Dying dark brown hair to blonde

Postby Guest on Thu May 20, 2004 1:22 am

I KNOW it's possible to dye dark hair to blonde. My hair is naturally dark brown. Last time I bleached it and it was dry and scratchy, but only for a couple of days. Now my hair is dark brown again (I dyed it back) and I want to dye it blonde again, but I think I'll wait a couple of months, just to be safe. Anyway, this time should I dye it to red first, then wait a couple of weeks and lighten the red?

That sounds like an awful lot of dyeing!

Thought too much dyeing can make the hair brittle and then it will snap.

That's what I'm saying. My hair was brittle for a couple of days, but after I shampooed and conditioned it (you have to wait about 48 hours after you dye it), it was fine.

How long has it been since you last bleached it? to go blonde again you'll have to bleach it again and I think that'd be a big mistake if it hasn't all grown out 1st. You may end up with all your newly blonde hair in your brush instead of on your head!!

My advice is to leave it alone until it all grows out. Too much processing is really bad for it and if you're doing it yourself with drug store products it's even worse. They're harsher than what they use at the salon.

Had black hair .. used to be brown naturally but dyed it so many times it built up to darker than black. got fed up so stuck a highlighter on that promised to lift all colour from hair..... it worked to a degree from neutralia and left my hair a strawberry blonde and in better condition than ever before... can recommend it .. give it a go but dont expect nordic blonde you wont get it first time lol

I've tried dying my hair myself a few times as a stop gap measure but I tend to let my hairdresser do it now - it costs but the results are so much better and longer lasting.

Hi, if you go to superdrug and get one of those 99p sachets of Light Ash Blonde it really helps calm down yellowy blonde (and it works cos I had to it myself after a bad bleach experience!).

Hope that helps.

Flipping the script..Going from BLONDE to BROWN

Postby DruHill on Wed Sep 01, 2004 4:08 am

Well Well Well I KNOW it's possible to go from Blonde to brown..of course. I mean that's like having a yellow crayon and taking a brown crayon to color over it..EASY PROCESS. ((hence the other one would be taking a brown crayon and trying to make the yellow crayon go over it... ..heh)) Yeee...but let me fill you in on what's been going on in the life of my hair.
I'm gonna try to put dates on here THE BEST I CAN REMEMBER!
EARLYJULY: *had roots touched up blonde*
1 WEEK LATER IN JULY: *roots were too yellow, so she dyed my hair back dark brown...claimed it was "coffee bean"...yeah..if that's what they are starting to call BLACK!*
GETTING LATER INTO JULY: *start flipping out b/c I don't have the blonde nemore and resort to many products from Sally's...<<One 'N Only color lift, blonde preference hair dye...NONE WORKED>>
EARLY AUGUST: *i go to a pRoFesSioNal..who restores me back to blonde. MIRACLE WORKER!!!....yee but it was spotchy...*
AUGUST 13: *he fixes it...puts light brown streaks in it...and tones it out for me.
TODAY (August 31): *im a confused little girl who has hair probably 2 inches past my collarbone....with medium breakage...my hair is one length, but has the effect of layers with the breakage.. :P ...definitely not funny, but it can be to some 8) ANYWHO...

I'm considering seeing my aunt at her shop tomorrow and seeing what she thinks about me going back dark. The only reason I am considering this is because my hair is pretty damaged..heh....After reading that I'm sure you agree. Darker hair has a tendency to portray itself as being *MORE HEALTHY*..and *THICKER* looking..two options that I wouldn't mind having!!! Yeah, but I wouldn't go back to a so called "coffee bean" I'd go for a medium brown ... and most likely would have to get red undertones or else I may come out as a mean green brown machine!...Icky poo!

Roots are coming by the way, so that is another reason going dark is for the better. Girls let me tell you...Natural is better. Natural is healthier, and freak what other people think...It's about what's best for you. And after finally realizing that, that is the main reason I want my natural hair color back. :D

Highlighters

Postby Bella on Wed Sep 01, 2004 11:36 pm

I guess I am really ignorant, but I thought highlighters were used as a form of hair dying - not lightening - Medevilbabe, how can I get my hands on those kinds of highlighters? I'de really like to try them...

I may be wrong but I believe medievelbabe was regarding to a "Color Lift" which lifts any hair color dye that you may have on your hair and restores it to what is underneath it...or to a very lighter color. Results vary on that though..when I used it, it took me back to a orangish strawberry blonde...predominantly orange though..and they are tricky .. you can sneak back to dark hair over night if that is the hair color you naturally have.

hi i read all that stuff that you guys were recommending about dying your brown hair to become a blone.
well i just want my natural color back which is some kind of dark dirty blonde...i have been dying my hair for a long time now but only have two colors over my natural color right now....let it grow out and stuff....the other day i was at sallys beauty and they had something called one n only color fix....now im wondering if that would work for me...
i tried to get blonde hair before but always ended up neon orange...horrible like a light version of bozo the clown.
cant anybody help me find whats best for me...i mean i dont wanna run around like a clown again and have me collegues look at me funny cause i didnt have time to dye over it again.
so please let me know
thanks
