I Love Tattoos

Postby Tattooed Caroline on Sun Jan 04, 2009 6:09 pm

Hi, I'm Caroline and I just love tattoos. I'm 17 and I'm already extensively tattooed. I got my first tattoo - a rose on my shoulder when I was 14.
I know I'm probably strange but I actually enjoyed the pain of getting tattooed and having this beautiful art on my body.so a few weeks later I was back for a second, then a third and so on. I am at the tattoo studio every two or three weeks.
I now have both arms fully sleeved, my chest and boobs are covered and a full back piece is in progress. I have decided not to get tattoos below my wrists (although who knows if I'll change my mind and get my hands done at some time in the future) and before too long I'll face a major decision on whether I get my legs and feet covered or stop just above the knees.
Are there any other girls out there who share my love of tattoos?

Not at the moment but I'll have some taken when my back piece is finished. It will be a while yet.

Went for another session on my back piece yesterday. Over my spine and really quite painful. Still no gain without some pain and it will look awesome when its finished. My artist showed me some sketches she has drawn showing extending my work down my thighs, legs and feet. It looks fantastic but I'm still not sure whether to go that far. The more I consider it the more I think I probably will eventually.

It wasn't me as I don't have my legs done yet, but I am sure they will be before too long.

Where do you live????
My daughters are of similar age and would love to have tattoos like mom but UK law says min age 18 to get tattooed.
How old were they when they got their tattoos?

Well, that's true but I know some people who got their tattoos at such an early age. So probably some tattooists make exceptions or it might be that if the parents agree, the children can have it done. You can have a try if you want. At the risk of sounding self-righteous, I'd rather not let my very young children have tattoos - they aren't mature enough, they might do it on a whim or under peer pressure and will regret it someday. But it's your choice, it was just a highly personal remark on my part, so don't take it as indoctrination. :D

As for me, I don't have anything against tattoos and I quite like them if ithey suit the person. My grandad had his forearms tattooed when he was in the army. I think he did it because it was almost de rigueur that time there and I think he sort of regrets it now. He once said he was young and foolish back then. :D He doesn't cover them all the time, though, and I think they suit him in some way. :D My dad's classmates envied my dad because of that (my grandad was very handsome and well-dressed, too) and he wanted to have a tattoo, too, but my grandad talked him out of it. :D Well, I think a (tattooed) dad is not much of a discouraging force, so I reckon it was him (my dad alone) who changed his mind. :D

I can't be (and I don't want to be) extensively tattooed and I am well advised to opt for tattoos that are easy to cover up as I'm becoming a teacher. I don't think it's a problem everywhere, as it's getting socially acceptable, but I'm rather conservative in this respect and I won't take the risk of being judged solely based on that, either. I do think that school isn't a fashion show and you have to stand for things that are permanent (well, tattoos are permanent as in they last forever, but...you know  ) and not to project the image of merely following trends and fads. At the same time, I'm sporting black or conspicious coloured nail polish and a bit of an extravagant but still reasonably elegant look...what a hypocrite I am! Of course, when teaching I'm aiming to look a little more conservative. :D

Just one question for our extensively tattooed mates. I know some extremely impatient people who are extensively tattooed. :D How do they have the patience for that if they don't have it in other situations? :D I know it's a stupid question, but I'd really like to know. I'm basically a patient type of person but I can't imagine doing that. A small tattoo is not a big deal, but getting fully covered is an entirely different kettle of fish.

Yesterday I went for a small rose on my right foot. I had been told that this was an extremely painful place for a tattoo but I barely felt it so went on and had another on the other foot. I think they are beautiful particularly on my tanned skin.
I am putting my back piece on hold for a while and am going to concentrate on getting more flowers on my feet and legs where they can be seen.

I got tattooed in my teens and 40 years on I still love to show off my back piece. Unless it is very cold I will wear a halter neck dress or top so that as much of it as possible is on show.
When I was 14 an old school friend of my mothers came to stay. They had not seen each other since school. When she arrived she looked a meek and mousy type of person . However when we went out for dinner she wore a stunning dress which showed off a fantastic tattoo on her back. It turned out she had married a tattoo artist and was now living in a nearby town.
I was mesmerised and I suspect that I bored her almost to death with my questions.
First opportunity I had I visited the town and found her husbands studio, went in and got a lotus blossom on one shoulder. I had dressed up and it was not questioned when I said I was 18. I made sure my mother didn't get to see it and over the following months I went back several times to get it added to. One day I was under the needle when in walked my mother's friend and recognised me. I was told in no uncertain terms not to come back until I was 18 and when I got home there had been a phone call to tell my mother so I was in serious trouble.
But I had got the tattoo bug and within a few months I was at another tattooist getting further work on my back.
I love my tattoos and have never regretted them for one moment.

When I was in my teens I saw photos of some Japanese women with full body suit tattoos and I was hooked. I not only wanted to be tattooed I wanted a body suit.
At 15 I got a rose on my shoulder to see what it felt like and found that all though it was painful it was not so bad I couldn't handle it.
I then spent 2 years thinking, drawing out what I wanted in rough and talking to various artists. I also considered the consequences of covering my whole body with tattooed designs on my future life.
At 17 my mind was made up, the design and artist finalised and a start was made. After 3 years the work was finished and I was tattooed from my neck to my wrists and toes. My head and hands are the only parts which have not been colored. This work is my private secret. Many of my closest friends have no idea what I am hiding under my clothes and even my mother didn't find out until the work was quite advanced and that was by accident.
I love my decorated body and the consequences such as having to wear high necklines, long sleeves and black hose even in summer is a small price to pay.
My husband shares my love of my decorated body although he is not tattooed himself and has no plans.
When we go on holiday and no-one knows me I do uncover and wear bikinis and try to be patient with all the comments and questions I receive very few of which are uncomplimentary.
I would never encourage someone else to do what I have done. Everyone is an individual and if you are destined to get tattooed you want need to ask anyone else, you'll know!

Wow...some of you are really brave.

I wouldn't venture to do that...ever. As I mentioned in one of my earlier posts, I can only opt for smaller, easy-to-cover pieces due to my profession. What's more, I wouldn't feel comfortable with the idea of getting covered from head to toe. Although I do appreciate artwork (including body art) and admire those who have the courage to do what you did, it's not really my thing.

I myself have a rose tattooed on my chest (just above my right breast). It was a rather careless decision on my part (it runs in the family I suppose :D ) and it's not what you would call a high quality artistic accomplishment. However, I wouldn't say I regret it - that would probably be too strong a word to use. I wouldn't have it done again but I still like it in some way. It's an integral part of me and I don't think I'm ever gonna have it removed. I almost always cover it up (well, it's not very hard to do), so practically no-one knows I have it (except for my family and close friends, of course).
