I have peed several times in public when desperate but always when it was dark and in a quiet place. It is not so easy when it is daylight. I was caught out about three years ago. Absolutely bursting on the way home I found the public loo which I thought would be my salvation had been closed. I am ashamed to say that I ended up wetting my knickers.

There's absolutely nothing to be ashamed in that, Ruth. I just wish more people were open and honest about doing it. :D

It really is dreadful that pressure on local council spending (UK) has meant that they cut back on cleaning, maintenance and even the opening of public toilets. A friend of mine lives in the West Midlands. A few years ago the main (Unitary) Council closed all public toilets in an effort to save money. They did so without warning. It was outrageous, people were unable to relieve themselves and businesses such as hotels, pubs, restaurants and café’s, whilst sympathetic to the problem, had to take steps to stop non-customers using their facilities.

The local Town Council were not consulted and were unable to do anything within their existing budget, as they were not informed in time. They did step in the next year but at a quite high cost. All that has happened of course is that the Unitary Authority have held their tax level down by withdrawing the service and obliging the Town Council to pick it up. Unfortunately the cost is quite substantial to the Town Council who have a budget of only £300,000 a year compared to the Unitary budget of £30 Million. This, combined with problems of vandalism and sexual “activity” means that the toilets are only open from 8am until 6pm. So, when the pubs and clubs decant their patrons in the early hours of the morning (courtesy of Labour’s 24-hour drinking culture) to be met by unlicensed burger bars and the like, anyone “caught short” has no-where to relieve themselves except in shop doorways or alleys. Not nice for the shopkeepers the next morning is it?

Anyway. There’s my rant. Anyone agree that the situation is unacceptable?

Peeing in Public

There is a similar problem here. Due to excessive vandalism, drug users using washrooms for their habit, and other problems most washrooms in parks and so on have been removed. In Longview there are no public washrooms in the city parks. I have had to be creative when needing a pee in the parks.
On a rural highway near the elk reserve there is a park that had a washroom but it has been removed. Fortunatly there is a creek behind some bushes that I pee in when there. I just back over the water after getting my skirt up and panties down and pee in the water. I use TP and toss it in the creek too.

No-one should have to resort to peeing in the woods, doorways or alleys. It should be a basic human right to have clean, safe public toilets available - free of charge - everywhere. Shall we start a political movement?

I totally agree with you AnnaKay because with me having a bladder problem, which is I randomly get the strong urge to pee I need to know that there is a toilet around when I need it.

Yes, it is unacceptable for a society that likes to consider itself as civilised.

I dont think that most people would mind a charge of 20p or so, if it meant the council could employ a cleaner/attendant who would make sure the toilets did not become infested with drunks and druggies. After all, none of us are getting any younger and bladder weakness seems to increase with age.

Why should cafe and pub owners provide facilities for the general public who have no intention of spending any money there? I'm sure they have the utmost sympathy for people who are caught short, but this should not be used as an excuse for local authorities to cut their finances by closing conveniences.

I completely agree about public loos. In some parts of the UK they seem to be an endangered species. Like Ruth74 I had the unhappy experience of finding a loo closed and wetting my knickers. While I agree also about dirty facilities, they do seem to be generally cleaner than they used to be. I remember being out with my mother when she was desperate once. We found an open loo but she came straight out again. She said it was so disgistingly filthy that she would rather burst than go there. We hurried on towards home but unfortunately she wet herself before we got there. As a teenager, I remember being rather embarrassed at my mum wetting her knickers. Now I would be sympathetic.

I think that closures of public toilets by local authorities may have lot to do with their having by law to provide disabled facilities. Therefore, because of cost they have taken the decision to close some of them altogether rather than break the law. What I am about to say next is in no way directed at those who are disabled but it is another example whereby the majority in this country find themselves dictated to by a small minority.

I know a location that has 2 unisex toilets. One is for the disabled , but can only be used if you have the key. So people are forced to queue up for the one toilet.

Local councils have got away with closing public toilets simply because people are too embarrassed to complain about needing a toilet. We all pee etc.. So let your local council know if the facilities they provide are inadequate.

I was in the local pub when you posted this, but - rest assured - I will strive to accept everyone's urine (attractive females only, of course) on a recurring basis. Unfortunately I don't 'do' solids. Not a chance, I'm afraid! No amount of money and/or persuasion will alter my 'stance'. Just the wee for me. 8)
