Hi
I have had the implanon in for about 3 months now and have searched the side effects mentioned regularly on here. I have had spontaneous bleeding at differing intervals. Really bad headaches causing vomiting and now the final straw is that my stomach looks and feels like im about six months pregnant. I want it removed but im concerned that the doctors will not remove it after this short while? But surely its my decision. Also been getting spots recently but didnt realise it could be down to this. :(

Hi,
After reading a few of these, I felt so much better. I am not goign out of my mind.

I have had the Implanon for over 2 years, I agree it is good as a method of contraception, however is it worth it?
Before I had the Implanon myeand my partner were using condons which are a real moment killer, but a lot cleaner!!!!

Side effects for me:

1) Irragular periods sometimes 2 weeks solid and really heavy, other times 2 or 3 times a month for 3 days really clotty and brown coloured - which is perfectly normal whilst using the Implanon.

2) Greasy hair and skin - causing really bad acne

3) Mood swings - My partener insists I have a split personality, bad tempered and quite agressive with my fists. Which consequently cause a lot of problems between couples, every woman knows that when it is the time of the month you get mood swings, but try telling that to a guy, even better try telling hime that 3 time a month, when you have irregular periods.

4) I exsperience a cramp at the bottom of my stomach like a period pain, but 100000 times worse causes me a lot of pain that pain killer could note cure. I believe this was due to the lineing breaking away, this only happened when I had clott Blood

5) I did not gain weight, but found that when I was on my period my stomach would swell up causing me to look pregnant

6) My appertite increased dramatically - I eat sleep and dream food non stop! I am alway hungry, This is down to the hormone that is released gradually from the Implanon, which will be the cause for you women gaining weight dramatically. I am quite young and have a fast matabalism, but as you get older it slows down.
I would suggest staggering your meals have more little meals rather than big, also try not to eat after 8pm and drink a glass or warm water before bed. Most people get hungry at night, but this is normally thirst, but mistake for bing Hungry.

7) I also noticed that I become more lazy, I would rather drive to the corner shop than walk.

8) Depression and Parannoia

9) High Sex Drive

I hope this is help full information - Would I recormend the Implanon?? NO!! definately not, saying that I would not recormed the Pill/ Mini Pill or Injection ether! But everyone reacts differently.

Hi ladies,

i am praying that when i get this thing out i will go back to normal. My mum basically pressured me into getting the implanon after a termination. It has caused me nothing but trouble. At first i broke out in huge spots al over my face which is very unusual for me as i never get spots. I also constantly bleed. I had mine inserted in August and then had a period from the beginning of november to the end of december. My face has finally cleared up but i am now getting spots all over my scalp, i constantly want to cry even at the silliest things like someone laughing, have put on about a stone in weight and am constantly arguing with my boyfriend.

I agree that this is an easy contraceptive- you just get it put in your arm and forget about it for three years.

However its been the worst 5months so far. As a student nurse i would never recommend this to anyone who asks me about it. I would rather use condoms which i am allergic to than have this done again!

Implanon contraceptive implant and ACNE

Postby serlesjen on Mon Jan 05, 2009 11:01 pm

Hi

Just thought I would let you know my experience of implanon - which has not been a positive one.
I had it put in in early September '08. I had decided I wanted a change in contraception after having been on dianette pill for acne for several years. This had been keeping my previously severe acne at a mild and bearable level but I wanted an improvement and i had also read the potential side effects of being on Dianette for a long time. I went on several different courses of antibiotics to try and improve my skin which were all unsuccessful and for some reason decided to have implanon inserted. I did a bit of research and took acne as a side effect with a bit of a pinch of salt as this seems to be a side effect of most things and I was so keen to have a hassle free contraceptive. It was inserted with no problems and after a week my arm was back to normal. However my long-standing acne soon deteriorated, slowly at first, then much quickly at an ever increasing rate. I had got a referral to a dermatologist who I saw in November - he said it is common for implanon to worsen acne and said ideally it would be best having it taken out. However as I was also gonna be starting roaccutane in January (after blood tests etc) and it was paramount that I didn't get pregnant he said to leave it in for the time being. Following this appointment my skin got even worse (as bad as I have ever had with many large, red inflammed spots and boils on my cheeks and jawline) and I went to discuss removal of the implanon with my GP as I have been so low and miserable with my skin. I knew I would rather abstain from sex and have this thing out than have to endure it for any longer. She agreed that she would take it out and I would go back on dianette. I am having it out tomorrow and can't wait. It was the worst decision having it put in. I would advise anyone with a history of acne not to have the implanon.

