I really needed to pass my driving test, my daughter who is now 3 could only get to nursery if I could drive her there, took my 1st test ages ago and failed, took my 2nd last New Years eve and failed, had my 3rd today and I passed, the day before her nursery start date. I cried when I passed the examiner thought I was nuts! Hooray...she's off to nursery in the morning :)

Its the worst exam I think you ever have to take, you have 40 minutes to pass but it only takes 1 second to fail! All I can say is try your best, you will pass eventually, most test centres have about a 30% pass rate, so that means I guess most people take about 3 times to pass, theres no shame in that, Also I found that I learnt a lot from the things I failed on, so just put it down to experience and soldier on ... GOOD LUCK x

hi, i have my test in a few days. has anyone here taken their test at the chesterfield centre? could really use some tips or insight to the examiners there. not looking forward to it at all, wish my instructor could have booked it and kept it secret then just sprung it on me on my regular lesson time SURPRISE ITS YOUR TEST DAY!!!!! but no, he wouldnt go for it, he says there is no reason for me to fail the test as my driving is flawless but i am winding myself into knots over it and will be a gibbering idiot by test day. maybe ill get lucky and be abducted by aliens before its too late TAKE ME AWAY

This forum is really helpful! I felt like absolute crap until about 2 hours ago. Now that I'm reading everyone's posts, I'm starting to lighten up; after all, it's definitely not the end of the world. It is the end of my driving fantasies, however.
I failed my second attempt this morning. It's definitely shattering. I am only 18, though, so driving and getting my license is my main priority, and has been for the last 3 months. I know it doesn't sound like long, but when something you want so badly is right there in front of you, it's horrible for it to be taken away from you.
My first attempt was utter rubbish. I was taught that to do a point-to-point reverse park or reverse parallel park, you slowly back into the curb until you experience the 'dipping' feeling of your back wheel dipping into the curb. Well. The manouevre I got for my first test was a point-to-point. Completely useless if you ask me, since I do not think that majority of people will reverse for 20 metres to park into the curb. Of course, the curb I got was flat and not high, and I was waiting for that dip feeling, which of course, did not happen since the curb was flat. So I mounted the curb, and BOOM instant fail.
I managed to get into a cancellation for my next attempt, I only had to wait 12 days and not 2 months! It made me very happy. So today, my instructor was 10 minutes late to pick me up. This made me edgy. We got to the test area and went around and she showed me tips and tricks etc., "I'm not worried about you!" she told me. I'm not being arrogant, but I wasn't worried either. I was pretty adamant that I would pass my second attempt; I had been driving non-stop for the last 12 days and I had been working on manouevre techniques. 15 minutes into the test, I'm doing extremely well, 98%. I only lost points for not looking behind me during my 3-point-turn manouevre, which turned into a 5 point turn because the road was quite narrow and my car was long. But that was it. Until I reached a road with a series of concrete islands and different signs and narrow streets and fast oncoming traffic. I was confused. I was turning right and went to far while I was trying to look for signs. I finally understood what I should do, and when it was safe to go, I let the car roll and was about to quickly turn my wheel fully to the right when my instructor took matters into her own hands, assuming I was going to drive over the island, and slammed her foot on the brake. I should have said what I was going to do so she wouldn't have intervened, since her intervening is an instant fail. I was so disappointed, I was 2 minutes away from passing. I didn't cry like my first attempt though, but I still was quiet in the car. It was only until I rang my parents at work that I broke down. I think I was crying for the money. So far, it's cost me $920.00 for all my driving and most of it's mine, and I only have a casual retail job. And I think I also cried for the failure (of course), and also for the waiting. Knowing what to expect when I go for the test makes me more shaky. The next opening for a test is in a month and a half, and to be honest, I cannot wait, but I know I have to.

I just failed my 6th test! Yes, 6th :P It's ok though, i'm just not lucky I guess. I can drive fine, everyone says I can, except the examiners it seems! I failed today for hesitation (even though it was a really foggy day and couldn't see much anyway :S) and not checking my mirror on a roundabout (well I did check it but he said it was too early :S) what a git. I keep getting bad examiners or just being so unlucky. On my second test I basically passed and that was 6 months ago now :( sucks. I know before I just wasn't confident enough! No-one really knows how many tests i've taken because everyone seems to pass 1st, 2nd or 3rd time. I was meant to be driving me and my boyfriend to college from last September but we keep paying for the bus instead. I'm ging to keep going and hope I finally do it one day! My parent's got me a brand new car and have spent so much on me, not sure if this is even worse than paying for yourself because of letting them down! Anyway, good luck to everyone and I hope you don't take as many as me :) x

Can I join the club please : ( OHHH god it sucks SO MUCH for so many reasons. I had 6 faults, two of which were serious failfodder.

1. Banged kerb on my turn in road as I tried to hurry cause people were waiting either side :o

2. The instructor felt i would have touched an old ladies shopping bag with my wing mirror had she not moved it away

The worst part was the fact that the kerb thing happened right at the start and you really have to grit your teeth to carry on and drive well knowing full well that you've failed.
My advice would be to never 'give up' during the test cause although it's a small comfort, you CAN feel good about taking the knock but having the bottle to carry on and at the end of the day, it's not life and death... no one's died... hopefully.

Yep, don't knock anyone over, I guess that would be a fail
x GOOD LUCK EVERYONE AND NEVER GIVE UP! x

Don't let this put you down!

The Government chooses who will pass people on their first test or not, on average only 5% of people pass first time round. This is because they have a deal that gives driving instructors more money! And the fact if so many people passed first time they would face the same uproar as they do over A-Levels.

Damn conspriacies, such times we live in

todays my test!

Sitting my test at 1.30 today....the nerves are certainly kicking in and i dont feel particularly optomistic. Bay parking is a biggy for me i just cant seem to get it right. Always land on the white lines this of course is an instant fail. Dont know how to calm the nerves although i did buy a CD that apparently calms you down, i will give it a go before i leave the house. I am also having to combat bad weather today as Scotland is in the process of floods and i can remember where my wipers are on my instructors car. Anyway will let you all know how it goes....either way i wont give up!!!

Good luck to others sitting their testa xxx

stupid, stupid, stupid, STUPID.

Why the hell can't you just say "OH bugger, I did something unsafe and failed to drive to the required standard for the duration of the test".

Why is it never your fault?

For gods sake it's very simple.

You drive safely - you pass the test.
You don't drive safely - you fail the test.
Thats why it's called a test stupid.

I PASSED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Postby wenrho on Wed Jun 04, 2008 10:57 pm

I sent my message in yesterday morning to say i was sitting my test......cant believe i passed! I had a dreadful 2 hr lesson before the test and got everything wrong, when my tester (who was lovely) told me i had passed with NO FAULTS you could have picked me up. To be honest i chatted to my tester most of the 35 minutes and he was very chatty in return. I did 3 roundabouts, a turn in the road and a reverse. The rain had stopped for me and i felt everything was on my side. For all of you guys taking your test, stay calm, drive safely and remember the tester is human!!!!!

Good luck to you all.............and happy driving! x : :D

I failed my test today for the first time, all because i didn't check my blind spots - i'm so annoyed at myself because it's something i always check. i had perfect conditions: good weather, clear traffic, nice well known area, i just feel like im not gonna be able to get them again. :/
