Menopause and menstruation come from 'menses', the Latin plural for "month". Mental comes from pre-historical "men-", i.e. "to think". 'Guy'necology comes from "gyne", the Greek for "woman". I don't know of any English accent that makes hysterectomy start with "his", as opposed to "hiss".
