how to get out of a wedding invite

Postby reluctant relative on Wed Aug 30, 2006 2:43 pm

is there a polite wy to get out of going to a wedding, that i had previously said i would attend?

since agreeing, money has become very tight- not sure if i could afford to stay ivernight anywhere, or even get a train back the same day (out in the sticks)..

It depends how long it is before the wedding. If it is a long way off then it's best just to be honest. If it is soon, then it may be difficult as the couple have probably paid for your meal etc. Could you share the cost with another reletive?

Hi there,

Ask the bride if you can attend the evening only...

then fake illness...........blame hubbie/child/babysitter.

babysitter is good choice...say she backed out last minute and anyone else you knew were all at the wedding lol.

Can't go; Can't afford it. It's honest and straight to the point.

Say you have to attend a funeral. That'll do it...
