hi all can you help. some sites i go on and click on a link, the egg timer just freezes and wont allow me to do anything except click on the red cross in top right hand of the screen, which brings up a box saying end programme. when I end programme I am kicked off line and have to start all over again. its very annoying. I downloaded Anti virus and think it may be linked to that not allowing pop ups??? can you suggest what I can do about this. cheers CP22

Not allowing popups is pretty unlikely as most sites now understand that popup windows are a bad user experience (ie people don't like them). It'll probably be something else although your antivirus probably is still to blame...

To add to plasticann's questions -

Did it work before you installed the antivirus?
Which antivirus program did you install (XP Antivirus 2008 by any chance?)

What caused you to install the antivirus now? (ie was it an ad on a website, did you change antivirus products, was it a new machine)

Can I add a bit too?
I'm also puzzled when you say you downloaded antivirus . It wasn't, as mono has already asked, because some site said your computer was infected so download this program now was it?

Assuming the antivirus you downloaded is OK, did you update it and run a scan afterwards?

One more thing - you aren't running two active antivirus programs and the same time are you?

press ctrl alt and delete and goto processes and see how many are running if there are loads and some strange or garbelled names ones then you have spyware or viru's installed or both sucking up system performance
