The real issue is whether certain long-term American domestic policies have led inexorably to the election of the current incumbent. He must surely be the worst US president in history and it has taken Americans seven years of his ineptitude to realise what the rest of the world already knew, even before he first got elected. He was never capable of doing any more than preying on the self-inflicted paranoia that besets the 29% (approx) of the US electorate who voted for him. What a sad and terrible indictment of American society that is.

It has been said that a nation gets the government that it deserves. However, I find it difficult to believe that Americans deserve the appalling mess that Bush will leave them in. May their god take pity on his successor.

Yep - there were a bunch of them before Christ. All based on pagan concepts, particularly referenced against astrology.

I think organized religion has been used to keep us doing things by rote, under a paternalistic form of control and thereby not reaching our full potential in terms of elevating our consciousness.

I think Jesus and the Essene/Samaritan background he came from, has much in common with the Mandaeans, the Buddhists and also Hinduism. They all see fasting and meditation as a path to enlightenment.

If you look past the dictates of any one religion, you will see that all religions come from the same core of ancient beliefs and the duality of light and dark. When such beliefs become organized and rigid, demanding conformity either violently or through fear, then what you have is a perversion of their message by those who desire to control the masses.
