Up until now, our kids have generally slept in PJs/nighties, but after the hot summer we've had here in the UK, DH and I don't have any issue with them sleeping nude. After the first couple of really hot nights, we told them that they were now old enough (girls 9 and 7, boy 5) to choose what to wear to bed each night, provided the choice was from PJs/nighties, underwear or birthday suits. Jeans and school uniform were most definitely out. On the first night, with bedroom temperatures well over 25, our recommendation of birthday suits was universally and enthusiastically taken up and despite the cooler nights recently, nobody has even considered either of the other two options. Playground gossip during the first couple of weeks of the new school term suggests that our youngsters weren't the only ones introduced to the benefits of sleeping nude this summer, and bedtime conversations, with our older daughter in particular, suggest that lots of households, ours included, will soon be donating unwanted childhood nightwear to the next jumble sale. The funny thing is that DH and I have been sleeping in the nude since long before we were married, and have never made any secret of this as far as the children are concerned, yet not one of us has ever questioned why the children dressed for bed and we didn't!
