that you're talking about it at all is a good start. many artists are by temperment shy. this time spent alone or with their interior dialogue is what allows them to absorb, observe and transform that experience into interpretive creation. you're also young and all this boy-girl stuff is confusing (for everyone your age.... and for many much older too), so don't worry too much. imagine you're on an adventure and have to learn a foreign language so that you can communicate with the natives. the hardest part of learning a new language is losing your natural protective inhibition of falling on your face and looking rediculous. fact is, you're gonna fall on your face and occasionally look rediculous. find some comfort in the knowledge that no one escapes this. the good news is that once this happens a few dozen times you come to realize that you won't shrivel up and blow away. you will learn how to learn from your mistakes or mis-steps, pick yourself up and find ever more creative ways to seem rediculous ( this eventually loses it's usefulness and THEN you can really have some fun simply being who you are). ever thought about why they're called baby steps? you didn't learn to ride a bicycle the first time out without a few skinned knees, right? same concept. relax, just be yourself, know that it won't always be poetry and trust that the good people you choose to be your friends will be going throught the same stuff and understand. oh, and don't forget to have fun.
