Sumer, in modern day Iraq, was the first city - existing 3,500 years ago. Sumerian cuneiform emerged as the world's first writing system - it evolved but continued to be used by various inhabitants over 3,000 years.

The civilisation of Ancient Greeks, the Minoans, were close - traced to 3650BC. They were thought to be pre-indo-european people. They fell to the Mycenaean Greece, a warrior aristocracy, by about 1600 BC. A presumed Dorian invasion, though not proved, put Greece into a dark ages between 1200 to 800BC, where literacy was scant. Homer and the greek alphabet appear from 800BC. Greek civilisation undoubtably had a tremendous impact on western civilisation.

They even went as far as to call the areas of Lebanon that were going to be attacked to tell residents to flee before the attack begins. Those who stayed were clearly supporters of the Hezbollah movement, and under international law Israel took every precaution to prevent civilian casualties. You need to do more homework before you just come _ preaching a bit of your anti-war garbage.

Actually good sir, I believe it is YOU who needs to do their proper homework. I read your post and laughed at your blatant bias. Know that I'm a 48 caucasian male residing in Canada and am by no means racist or biassed towards a race, but the truth must be told.

You should understand that Israel did that for a VERY good reason... and no, it wasn't to be "diplomatic" A little something called Psychological Warfare, anyone? Days before they bombarded those specific locations, Israeli planes flew over the area and dropped hundreds of papers which said "Leave now or you will be bombed" In hopes of instilling fear within the Lebanese people. Would you like to know the reason? Cowardice. The Israeli army has always been known for its cowardice (Children with rocks vs. Soldiers in tanks, tanks retreating) They figured that if they raised this psychie and toyed with people's minds, they'd have much less resistance. Evidently most defied the Israeli warning and casualties occurred on both sides. If someone came to your house and threatened you and told you to leave, would you just run away like a coward? Don't pass judgement on others like that because they are different.

So please, next time you want to say something, make sure you're not brainwashed by Western media - evidently controlled by Israeli propaganda.

It's cowardice to retreat when kids pelt you with rocks and bottles, when you're driving a tank? You have an interesting take on bravery and cowardice Richard. The rest of the post is just as interesting.
