If you have to ask, you can't afford it...

Figure on $60,000 US, maybe £50,000 UK....

I have a Lexus IS300 Sportcross that I bought new about 5 years ago. It has never gone wrong, is great to drive, and I can leave a trail of surprised BMWs in my wake if I want to. You get what you pay for.

I have a Lexus IS300 too. I have had 2 x IS200 Sport's before, I prefer manual, but the IS300 looks ordinary, but goes like stink. It is great to leave those poxy german cars gasping in my wake.

Oh, does anyone else do this with the IS300?
If you want to overtake quickly, switch to PWR ECT, select 'manual' on the gear shift, and change down with the buttons on the steering wheel so's you're already in 3rd.
When it's clear to overtake, floor the accelerator and immediately flip the gear shift into 'automatic'. This gets you away without any lag while the automatic gearbox downshifts.

i don't doubt that lexus are well engineered and well built, but i can't see how anyone can get too excited about them - they look too bland....

Agreed they look fairly average. Inside they are luxury personified. Very quiet, barely hear the engines. Excellent stereos and most of the extras you have to pay buckets for where it a german car, come as standard. The reliability of Toyota engineering to boot. Did you know they are rated the most luxurious cars in USA?

Lexus drivers are nothing more than BMW/Mercedes wannabes.
End of arguement.

i don't think so. the prices for the three makes are roughly comparable, so surely if someone is driving a lexus, they are doing so because they want to, not because they really want a bmw or mercedes.

anyway, who's arguing?

I had a Merc before the Lexus. The Lexus is better made, faster, quieter, and unlike the Merc has been totally reliable over 60k miles. Wouldn't go back. Never tried a BMW, to be fair.

don't get me wrong - i'm not saying that they aren't good cars - quite the opposite - they're very good. it's just that they don't appeal to me at all, but that's just my personal reaction to their styling - i don't like it - which is a valid reason for me not buying one (as is the fact that i couldn't afford one anyway) but not a reason for me trying to dissuade anyone else from buying one. the latest model appeals to me more than the previous ones, but it'll probably take a couple of facelifts (for the car i mean) before i could say i really like it.

btw is the plural lexuses or lexi?
