abuse at school

I am no doubt in the minority, I very often am. I was disciplined at home and School with Corporal Punishment. We got the Cane or Strap at school, and the Strap at home.

Having read these posts here I can not say that there are potential cases of what todays people would refer to as abuse. I can not say that certain Teaching Staff may have had so called perverted thoughts in administering it, I am not saying that kids should be held down and flogged mercilessly, but and it is a big but ! there is no getting away from the facts that there is no deterrant, Respect for people or property, or a pride in apperance or life in General.

For me, and God knows that I have had my share and then some, the threat of a Hiding was the deterrant. I got the Strap for everything from smoking to being Cheeky, it hurt like hell, and I cried like a baby, but it did not kill me. I remained respectful, and learned right from wrong. and lets face it, No one dies from it.

The world is crazy, and I think that this, so called Liberal everyone is equal, no one is responsible regime that has taken over our Society like a Malignant Cancer, should be over ruled. There should be penalties from wrong actions, and people should have the choice how kids are disciplined. There is a Gap as wide as a motorway is long between Abuse and Discipline, and these week backed individuals, some of who are elected to Governmentand the like should shut up, back off and allow the individual responsible to decide how kids are brought up.

Finally, my last rant here for today. If the laws about Parents being responsible for their Kids were as rigorously enforced as the threat of actions is they are found delivering the sort of Punishments I got, we would not have this as a debate.

When I think back to my school days I wonder if our Headmaster got away with murder. He was very strict and feared by all the girls because if we were in trouble and were sent to his office, he would smack our bottoms. I don't just mean a quick slap, we would actually have to bend ovr his lap and recieve a proper smacked bottom!

I know wonder if this was abuse or just normal for the time? Does anyone else here remember being punished like that at school in the late 70's early eighties?

I remember when they had the cane in our junior school and they phased it out luckily before we got to the 4th year.

There is an awful amount written about corporal punishment and the abuse of it at schools in the past.
There is a website http://www.corpun.com which gives a real factual history of corporal punishment all over the world.

From having read the newspaper artlcles on the website it is clear that boys did get the cane and slipper on the bottom quite regularly.
I am glad it was abolished in all schools in 1999 (ten years ago) in the U.K.
I think most boys in the U.K are glad corporal punishment has been abolished. For those boys who recieved it in the past my heart goes out to you.
The only thing corporal punishment teaches you is resentment.

A view from the other side, not as a teacher but a parent. I spanked my daughter when my wife and I considered it necessary, not a frequent occurence, it happened no more than five times in total. The routine was always the same; she pulled her own knickers down, then over my knee for enough slaps to make her cry (three was usually enough).

The last time was when she was fifteen. I decided she was too old to go over my knee and I wanted to avoid hand-to-bottom contact so she was required to bend over. There was an argument about whether she had bent over far enough but I then pulled her frock up and her panties down, another argument but I insisted they stayed down.

I then smacked her hard with the back of a long handled clothes brush. The first stroke brought a loud "Ow" from her; with the second she shot upright, clutching her rear and bawling. To my shame I then spoke the cliche "Bend over, we've barely started". She bent over again and I delivered the third stroke. This almost reduced her to hysterics but she remained in position waiting for the fourth.

But I suddenly realised that I was enjoying it. The fourth stroke never came, I told her to stand up and pull her pants up. And I never ever spanked her again.

From eight to twelve, "pants down" was to make sure that the spanking hurt. At thirteen and fifteen I thought I was using it to add humiliation to the punishment to persuade her that it wasn't worth risking a spanking in future. But now I'm not sure.

Fortunately for me my daughter, now middle-aged, has never held it against me and we are very close. She did tell me that the waiting for me to come up to the bedroom was the worst part.

I went a school in Seaford Sussex in the late sixties ,as an adult I live in Canada. I know if a Canadian had the experiences we had at that school the Headmaster and some of the teachers would have spent his old age in prison and " victims" would be seeking compensation etc .The headmaster used to supervise senior morning swim and that was a nude swim and I could recount so many times when he would give very inapropriate lectures alone with a studend in his study . He also used to check to see if we were wearing underwear under our sports gear by pulling the elastic waistband and peering down ! I myself look back at this and laugh and think what a looser this guy was with all his power to be so inadequate that he needed to get a high off kids rather than find a partner his age to enjoy and be happy with. The Canadian way would be you would be a victim and your life ruined so you needed a lawyer to represent you and get a cash settlement . I really do not know having lived more than half of my life in Canada which way is right likely a way in between the two would work best . I am sure plenty of English kids did not survive the harsh system but on the other hand so many super strong people who stand for what they believe in were produced, Canadians are super nice but stand up for nothing accept so much crap .

I was spanked in school in Canada in the early 1970's. It was a country school and everyone knew everyone and their dog. The last spanking/beating was at the teachers lounge.Over her knee,pants down with another teacher witness. She took a strap to my bare buttocks. Lets be grateful that corporal punishment has been abolished.
I am sure that all those boys who were caned and slippered at school
will feel they should now be compensated for in some way . Unfortunately
it is just not practical and so they will have to try and come to terms with the fact it was

Yes in London in the late seventies the cane and slipper were used quite often for boys at my school. It was never used for girls.

Like I wrote before and in response too Janet007. I was spanked in school in the early 1970's. I live in Canada and grew up in an isolated rural community. I witnessed a boy in my class(primary) taken to the front of the class, put over the teachers lap and had his pants and underwear pulled down. She used " the strap." I myself received corporal punishment by grade 3. I was frequently taken to the front of the whole class and put over her knee. After countless times like this she finally did it with my clothes pulled down. I dont have words to describe the humiliation I felt as she slapped my bare bottom many many times and hard. This went on as 30 other boys and girls watched. I was strapped bare bottom once too but in private. I also witnessed my best friend spanked bare in private. Yes it happened in Canada as well.
