True, it is a shame if that's what you want to do and potential girlfriends are okay with it...but don't think for a minute that girls can do masculine things and not be called dykes. If my bloke sees a big chunky woman looking extremely manly and wearing her hair in a short back and sides he generally thinks she's gay, as do I often. I don't think any less of them for it but it's just an automatic possibility in my mind when they're looking like the classic stereotypical butch gay woman. A similar thing happens to my boyfriend sometimes though because he dresses well and takes care of himself some people will assume he is gay but he doesn't mind because he knows it's mainly because of his fashionable clothes and not acting like a complete 'lad' all the time

Personally I wouldn't be that keen on my boyfriend putting polish on his nails unless we were dressing up for fancy dress or for a laugh as punks or something - I've buffed his nails to look smarter before though. If you wanna do it though, why not? It makes you different from other people :D

Men should buff, metros should use clear polish, and women anything including color. Guys getting a french manicure happens all the time but it isn't accepted mainstream. Sissies may should have a french manicure and I've sent my hubby for one several times. He is soooooooooo "pretty" with them and it's fun with strangers, not for family/friends.

I see nothing wrong with men wanting pretty nails. I'm male, and I have 10 beautifully fabulous nails. They're natural, mine and gorgeous. I do get manicures on a regular basis, and my manicurist loves doing my nails. She told me that she has never seen a man with beautiful nails like mine. I wear colored nail polish all of the time. I'm not gay either.

Well said.

I've been getting my nails professionally manicured for the past 5 years. I have a manicure about every two to three weeks, and I love having it done. It's very relaxing, and I like my nails to look really nice. I get a lot of compliments. I wear my nails very long (for a guy) - about 8-10mm past the fingertip - and I have them finished in a clear glossy polish as part of my manicure. Between manicures I clean them myself twice daily and apply OPI Nail Envy (gloss or matt, depending on my mood) as strengthener every other day. Having my nails done makes me feel really good about myself and gives me confidence.

Oh, and I'm straight, too.

Well, call me crazy (oops, too late, I already did) but I think guys with long nails are hottt, and if they're wearing polish, so much the better!

I say go for it. Ignore the judgemental, tight-as*ed responses. Do what you feel. It's your life, and it's the only one you have. Make the most of it!

You're probably aware that Hard Candy made a line of nail polishes aimed at guys called Candy Man. The colors were generally metallic shades that looked kind of like car finishes, and had names like Testosterone and Super Man. It looks like they've discontinued it now, cuz it's not listed on their website anywhere, so I guess it was an idea ahead of its time.

Good question. I googled it and found some articles, but nothing that said exactly when Hard Candy launched the line, or when it was discontinued, or why. But I think they might have started the product maybe five years ago, give or take.

One article did mention that guys like Quentin Tarantino, Lenny Kravitz, Tommy Lee and Antonio Bandaras all wore it. Way cool. The number of guys here and in other forums that seem to like to polish their nails would indicate that it's a big market, so it's baffling that they would have pulled the line.

Depends on the overall look. Black nails on goths and metallers, no problem; but colors like pretty pink could get you into a few fights (which you might consider fun, that's up to you). Bottom line is, if you look tough you can get away with painted nails, earrings, bangles, most things almost anywhere. If you look girly then there are places you might not want to go.
