Sometimes Work Just Sucks

So I have been mulling over this file for a couple of days now. A family is in dire straits; husband and wife both worked for same company, they closed up and moved out of the country, of course all pension and benefits went bye bye....three kids, and house, car, and utilities. They take whatever work comes their way, including day labor, and have to decide whether to feed the kids or pay the mortgage. I have to decide whether to take away their car or let it slide. I get sob stories all day long, and they normally don't phase me, but I have seen these folks face to face, and they aren't lying. If I don't lower the boom, I'm setting a bad example in a lot of ways, and giving room for others to abuse the system. If I do lower the boom, I am going to hurt an already battered family in a crap republican economy. All this globalization S*** has got to end. If I go by the book, I grab the car, and lose the file to legal.....

What would you do?

Help the family... as long as you can do so without it affecting you. Sometimes a little compassion goes a long way

Thanks Karrin. I was dealt a strange hand today, as I pm'd you. The boss overheard a convo I was having with a coworker about them, and he swiped their file from my desk and took their car on his own decision. That threw me under the bus because I promised them nothing would happen til Monday. So I went to see them, and told them what happened and who did it. I also took my portable cassette player with me. Got them on tape saying that I wasn't to blame and that they appreciated all I tried to do for them. So Tape has my butt covered. In the meantime, I have taken the rest of the day off and dumped the responsibility for getting all the files to my buddies in legal....he gets to listen to them scream today. He also got his ass chewed out by his superior as the first complaint call already came in, and the big boss read the notes and promise I made in the computer, which are admissable in court.....there is no joy for his sorry carcass right now, and I got to return the favor of throwing him under the bus for putting the screws to me.

REVENGE...it's my middle name folks....I have a gift for dreaming ways to really bend one over a table and drive it home!
