Being removed

Postby Guest in Oz on Sat Oct 11, 2008 9:13 am

Hi,

I am about to have my impant removed and I have had it in for 18 months. I have had no problems whatsoever with the impkant. I had been on the Depo injection for approx 5 years previous to this and with the impland and the injection I have never had any bleeding whatsoever! To be honest it has been great. I have gained weight, but I never even considered the implant - mmmmm. I am having the implant removed as I now want a child. I am 40 and have never had a child as yet, so I am somewhat concerned that I can actually concieve!?!? Has anyone been in a similar position to me?

I need some reassurance here! I had the implant put in 3 years ago in June and i am having it taken out in 2 weeks, like 4 months since it was supposed to last 3 years. Does it keep working till i have it taken out cuz in august i had sex.
I havnt had a period for like 2 years and my tummys got really bad pains recently at the moment could this be down to "getting back to normal" i dont think i could be pregnant because i have no other symptoms.

I do need to some reassurance if anyone could give me adivce??

You lot are scaring me! I just got it put in today. didn't really mean to, went into the clinc to talk about the different options, kinda thinking I would want the implant, and the nurse kinda rushed me into a decision. The nurse did lie to me though, I asked if it makes you moody, and she said no. Don't think it's that common though - I'm hoping that it's just a case of only the people with problems are going to be researching this, and the ones who are fine are too busy having worry-free sex to write about it in forums!

implant removal

Hi in response to anyone worried about having their implant removed I think it depends on who does it, Ive had mine out after 9mths of bleeding, hot flushes, dizzyness, low mood and tiredness I was only imformed about the possible bleeding/low mood nothing else and I also had back pain which even now the doctor refuses to accept that was down to the implant! anyway having it removed is pretty much the same as when its put in,they numb the area make a small cut and take it out. If im being honest it wasnt pleasent for me I did have a lot of brusing and a hole that took a couple of weeks to heal it still hurts inside I have the sensation thats its still in my arm im sure that will go! i do think I was just unlucky thats all Im sure you will all be fine. best wishes

I've read that the reason for this rule is because if you've had unprotected sex, the sperm can live for a while, therefore even after a week there could be a chance of pregnancy as straight after the removal of the implant your fertility returns to normal!
Hope this helps...

Also an update on me.
Had the implant out on 8/10/08, so far healing is going well. My moods have perked up a bit... I actually get a bit hyper now (feeling youthful once again)... Things are returning to normal bit by bit... I've just finished my first period since removal (I came on the day i wanted it out!).
It's not that scary... and i had it done by a lady who disagreed with my reasons for wanting it out, I was scared she'd hurt me out of spite, but it was not too bad as i said.

this is my second implant....had my first one put in when i was 18 and i've never had any bother with it in the slightest! for the first 2 years i had regular periods but they where very light and short which i was happy with, the third year they started to get a bit heavier just like a normal period and when i had my new implant in they have stayed the same throughtout.

i'm hoping that when i have this implant out in april that my cycle will be normal and i'll be able to get pregnant quite quickly....fingers crossed!

i had my implant removed in July '08 after 12 months of pain, i was bleeding for 9 weeks solid at one point and i decided enough was enough, at 18 years old i have now decided i want a baby for some silly reason, my periods have not returned to normal i don't know when i am supposed to come on going by the 'norm' which is 28 days i am now overdue according to my last one, since having the implant out my moods have returned to normal i have lost 2 stone and feel far better although it bloody hurt having it out as my local anaesthetic didn't work

Hi,

I had my first implanon put in 3weeks ago (13th Oct!!!) I was in the middle of my current pack of pills. Dr recommending finishing the packet and wasnt sure if I would get a withdrawal bleed or not? Just under a week after the last pill my period started - first day was quite sore but not too heavy then the flow lightened so I only needed a panty liner. Im not really sure if its stopped now or not but I still have cramps in my lower tummy. Not sure if im getting another period? Have people had cramps but no period? Have also had headaches and feeling very tired. Spots are increasing slightly also. Not sure if things will get better or worse? How are others finding it? Do symptoms get better or worse? Have had trouble with spotting on the pill but the last pill I was on Yasmin I didnt get this but I was getting forgetful at taking it. Is the coil any better than the implanon? Im only 25 with no kids so dont think they want to give the coil?

