today i had decided to get my hair dyed ash blonde, but after reading this forum i totally changed my mind.
Right now i have my natural brown hair grown out, and all these cries for help reminded me of the time i got my hair professionally done, and my roots were bright orange.
There is obviously a reason why there are so many people asking for help here, and so little people offering iit.
We should just change the rules ... brunettes should have more fun!

am i correct in thinking that a medium/dark blonde dye wont darken pre-lightened hair? only a toner will do this?

Well, to all you ladies that want platinum hair, go for it. im a natural blonde and i mean WHITE blonde and ive had every color in the book, and i HAVE gone from black to platinum about 3 times over a period of 2 years. talk about damage. yes, to all of you who want to know if your hair will turn orange when you bleach it from brown or black to blonde, it WILL turn orange. but, my best advice, its to slowly make it blonde, try putting chunks of blonde all over, so when you do your whole head, alot of parts will be platinum. OR if you want platinum asap, well, go to sallys, BUY A TONER with your bleach and get a 40 volume, and also buy the BLUE SHAMPOO! sallys will know what youre talking about if you ask them that. and over 3 washes, thatll get your hair pretty blonde. i have red hair as i speak and im going back to platinum today. yikes! oh, and you blondes, DONT BUY BED HEAD DUMB BLONDE shampoo and conditioner, it doesnt make your hair softer. but, use maynaise once a week, and put olive oil in your hair BEFORE washing it. and try not to wash your hair everyday, do it once a week. you need those natural oils ladies.

DYING HAIR FROM DARK BROWN TO BLONDE

Postby Guest on Sun Apr 29, 2007 1:12 am

TRUST ME IT IS ACTUALLY FAIRLY SIMPLE.
I DYED ONLY THE BOTTOM LONG STRANDS OF MY HAIR WHICH I HAD PREVIOUSLY DYED NIGHT BEFORE DARK BROWN TO BLONDE SO EASILY!
I WAS SICK OF THE LONG BITS BEING DARK SO I USED A PRE LIGHTENER HIGHLIGHTER AND LEFT IT ON FOR ABOUT TWO HOURS. I THEN DYED ON TOP WITH NORMAL BLONDE DYE FOR AN HOUR.
AND IT WAS A LOVELY BLONDE.

!!! AM GONNA TRY THIS ON MY ENTIRE HAIR NOW :D

THIS CAN BE DONE!!!

[color=red]ok so i did this today actually. Previously i had very dark brown hair, becoz i died it black a very while back, in my younger teenage years. ive been waiting more than 6 months to lighten it, so today i bleached my whole hair with 'priceline' brand blue bleach...it went very light orange of course...and then i redyed it with loreal preference with the shade 'Copenhagen Ash blonde'. i cannot explain the results... ive ended up with light brown/blonde hair and feeling smooth and healthy even after straightening...so maybe this is good advice, becoz in a few weeks i am planning on putting blonde streaks thru it, and hopefully they turn out blonde and not orange. going blonde is a process and of course your going to go a bit orange, but these few steps i have done, should make it easier to cope with the orange tones of dying dark to blonde. I suggest to those girls/ladies wanting to change there dark hair colour to wait it out a few months and then slowly make the transition to being a blonde. & also another point to those people who say we;re going blonde becoz blondes have more fun, more attention etc... thats totally untrue, i think i can speak for all of the females here, when i say we're simply doing it for change, becoz thats what women love right!!! :D
i'll attach the URL or some pics taken a few weeks ago of my dark hair and then a pic of my hair today!

ok so i've died my hair alot, i'm naturally blonde but being an alternative person i've died it several times, the last three colours i had were brown, then red, and then i died over it using black but i really want it white blonde...and i mean white blonde!

i've used *B Blonde high lift pre lighterner* and then went a yellowey orange colour (i only did a section to see how well it lifted then went over it with a temporary bright coloured green (24 washes thing)) so i know i can get the black out with a pre lightener it's just not a fab colour...i don't want to go yellow so i don't think i should use bleach should i?

i've heard of manic panics flash lightening kit, does any one know if this is a good product? or does any one know how else i can go white blonde?

and please don't give me any salon nonsense...i'm a pooooor student and have my limits! i can buy dies and stuff from shops but im not having repeat proceadures at the hair dressers!

dying from dark brown to blonde...

