I did get the paddle myself quite a few times. I’ve forgotten exactly how many. This was 30 years ago now. My first paddling was about age 11, and my last was at 16. And yes, it hurt like hell. The typical American high school paddle is a savage instrument, and the one used at my school was no exception. Your bottom felt virtually on fire after the first couple of swats. Over here they used to use the cane or the "slipper" (actually a plimsoll, with a rubber sole) but normally only on boys. At my school if a pupil misbehaved enough to be sent to the Headmaster it didn't matter whether they were a boy or girl or how old they were they would still get their bottom smacked from him.
