skin, sex drive, now just waiting for some weight loss!

The only thing I would say to people asking about conceiving is to wait until you've had at least one normal period. It's best to have the reassurance that your womb lining is back to normal before you make a baby in it, and although fertility returns the same day as implanon removal, I think it's best to wait a few weeks and have a normal period before getting preggers.

So stop fretting anyway, because once it's out things get better very quickly :)

implanon

Postby kleishy on Thu Jul 10, 2008 11:04 pm

thank god i'm not going mad. I've had my implanon in for 2 years and since then i've went from a size 14-16 to a size 22, i've always been between a size 12-14 but before i got the implanon i had 2 babies back to back(hence the reason i was a size 14-16). i have had breathing problems, lumps in my left breast, heavy periods lasting 3-4weeks at a time except for the odd week or 2 months of a clear run. have had pains at the back of my right eye, severe tiredness, dizziness and nausea - at one point it was that bad i was quizzing myself over thinking there could be a possibility that i may be pregnant on implanon. (haha yeah i know). also had very bad mood swings and used to be a really mad outgoing person but since the implanon i feel i need someone to hold my hand all the time when going out even down to the corner shop.

The only pro of implanon is that it stops unplanned pregnancy!

weighed against all the cons i reckon i'm gonna bug the doc to rip it out. if that fails i'll tell them i want to add to my little family (a little white lie won't hurt lol)

Thank goodness I found this site

Postby kh249 on Fri Jul 11, 2008 4:13 pm

Hi there I am soo glad I have found this site , I had my implant put in september due to forgetting to take my pill. The first few months were great only having a period for one day. Now the past 6 months have been a NIGHTMARE either I have a constant light period for a couple of weeks or a really heavy one , which seems to stop for a couple of days then come back again. It is really getting to me know as obviously the reason for gettin the implant was to enable me to sleep with my boyfreind and not have to worry. But seeing as I have a non stop period I am not even getting the chance to do that. It is so frustrating. I have put on lots of weight even though excersising does not help. i am gettin it out on Monday thank god and please anybody thinking of getting it dont it makes your life a misery. Mood swings, weight gain , heavy non stop periods not a fun time at all. can Anyone suggest what I should do after having it taken out to make me back to normal again? Iv got lots of things running through my mind I thought there was something seriously wrong with me! But seeing this site has eased my mind knowing im not the only one going mad! Thanks

Just in response to Evange234, can I say I completely agree! It sounds as though some of you have had a really tough time with Implanon which must be horrendous, but the concentration of negative comments is likely to be because people who've had problems are _ trying to find answers. Mt implant is due to be removed in Dec, and this coincides nicely with the fact that me and hubby want to start a family soon. I've spotted this site whilst looking to find out how long it may take to get preggas.

I haven't had any issues with the implant. I've had three periods over the last 2 years. Incidentally these seem to conicide with whenever I've lost weight. I have always been overweight so I'm not sure that any weight gain I've had is due to the implant, but I do agree it's been harder to lose then when I was on the pill.

My local clinic has always been really helpful, and have never indicated that there'd be a problem getting it taken out. In fact at each check up, they've asked me how I'm getting on with it, do I still want to continue with it etc. That in itself sugegsts they wouldn't mind taking it out of I'm having problems.

I'd recommend trying it to anyone, as ultimately it's removeable, and it really has been convenient for me. I went on it because I donk work locally and when I was on the pill I was having to take time off work to get my repeat prescription due to the fact they have to take your blood pressure. It's a small thing, I know, but it's been so easy just having an annual check up.

I hope someone finds this useful, and I hope that all of you who have had problems manage to find something suitable. We're all different, and will suit different things. Good luck to you all!

Hi, i had the implne in 5 years ago, then had my second one put in 2 years ago. It is the best thing i ever did. To take it out they give u a local anesthetic, then make a tiny insition and push it out. You dont feel a thing.
When i first had mine put in, my periods changed to every 9 months, after the 2nd year they changed to every 6months. After having it removed and my second inserted, they changed to every month but are very light and last only a day or 2. Its fantastic. I have not at all felt depressed and have not gained weight. I have managed (through weight watchers - because i am already overweight) to lose 3 stone without any problems. I do though, have bad stomach cramps the day i come on, which i have never had before.
I highly recommend this to everyone and do feel for those who have had bad experiences with it. But if it is right for you, it really is fantastic!

implant nightmare

Postby mally on Mon Jul 14, 2008 12:10 am

Hi all

Implanon doesnt work for everyone, mine has been a nightmare. Got it in October last year. Was fine until Christmas when I started bleeding and have been bleeding since. The DR told me to stick it out and i did but i'm still bleeding and 7months of it is enough! Sure, it worked, i'm not pregnant but that's mainly because I barely have sex because of bleeding!! But it's coming out tomorrow! Hopefully its easy enough!! I'm glad I tried it but its not for everyone

implanon good riddins!!

Postby Danielle11111 on Mon Jul 14, 2008 3:12 pm

I had my baby son on 10th May 08 - And had implanon fitted on 23/06/08, I had the bleeding from after the birth and later my period and had the implanon fitted on the last day of my period which was my normal cycle 7 days - a week after having it fitted i was fine but then started bleeding and i have not yet stopped it has nearly been 3 weeks, i no you are thinking i should give it time but i have had 3 weeks of bleeding from the birth and then 1 week my normal period and now nearly 3 weeks of bleeding from implanon and to be honest i am sick and tired of bleeding now - i am spending an arm and a leg on tampax it would be cheaper for me to have another baby as i already have all the stuff - i now weigh 6 stone 14 and i am only 5ft my normal weight is 8 stone and half, i look anorexic and my eyes sink in, and also i have been diagnosed with post natal depression which got 10x worse when i had implanon fitted, i want to look well again and feel fresh down south, this is my 1st baby and i cant enjoy him because i am so skinny and look so ill and am very depressed, today i have booked for the removal and my god i cannot wait! good riddins implanon! if you have just had a baby plzz do not risk this as it is stressful enough having a newborn and going through labour and birth and then the 3 weeks bleeding u really do not need anymore! i continued my sex life after 3 weeks of giving birth but now since having implanon mine and my partners sex life is non exisistant ! they say you go off sex after having a baby well that may be true for some but not me, the thing that has put me off is implanon and thats because of the non stop bleeding, try this if you have not recently had a baby as it is no odds to you weather it works or not, but after so soon having my litlun all i want to do is enjoy my little boy and after today hopfully i finally can and can put my weight back on.
good luck to you all.