Postby ntriusldg on Thu Jul 12, 2007 8:02 pm

Ok ladies. I just finished school at Aveda Institute so what I have to say is reputable... dying your hair from dark brown to blonde is not an easy task and should definitely not be something you do on your own. GO TO A PROFFESSIONAL!!! Then they will determain if your hair will be able to "survive" the process. First, they will BLEACH the hair (which will most likely leave it brassy) Therefore they will have to STRIP it next (this will get that brassiness out- leaving it very blonde) Lastly, if your looking for a certain color or colors, they will DYE it that single color you want or FOIL whatever number of colors you want on your hair. This process could take quite a while because your hair may need rest between these stages to stay healthy. So, just a forwarning, you may be stuck with a brassy head of hair or super blonde locks for up to a couple of weeks before you achieve the actual color you are looking for. But believe me, it is possible :D

my hairs absoultuly wrecked from hair dye, i hate it. my hairs naturally dark brown, and its had blonde highlights, all red, all dark brown, all black, back to blonde highlights.. then after a good 5 month i dyed it black, and ive dyed it a canny 5 times black.
i want to go back blonde, like all blonde,
my hairs to my neck, not very long at all, i want a 60's mod cut, blonde ofcourse, but i dont know wether to dye it or not.
should i go brown first, then get blonde highlights?
or just let it grow out? im sick of it, and want a change.
any ideas?

im brown and wna go back to my natural colour blonde, how???

Postby lilo on Wed Aug 01, 2007 7:45 pm

basically im a chestnut brown now and my natural colour's a strawberry blonde. i have tried using blonde hair dyes to get me back but it just doesnt work, now the roots are showing and it looks pretty bad. i want to go back to my blonde colour again or lighter blonde without bleaching it as it ruins the hair. i was considering using a hair lightener but i have heard rumors that some people end up going ginger, which i dont want to do. hair dressers are too expensive. was wondering if anyone has any advice? be very much appreciated :) thank u

LiLu wrote:L'oreal has "Excellence Hicolor" its for dark hair only, you can buy shades of blondes. So i would recommend that if you want to lighten up your dark locks.

I recently (a few days ago) used the lightest shade this line offers; I believe it was a "Cool Light Brown". I used it on my DARK brown hair which is my natural color, but recently it's been my "dyed" color since I"ve had so many highlighting mishaps. Although it warns and suggests AGAINST using the product on previously dyed hair (Dark Brown hair dye), I used it anyways and it turned out great. If you've got dark brown hair and are wanting to lighten it up a bit, either to keep it a few shades lighter, or to prepare for even higher lightening, then HiCOLOR for Brunettes from L'oreal is PERFECT.

hi guys/girls, i am a hairdresser myself, and it really annoys me the way people say its impossible to go blonde if u have dark hair,,, its not!!! i have dark brown hair naturally, like really dark brown and i have white blonde hair!!!, it just takes ALOT of patience! if you have virgin hair (no colour on it whatsoever) it shouldnt be to much of a problem and you should be able to get it a nice blonde colour after about 3 weeks, 1 application of bleach a week, NEVER more, you may need a ash/champagne blonde toner but these are easy enough to get hold of from you local superstore/pharmacy.

If, however you do have color on your dark hair, the best thing to do it try and grow as much of the colour out as possible, If you are unpaitient like me, you need to find the HIHGEST level of peroxide you can find which is usually no higher than 5% in shops, the best thing you can do is go either to a salon and get the job done proffesionally, or go to a hairdresser supplier such as sallys or aston&fincher where u can buy peroxide in more levels, 6%, 9%, 12%. 12 being the blondest. this however can be EXTREMELY damaging to your hair, in extremes the hair can get so damaged there is literally no other way to repair the damage apart from cutting it off and growing it back again.

Another product you should try and get your hands on before dying your hair ANY colour but espescially blonde, is a 'perosity evener' these are basically just little does of a creamy liquid that you work through dry hair before colouing it, they even out the perosity so you dont get patchy results such as ginger in parts and blonde in others, you just get one colour all over, these can only really be bought in higly reputable salons such as toni&guy and are usually no more than $5.00.

Good Luck... and remember...

dont put a red dye thru it first because the red pigment will make it turn orange copper color when you try to lighten it, probly the best thing i have learnt from all my hair dying experiences is just to get it done prosfessionaly especailly when dealing with bleach. = ) hope it all turns out good.
