During that time I have noticed the age of the girls getting their ears pierced is getting younger and the number of boys getting their ear / ears pierced is increasing. On a typical Saturday and Sunday we probably pierce 20 people on each day, I guess normally half or so are girls aged between 3 and 10, 5 or 6 boys of varying ages and maybe 2 or 3 men. We very rarely do any adult women, I guess they are already pierced. The one thing I really hate is when mothers bring in their babies to be pierced, apart from the fact that is a little bit cruel to inflict such procedure on baby, its also very difficult to get their ears even because babies move all the time.
The best thing about doing the ear piercing is to see the childrens faces when they see themselves in the mirror for the first time with their earrings in place.
I think children wearing earrings is just the cutest thing possible.

What a wonderful thread! I recently had both my lobes pierced and was happy as can be to find this thread. It is not only full of 411 embeded in the messaged but wonderfully comforting in some odd way.
I didn't get my ears pierced at Claire's I got them pierced at a locla Tatoo and piercing place via the wonderfully sweet owner with a hallow point needle. It took me awhile to finally chose the gold ball studs (almost went with the diamond studs). I figured they went well with my blond (reallly blond almost white blond but stil golden). I am looking at some nifty hoop and ball earrings for after my six weeks.
Anywyas, Glad to meet yall and I will stop by here soon to see what's happening.

In our store we have two ear piercing stations and i am one of four assistants that have been trained for ear piercing that will be on duty at the weekend. We usually work in pairs so we can pierce both ears simultaneously. Obviously this is important with younger children because if you do one at a time they have one ear done and them refuse to have the second one done. I saw this happen once at my hairdressers, a little girl about 5 years old had one ear pierced realized that it hurts a bit and then refused to have the other one done. The mother and child were both really upset and the child left with one earring.
In response to Guests comments, yes it is becoming very popular now for males to have earrings especially younger boys coming in with their mothers to have both ears pierced. It does seem to be a very popular birthday present for girls and boys of the age of about 5 - 9 years. I think having your ears pierced is a really nice birthday present for anyone.

I just wanted to say that it’s great to see so much support for boys and men who want to wear earrings. I’ve been struggling for years to make the decision to get my ears pierced. Back at school in London during the 80’s many of my friends got their left ear pierced – first once, then those more courageous added one or two more while, due to circumstances, all I could do was watch. I remember one of my best friends coming to school one day with three earrings in his left ear and one in his right that he had done all at once. I was so envious and I still wish I could have done the same or even beaten him.
Over the years I worried about what my partner or people at work might say but now I’m in my early thirties, a freelancer and in-between relationships and the time couldn’t be more right. I agree with many of you when you say that it’s nicer for men to get their both ears pierced. I am planning to get my ears pierced this weekend at least once in each ear to start with and later I might go for more.