Hhi everyone, ivehad mine in for six months and dont feel myself. Im going to get mine taken out asap. I wanted to get it out about a month afte i had it put in, however the family planning centre made it very diffivult for me to gat an appointment without missing work, which i wasnt prepared to do. I asked if my Gp could do it, they said no-one else in the town could except them. This really upset me, I felt like their was soemthing in my body that I didnt want. I was having a bad day anyway so started crying down the phone to the receptionist and threatened to take it out myslelf with boiling water and dettol. I think they thought I was a complete psycho, but it worked and they gave me an appointment straight waway that suited me, funny that huh? Went to see nurse who told me they are reluctant to take them out soon after theyve been put in as they are very expensive items!! She persuaded me to give the Implant a bit longer, but three monthgs since then am getting rid. Although the bleeding has settled I do feel slightly low and anxious, not like my usual extrovert self, and although I havent put on any weight I have no sex drive whatsoever.

This is the first contracepiton ive ever taken, but really feel that obviosly putting hormones into yourself is going to have a different effect to 'normal'

Hi Everyone...

I just had my implant removed this morning and it feels like suck a relief!

I'd had it in for just over a year and in that time i've gained about a stone in weight due to always craving food whether i was hungry or not! Also I got some nasty spots which could have been related to the implant or to the sugary foods i was eating, i constantly felt bloated and as a result of the above my self confidence really took a turn for the worse.
I could cry at the drop of a hat...for no reason it seemed, i always felt low and down, i actually felt very depressed and even suicidal at one point! :(

So i decided to get it taken out! Just to see what happens, i'm going to use condoms for a month or so and then probably go back on the pill.

Getting it taken out was really straight forward..the doctor had said she'd had lots of patients with the same problems so she was actually doing a survey to send to the NHS about the consequences of having the implant...so that might help!

(this was a surgery in hul BTW)

Anyway don't give up hope! :D

Hi

I had the implant fitted in May 08 and have booked to have it out in a couple of weeks.

I am annoyed at people saying that weight gain cannot be down to the implant! I eat very well between 1200 and 1500 calories a day, I eat 5 small meals a day and workout 4-5 times a week which consists of a combination of cardio and weight training. Cardio is always an hour long at high intenstiy followed by my weight training. I run up to 30km a week, cycle up to 40km a week and eat very well. I have put on 20lbs, WTF! I do have the occasional treat and uauslly ona weekend day but never excessive. How can anyone say to me that I eat too much and dont excersise? I have become so unhappoy that my boyfriend worries about me, I am moody, fat and generally feel the worst I have felt in years. I was losing weight when I had the implant fitted and it was going really well then it started going up and up and up and I could not give a reason for it. I have since spoke to my doctor and I am having it removed to see if my weight will go down afterwards with my routine as it is. I will update you after I have it removed. This is scheduled for the 23rd Dec.

ive has mine since april 21st 2008. so 7 and a half months.
my moods yo yo. im generally angry/grumpy/upset/crying. i'm crying now. i cry at anything. i get angry at anything. the pms has become unbearable. im so tired of being unhappy all the time. im always grumpy or sad. im anxious and paranoid. i feel suicidal regularly now. my moods have got worse gradually since april. once i start crying i cant stop. the same with my anger. i get in foul moods. (poor boyfriend) i lash out and scream. my periods have increased from 2 a month plus spotting to three. and have gradually got heavier the past 2 months. i want it out today. i have an appointment at my clinic tonight. i want it out i will cry if they wont let me. i know it cost £100+ but i cant bear feeling like this. i feel like im losing my mind, my moods are so uncontrollable. i hav'nt gained any weight, ive lost if anything. but the periods are very irregular and i want to be happy again. i will be either very pissed or very upset if they refuse to remove it. i was told the minimum removal time was 6-12 months. xxx
