Hi Ladies, I've just been reading through these posts and am now grateful that I have. I had the implant done in May this year as my doctor suggested it's an easier way than the Depo injection that I used to get every 3 months. I have also put on weight - about 5 to 7 kg's, not sure what that is in stone, sore boobs, no bleeding thank god, but very tired all the time - i thought it was just the flu as i had the implant done in winter! We plan on trying for kids at the end of next year, but no-one seems to know what time I should get the implant out. My main reason for going off the Depo was that it can take up to 2 years to get out of your system, but other than that I found it to be great (as long as you don't mind an injection every 3 months). If we weren't planning on having kids I'd definately be back on the Depo.

I went and asked at the clinic whether i could make an appointment to have the implanon removed, after having it replaced less than 2 weeks ago. She said it's doubtful as they cost £100 each. I think this is unfair and want to complain as you have them put in on the premise you can have it removed whenever you want... especially if it is causing you undue stress. I felt rushed and just agreed with the nurse. I had questions prepared and was debating getting another one. My original one wasn't even due out until 10/10/08 so by then i would have decided to have it removed, but they offered me an appointment the day i rang (i was trying to phone a month in advance!!)

Tonight i have an appointment with the lady who put it in... probably... I'm going to tell her my side effects, why i no longer want it, that i wasn't properly consulted before it was put in, and if she refuses, i'll tell her the truth... that if she doesn't take it out - i will.

Implanon

Postby Mell on Thu Oct 09, 2008 10:00 am

When i first got the implanon put in about 1 year and 2 months ago. out of the first 5 months i had it in, i was on for 4 of them. My periods have become so irregular and the cramps seem to be getting worse and worse each time. My moods are constantly up and down and its affecting my life in a major way. I have gone from a size 10/12 to a size 16/18 in the space of about a year. It depresses me so much as i have had alot of trouble when i was young about my weight. I lost it all and now i am going back to it. I have got a clicky hip at the moment and i am wondering if it could be because of the implanon now from reading all of these comments. I have massive cravings too of chocolate and sweet things which i didnt have before. I constantly feel tired no matter how much i sleep.
The only thing that has stopped me from getting it out is the fact i hate needles and i was brave enough to get it put in but because i know how that was i am scared to get it taken out now.
Does it feel as sore as it does after its been put in??

Hi Katwoman3, i know how you feel! I've had the implanon in for 14 months now, and for the first 6/9 months i was having spotting for the first week then a proper period the second week, sometimes normal, sometimes heavy. Then 2 weeks later the same would happen all over again. I know i've put on well over a stone but as i'm not in the habit of weighing myself dont know the exact weight. I've also cut down on my eating and have gone to bums tums and thighs classes and nothing has shifted. My periods have changed since Jul/Aug and gone back to normal once a month but again i'm not regular and find i get tired and ratty more now than when i had it inserted. I do want to have it taken out but not sure what to do next. I keep asking my partner to have snip as it's easier than me being sterilised. I've got my 2 children and don't want anymore (2 old) i had implanon inserted for that reason, being in my early 40's that was my best option, although i've always been against putting chemicals in my body i thought 3 yrs shud be ok! My fella and i are discussing our options but for the time being i will keep it in.[/img]

Hi Ladies..

I Agree With So Many comments On Here.
I had My Impant Inserted In March 08, And have had So Much trouble Since. Im NEVER Off My Period, its A Constant Thing Aswell as The Cramps. Which Affects Sex Life Very Badly.
Bad Temper..Bad mood swings, and I Seem To bTake It Out On The People Closest To me. Im Considering Getting It Taken out Because Its Causing So Much stress. I Cant Even Have Sex. The Reason It Was Put There!!! I Dont even feel like having any sex. where as before the implant i did.

Everything has been ruined by this lttle bugger.

but im realy scared to get it taken out because i heard that the lady has to cut your arm open..and you have really bad bruising and scars and stuff..

any handy advice..?
Thank you..x

Being removed

Postby Guest in Oz on Sat Oct 11, 2008 9:13 am

Hi,

I am about to have my impant removed and I have had it in for 18 months. I have had no problems whatsoever with the impkant. I had been on the Depo injection for approx 5 years previous to this and with the impland and the injection I have never had any bleeding whatsoever! To be honest it has been great. I have gained weight, but I never even considered the implant - mmmmm. I am having the implant removed as I now want a child. I am 40 and have never had a child as yet, so I am somewhat concerned that I can actually concieve!?!? Has anyone been in a similar position to me?

I need some reassurance here! I had the implant put in 3 years ago in June and i am having it taken out in 2 weeks, like 4 months since it was supposed to last 3 years. Does it keep working till i have it taken out cuz in august i had sex.
I havnt had a period for like 2 years and my tummys got really bad pains recently at the moment could this be down to "getting back to normal" i dont think i could be pregnant because i have no other symptoms.

I do need to some reassurance if anyone could give me adivce??

You lot are scaring me! I just got it put in today. didn't really mean to, went into the clinc to talk about the different options, kinda thinking I would want the implant, and the nurse kinda rushed me into a decision. The nurse did lie to me though, I asked if it makes you moody, and she said no. Don't think it's that common though - I'm hoping that it's just a case of only the people with problems are going to be researching this, and the ones who are fine are too busy having worry-free sex to write about it in forums!

implant removal

Hi in response to anyone worried about having their implant removed I think it depends on who does it, Ive had mine out after 9mths of bleeding, hot flushes, dizzyness, low mood and tiredness I was only imformed about the possible bleeding/low mood nothing else and I also had back pain which even now the doctor refuses to accept that was down to the implant! anyway having it removed is pretty much the same as when its put in,they numb the area make a small cut and take it out. If im being honest it wasnt pleasent for me I did have a lot of brusing and a hole that took a couple of weeks to heal it still hurts inside I have the sensation thats its still in my arm im sure that will go! i do think I was just unlucky thats all Im sure you will all be fine. best wishes

I've read that the reason for this rule is because if you've had unprotected sex, the sperm can live for a while, therefore even after a week there could be a chance of pregnancy as straight after the removal of the implant your fertility returns to normal!
Hope this helps...

Also an update on me.
Had the implant out on 8/10/08, so far healing is going well. My moods have perked up a bit... I actually get a bit hyper now (feeling youthful once again)... Things are returning to normal bit by bit... I've just finished my first period since removal (I came on the day i wanted it out!).
It's not that scary... and i had it done by a lady who disagreed with my reasons for wanting it out, I was scared she'd hurt me out of spite, but it was not too bad as i said.

this is my second implant....had my first one put in when i was 18 and i've never had any bother with it in the slightest! for the first 2 years i had regular periods but they where very light and short which i was happy with, the third year they started to get a bit heavier just like a normal period and when i had my new implant in they have stayed the same throughtout.

i'm hoping that when i have this implant out in april that my cycle will be normal and i'll be able to get pregnant quite quickly....fingers crossed!

i had my implant removed in July '08 after 12 months of pain, i was bleeding for 9 weeks solid at one point and i decided enough was enough, at 18 years old i have now decided i want a baby for some silly reason, my periods have not returned to normal i don't know when i am supposed to come on going by the 'norm' which is 28 days i am now overdue according to my last one, since having the implant out my moods have returned to normal i have lost 2 stone and feel far better although it bloody hurt having it out as my local anaesthetic didn't work
