You can’t have it both ways.

Either the Bible is the Holy Word of God Almighty Revealing his Devine Law for all His Creation and has to be respected and followed absolutely, literally and Word for written in stone Word or it’s just a guidance memo and the whole thing is non binding and open to humanist moral interpretation and vetting against an atheist moral code.

There is an interesting book (which I haven’t read but I’ve flicked through a few times in Waterstones) about a man who tries to literally live by the Bible. Stoning adulterers proved problematic as did weaving his way through all the many contradictions.

BUT he is right and all ancient text have a lot of interpretation room, and I am sure any number of messages could be conjured out of just about any of them with enough effort.

Claiming religious intolerance to give you free reign to be intolerant does put you on shaky ground my friend! What consenting adults do in their own time is their own business, and I think you'll find if you don't think about it, it really won't affect your life all that much! move along and leave them to it, there are more important causes to dedicate your life to.

Based solely on the thread in question, I believe the old saying, "you started it" fits quite nicely. If you post calling someone an abomination, you are going to get flak.

But more seriously your intolerance is against a practice which does not involve you! What they do is none of your business, and its not illegal (in most countries, including the uk where this site is based)

Their intolerance is against someone coming along and sticking their beak in where it is not wanted.

If you take a moment to think about that, you will see it is an important distinction. And yes if you come across random threads STARTED by someone with no other purpose than to call your faith an abomination then I will look into it.

If you really feel the need to try and reform sinners, why not volunteer down your local prison and start with the thieves and murderers? At least those are illegal and do have their own commandments!

There have been great advances in the treatment of HIV related conditions in recent years. Bad news for those who hoped it was the ultimate curse from an angry God on the "sinners" the evangelical extreme right hate, good news for those who suffer from just one of many illnesses - and in the UK you could even get treatment on the NHS.
