Implanon implant

Postby KD » Thu Nov 23, 2006 8:24 pm

hello, i had my implant fitted nearly a year ago and its been nothing but trouble. ive been lucky enough not to gain any weight but im on a constant period three weeks on three days off, my implant actually hurts under my skin especially when im on,ive had mood swings, such horrible painfull heavy periods, because of constant bleeding, acne, my body temperature is all over the place and ive seem to have lost all motivation and to my partners annoyance my sex drive has all but dissapered. i had the implant put in because i had recently had a baby and was told this was the best form of contraception if you want to become fertile almost straight away which really appealed but now i cant help but feel like a guinea pig i cant wait to get it removed but even that is taking a lot hassel convincing the doctors that my body isnt just going to settle down!im sure the implant might work for some people but my advice is to really research into it before having it done!

Implanon removed 3 days ago

Postby cruisebabe » Sun Nov 26, 2006 3:11 pm

I had my implant inserted in September 2004 at the recommendation of the doctor at Brooks Advisory Clinic. The problems I found with it was: low sex drive, light periods lasting for weeks with short beak then starting again meaning there was little point having much sex drive anyway!! The bonus for me though was that my periods used to be painful the first day but with Implanon there was no pain.

I have put on about a stone in the 2 years but not 100% sure whether I can attribute it to the implant but I'm hoping from reading what has been written on here that now I've had it removed I will lose a little weight :)

I had the implant removed 3 days ago. My decision to remove it was because after having light periods for 2 years I started having VERY heavy periods with huge blood clots lasting for over a week - I felt weak and was worried it would make me anaemic. The doctor offered to give me tablets to control the blood loss but I decided I'd rather return to normality.

The removal was awful - I was given local anaesthetic but could still feel them cutting my arm and the forceps. The doctor spent 10 minutes but every time they tried to grab it it went deeper. The doctor then made a cut at the other end to try to grab the implant from that side. They ended up giving me 3 local anaesthetic injections but fortunately after about 20 minutes they managed to get it out!

Today I have got my first period and it's seems my body is already getting back to normal as it's like how they were before I had the implant with some cramps but I'm happy to have the pain for once

I have had mine for a month now, and my first period lasted about 9 days, so I decided to take the rest of the packet of pills I didn't finish. I then came on my period again straight after, for about 3 days, now I have had old blood for the last two days. Hopefully it will be stopped by tomorrow. My sex drive has increased since I have been on the implant, but I have had the feeling of constant hunger, which is quite strange for me. My periods have got more painful, but VERY light, and for someone who used to have extremely heavy periods which I couldnt cope with, its brilliant.

I have had my implant in now for a year and a half. My periods have been irregular ever since. Sometimes it has been on a week off a week, on for 3 weeks off a week on for 3 weeks or on a week off a day on a week! Its so annoying! I was on Depo injections for 5 years previously so i'm not allowed to use it again incase i have any problems with my bone densisty. I'm not allowed to take the pill due to my migranes so i'm pretty stuck for an alternative. Has anyone been offered anything to regulate the bleeding (apart from the pill obviously) ?

implanon trouble

Postby Guest » Tue Dec 05, 2006 1:10 pm

I am having the same trouble, I am on my first implant, since having it in the first month was fantastic. I have always suffered from painful bleeds with sickness first time in 10yrs i had nothing no bleed no nothing. since september i haven't stopped bleeding, i burst into tears for nothing and have yes gained weight. In a whole i feel i'm driving my poor boyfriend mad he's been very understanding but i feel extremely guilty.
I am asking my dr to take the implant out tomorrow but am worried by side affects i might get, i am staying off contraception for 6months and see how things go.
has anyone suffered really bad side affects after having the implant removed? Has anyone suffered the same problems?

I am on the evra patch have been for 4 years and it is fab ive tried the pill, mini pill, combined pill, depo provera (injection) and after reading this forum will not go on the implant as its same ingredients as the injection however my periods are great not as painful as they use to be. i dont get moody i have a vrey horny high sex drive and am happy! becuase you put on a patch once a week. and it stays on. its great. i too suffered from migranes badly still get them but easy to cope with now. give it a try its called EVRA. i was a guiena pig to see how i went on with them at my doctors and its the best thing thats ever happend to me.:) :) hope this helps kate . x

I had this 3rd one out in October but still no bleeding, iv been told by doc that ovalation can take upto 3 months.
I realised getting pregnant will take me longer because of my age but Im going to try for about a year. Fingers crossed all.

I'm on my 2nd implant now, i really like them, i'm useless at taking the pill and i was worried the injection would make me gain weigh, so the Doc said to go onto implant. I don't have a problem with bad skin and although i've not noticed a gain in weight, i've also not seen a loss (which is a suprise as i split up with my fiance this june) however i haven't been trying to lose weight either. I very rarely have periods and when i do they are just little speckles of blood, i do however sufferwith V. V. bad period pains. I do also get emotional and can cry at the smallest thing. Apart from that i like them! Ican also freak out my friends by showing the implant to them under the skin Eurgh!

:D :D Two sides... Hope anyone thinking about getting the implanon seeks out aGP for advice as most of the stories havent been to good here (I do feel so sorry for you all, nothing worse) but I have never had a problem I was on the injection for two years with great results I only switched as I couldnt find a western doc where I was going but even since Ive switched Ive had no period & no weight gain & I wouldnt go back but everyone reacts diff.. I guess the only thing is people forget to say when it works.. Hope all of you who it hasnt worked for feel better soon.... :P :P :D

Implanon

Postby Embob » Wed Jan 03, 2007 2:59 am

Hi all, I've had implanon in for just under 2 yrs now. My first year was great, I went pretty much a full year without any periods! However, this 2nd year has been a bit difficult. I have had alot of irregular bleeding and for the past couple of months I have constantly been on my period. (Luckily my boyfriend is very understanding!)

I am having it removed on Friday and I hope things are gonna go back to normal. My boyfriend and I have decided just to use condoms in future in order for my body to return to its normal self, and in time when we start to try for a family, there should be no problems (hopefully!) Reading other people's views has been very reassuring and I hope everybody who is having problems gets them sorted. Thanks for reading! xx :)
