That Formy (WS6) has been stroked to 400?

Is that 4th Gen behind it an LT1 (93-97) or an LS1 (98-02)? Ever race either of them?

I've heard many times over that the 4th Gen LS1s will beat C4s everywhere, including handling. Just curious how that plays out. Ever drive their rides?

This is what I used to have - http://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/brochures/1988Firebird/gta_ad.jpg

This is what I have now - http://i315.photobucket.com/albums/ll464/Usquanigo/BeautyhasaDarkSide.jpg
(that was before I put the Koni shocks on, which dropped the car a small but noticable amount)

We don't get to race around here, but my C4 outdrags those others easily.

Sorry for the Formula '400' I still regard them all as such since my old '72

BAAAAAAD!!!!

Nice! Early 2nd Gens rock. As do late 2nd Gens. 8)

So are you guys a rarity over there? Is Clarkson's view on American cars the norm, or the exception?

American Car clubs are very big over here. Our Corvette nats get bigger every year .

http://www.corvetteclub.org.uk/viewtopic.php?t=5880

We have Mopar only shootouts at the drags and loads of forums, runs, cruises etc...

http://www.moparuk.com/index.php?page=6&sid=770782423f246efd57f6dd7dc8316be9

and the rest.....

Clarkson makes his dosh by being controversial, so he has to criticise to invoke outraged owners to respond and keep him employed. He LOVES Detroit iron!!!! Detroit is his favourite city in the world. I have all this on vhs. Yes, he loves to give you guys a hard time, but its all tongue in cheek, hence the way the presenters of Top Gear play off against each other..

Read his Callaway review...

http://www.corvetteclub.org.uk/viewtopic.php?t=6077

I loved his critique of the C6 when he pressed in the back panel and demonstrated how much it flexed.. Now every time a vette is parked up in the UK, someone has a go! If it were a Ferrari F40 or such, he'd probably wax on about the "intelligent use of lightweight materials!" :?

I tell you this, if GM made the vette in rhd and able to take a set of golf clubs, they'd clean up here.. its way better than anything, fast, reliable, superb handling on our blacktops, long service intervals, and great mpg.

Please don't take it seriously, its all just good fun!!

What we need is a US programme give the Eurotrash a hard time.

You are absolutely right that had that C6 clip been a Ferrari, he'd have gone on about the advantages and smart design and such. Just like had the Z06 been a Ferrari or Lotus or Aston he'd have left it just at the video clip, instead of coming up with an artificial laundry list of complaints - he was compelled to do so just because it was American.

I understand that they are trying to get a rise, but who's to say they don't actually interact with each other like that naturally? Who's to say that they don't actually feel that way?

I mean, tongue in cheek is one thing, but he *goes out of his way* to attack US (and Porsche) cars. He doesn't like the Germans very much either, but they get more slack just because they are European. And he stacks his tests too - Lotus Exige vs Mustang GT? Seriously? Not the same price rance, or purpose in the market, yet he puts that up as a yard stick of English vs American car design.

Don't get me wrong, I think he's funny when he's not talking about the US, and I love the show, I'm one of the few YouTubers/Torrentists he mentioned. I have quite a stack saved up, and plan to pick up BBCA just for that when I get a break financially. But still, it does get old listening to how we can't do anything right and how all our cars suck, when we offer better bang for the buck, equal quality, more reliability, lower Total Cost of Ownership, and just as much performance as the rest of the world. It must really stick in his craw how often Corvette Racing comes in 1 and 2 at Le Mans. lol

But I digress.... Good to know that it's not a universal opinion. Makes me wonder about other stuff too, like guys wearing shorts. lol But that's a whole 'nother topic.

I always wished they would take older cars, or that I could find something from 2002 with an F-Body. I really want to have Stig put my car through it's paces and see where it sits.

On the one hand, I love seeing that our cars are well liked over there. On the other hand, I hate seeing cars pulled out of the reserve pool. lol :P (teasing ;) )

Found a link for one of the aftermarket paddle shifters - http://www.popularhotrodding.com/tech/0507phr_twist_machines_paddle_shifter_install/index.html

That, plus one of these - http://www.atsg.biz/cgi-bin/shopper.cgi?preadd=action&key=ANEW6L80E&pricecode=&reference=/cgi-bin/shopper.cgi%3Fsearch%3Daction%26keywords%3Dall%26searchstart%3D0%26template%3DTemplates/SearchResult.html%26category%3DANEW%26pricecode%3D

....would be an interesting setup in your car. :)

I know for a fact that JC has a mint '68 XR7 Cougar at home, and he did rate the Ford GT over everything else. We need guys like that around to wake us up and not get complacent about what we drive.

Over here, 911's are the middle age dream for beemer owners and the rest, and as such, JC is much reviled due to his dislike of them. The guy is a deep petrolhead and not afraid to court controversy, remember two of his favourites are the vette motored Vauxhall Monaro and that new Cadillac hotrod (its name escapes me..)!!

If you can, check out a tv series called Jeremy Clarksons Motorworld, the episode when he was in Detroit... You'll be pleasantly surprised!

A 68 Cougar? Really? Are you sure he didn't dump it? I heard that he dumped the Ford GT (can't remember why though).

I recall him saying good things about the classic Mustang, and also about a Roush Stage 3. But I guess my point was, it's fine to stir up controversy and poke at people to get a rise (I don't necessarily agree with it, but whatever), but....(!), you mention the 911. That's a classic example of the differences. If he did that, that would be one thing - he once praised Germany when talking about the Rolls Royce Phantom, and often praises their engineering capabilities. But with Americans, he attaks us, our culture, and our technical capabilities with so much more ferocity that it's not even funny.

But.... we really got sidetracked. lol

Got any mods planned for the C4?

Right now I'm researching the cause of a rear end "wiggle" (for lack of a better term), as well as dreaming about power mods (and hte money needed to buy them, lol).

Last year at the Goodwood Breakfast, we had a 'Gone in Sixty Seconds' theme with one car of every type that was in the film as well as a multitude of US car clubs. Some guys were there from JC's production team and they got such a hard time from us, but they enlightened us on a few facts about JC and his love of US steel.

Please don't be offended by remarks like what you hear on the show. Its only TV. Don't mean a thing. Everyone gets it. We are deeply ingrained in US culture here, despite what you may see on tv. The vast majority of this country realise only too well what the US has done for us in terms of huge sacrifices to secure our freedom to be able to speak and do as we please now, and over the last century, JC included! Simply put, all we have now, is singularly down to what you and your countrymen did for us.

The Ford GT was dumped due to its problematic immobiliser problem, not the car itself. Richard Hammond rated the new Mustang highly but as the cost of a Roush is the same as the fully restored '68 390GT he compared it to (..his own!!), guess which one he preferred??

C4? No more mods, it runs fine and is my daily driver which takes me on holiday too. Its faster than most around here and can easily take out anything up to a WRX or a EVO V11. That'll do me!

Aww, come on, too much is never enough. ;)

A touch of nitrous, maybe a Paxton or a Whipple, or even a couple of hair driers.... A few pounds of boost would liven anyone's day. :) Though a whipple on that thing would sound MEAN.

Speaking of Gone in 60 Seconds... I never saw the original, but the new one had one of my all time faves in it - http://www.patleck.com/quebecrpm/jaguar/xj220-11.jpg

I would kill to have one of those in left hand drive, manual, and Amaranth Metallic. :worship:

Good to hear about JC. Like I said, I never let it get in the way of my enjoyment of the shows. I still watch them. His solo stuff is ok, but the TG stuff with Hammond and May is just the tops. Even Top Ground Gear Force (or whatever it was called) was great. lol :D
