The need to marry

Reading some posts here, i see that quite a few women see it as a necessity to marry and panic when it isn't to be seen on the horizon when in a relationship.

I do not relate.


So, help me out here. What exactly is so utterly important to you about marriage ? What do you expect from marriage that you do not get in a regular, loving and longterm (non marriage) relationship ?

P.S: This is not an anti marriage thread. It is a thread about wanting to understand the women who can't imagine living without marriage.

It seems that they are all fairly young women who write these (early-mid twenties). They usually mention about their friends getting engaged, married, so it's probably a mix of peer pressure/jealousy for them.

I admit, I'd like my sweetie to propose to me, and I'd say yes without a second thought. but if it doesn't happen, that's fine. We're perfectly happy just as we are!

I seem to recall atleast one of them being in their mid 30s. Would be interested to know, if it truly is all young women.

Thanks for the input of them mentioning their friends. Peer pressure is an interesting aspect.

one of my main reasons wanting to be married is because i would like the same name as my children when we have them, also i would like the dad to be able to have the same rights as me over the children (ie be able to give permission for the child to have a operation if heaven forbid they ever needed it which touch wood they wont).

Also my love for my partner is so strong that married is just something that i would love to do - i would like to be his wife, i would like to be called Mrs xxxxx

and the comment about them all being young, well i think that its cuz its at this time people start thinking about this.....being together for years and the time/age has come upon them.

can i ask guest.....are you married? have a partner?

Not married and have a longterm partner. Marriage is not an option at the moment but it's also not important to both of us (i'd say we consider ourselves married, just not on paper). We have a wonderful relationship that's going on strong (longer than most longterm relationships on here, i would believe).

Anyway, the question isn't about getting married or not (people can do as they please, i am not pro or anti marriage) but why some women literally freak out, if their partners don't propose etc. I'm quite shocked about many womens responses (not yours ).