I didn't suffer any weight gain or weight loss with the implanon and bleeding was irregular but very light.

I had Implanon inserted 5 months ago. I liked the idea of possibly not having periods and not having to remember to take the pill. I had a month of no bleeding but since then I have bled every day, only a little bit but its doing my head in having to wear a panty liner every day and not being able to wear nice knickers! I have lost over a stone but thats due to starting weight watchers. I dont know how my weight would have fared without the diet. I think I'll have out and go back to the pill or have injections. I'm also worried as I've heard fertility goes down to nothing for a couple of years after you have it removed. That could just be a rumour though. I would recommend giving it a go to anyone as everyone's body responds differently and it could just be the perfect thing for you.

Hi

I would like to add that I am now on my 2nd implant.

After 3 years of no problems with the first I opted for another.

I wish i hadn't, I have had no stop bleeding (which i now have to take the pill for aswell as still have the implant in) Also, I can not control my temper any more.

I seem to lash out at the smallest things. Not just an argument but literally lashing out and attacking my partner for no reason. I dont even remember how they start or anything! Am I the only person to suffer with this sort of problem?

I am going to see comeone if i find out this has nothing to do with the implant but I have NEVER in my life hit anyone, and i find it too much of a coincidence that i have started to within a month of having the 2nd implant in.

HELP!!!!

They will do anything to stop you having the implant removed as its a lot of money wasted for them.

I'd just play on words a bit and make it sound worse than what it is. Dont fall for the 'give it time' phrase like i have done this time.

Insist that you want it removing asap

It is amazing how so many people can be feeling like this, yet we aren't told. I decided on the implant because i was in a long term relationship and on my last year of university.

the first three months were absolute hell. I was in tears every day. It sort of setteled down and I had a 8 day period every 2-3months. I was still very hormonal. I hated not knowing when my period was going to come.

I have had pregnancy symptoms for the last month and have taken tests. the first one said positive, the last 3 have said negative. It messes with you head. I have come around to the fact imnot pregnant now, but I feel disapointed that something can make you feel so sure, and not have anythingto show. I have bloating. cramps, spots, very tender breats, nipples changing colour, heartburn etc.

I am going to have it removed next week (well i have my first appointment with my new doctor). I hope he will just take it out. I've put up with this for 18 months. Im getting married in 2 1/2 months and I can't concentrate on anything.

its given me insomnia, slight depression, anxiety to the point i feel paranoid just going to the shop by myself.

has anyone else had a pregnancy or false pregnancy on inplanon?

p.s. it has also lowered my sex drive, and im only 21! :tounge:

Hi everyone, its so nice to know other people are suffering!

I had my second impant put in in October and it is just not the same. My other one had been in for three years id had no periods at all and life was pretty simple. With my new one I have lost every single ounce of my sex drive, i HATE it. I am also finding it soooo hard to lose weight, and to those saying its down to exercise i think thats crap, I am in the gym working out 4 times a week, i eat very well drink loads of water. I do however have NO periods still which most people like but my body just doesnt feel normal...

These are the main reasons that I want it removing, I want to just use condoms for a while (my main reason is our wedding coming up in June i really want to look my slimmest!)... I am just wanting to know if its worth saying to the nurse that those are my reasons for removal as I know people have had trouble getting it removed (how ridiculous is that anyway!)...Or am i best just saying we are trying for a baby? help!

Hi everyone, I had my implanon removed on Dec 17th, 2008 it is now Jan 7th, 2009 and I haven't gotten a period yet ( I didn't get one while I had the implant in either) It was in for around a year and 3 months, insted of starting the pill right away I decided to wait until I got a natural period before I started taking the new pill (ya know give my body a break from the hormones).
Anyone know when I may get a period, or when did you get one after removal??
Thanks CAROLINE!
