I think the story is partly or totally bullshit. But if any of it is true, the reason they made fun of him is they don't respect him, probably because he is a malingerer or gay. The disrespect came first, then the racial taunts. If he were tall or short or thin or fat and earned the disrespect, they would taunt him for being tall or short or thin or fat. I can't believe the British Army is that openly racist. The U.S. Army is probably the most meritocratic, egalitarian government institution, unless you are gay. But the rules are known up front about gays in the military. Compare how the U.S. Army treated a Jamaican soldier: they promoted him to General, then to Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (the highest uniformed post in the country) and then he was appointed Secretary of State of the United States. I'm talking about Colin Powell.

I just wonder what the guy has to gain by making the story up. He will find it hard enough to corroborate even if every word of it is true, so why do so if it were totally false?

fair enough. My point is that something like this would have made a huge splash in the US. I'm not sure about the UK but I'm pretty sure something like this would have garnered a lot of attention. (After all it's a pretty sensational story)

But yeah, it don't know what good would it do for anyone to make this kind of thing up. Well, except the alleged victim since that means he can demand pretty good compensation for it if he can establish his case.

there was a major a few months ago who thought it ridiculous that black soldiers establish a trade union, because racism was "the way it is" in the british army. it was quite stunning.
