Missed Period- Not Pregnant?

Postby XprettyvacantX7 on Sat May 03, 2008 7:07 pm

Hi, I'll be 18 years old in 4 months.

My period is exactly 3 weeks late as of today. It's never been more than 6 days late, ever. I do not use birth control. I took a home pregnancy test on the 18th day that I was late, and it came out negative. I don't know if I am pregnant, or what. I'm going to take another test on Monday. Help me?!

go to the doctor, if a pregnancy test says negative then its highly likely u r not pregnent. plus you find if you are waiting with baited breath for your period it wont come. relax and yuo may be pleasantly surprised!

very light periods

Postby verycnfused on Mon May 05, 2008 7:42 pm

Hey all! It is comforting to know that other have been going through the same thing!
I'm 19, going to be 20 in July and I lost my virginity on February 29th going into March 1st. I don't want to even say it was "actually" sex, as it was very brief and somewhat awkward. Ever since then, I've had 3 "periods" all of which have been extremely light, almost nonexistent. I've taken 4 (yes, 4) home pregnancy tests, 3 of them I took nearly 2 months after the actual act. All of them negative. I've have been completely stressed and anxious about the possibility of pregnancy even though all my tests are negative. I've also had a pelvic exam since then and the doctor didn't see anything wrong. I've had no symptoms of pregnancy besides nausea which is because of my anxiety. Could this all be just because I've been SO worried, stressed, and anxious about being pregnant?

yep.

if you get stressed enough and you'll miss the period completely. if that many pregnamcy tests are negative, and the doctor didn't see anything, then you aren't preganant.

ok, advanced mathematics lesson time. assume the pregnancy test is about 95% accurate, which is conservative. it is actually 95.4% or better. statistically, this falls within what is known as the second standard deviation. if you take the test again a days later, and it is still negative, we are now in the third standard deviation. a negative fourth test will put us somewhere in the realm of the forth to fifth standard deviation. The standard deviation gives us what is known as a confidence interval. The confidence level for the 5th standard deviation is 99.99994 percent.

Sparing eveyone the detailed mathematical calculations, what his means is you have somewhere between a 99.99366 and 99.99994 percent chance of not being pregnant. Soooooo, stop worrying :D The math tells us very confidently that you are not pregnant.

Thank you so much for the reply! I've been so completely worried for entirely too long, and most of my friends I've shared this with think I'm going crazy. I just wanted to throw this out here to more people. I've made another OBGYN apt to get on the pill to help regulate and try and get my period back on track. :D

Thank god for you girls...!

I have been searching the net for somewhere like this where girls are having the same issues as me! :)
I'm 24 and my periods have always been on a regular 28 day cycle, never more than 2 days late. This month I'm 2 weeks late, but strangely had all the symptoms I usually get before my period, general tiredness, spots etc :?
Have been so stressed out about not having my period that I am sure I have made the situation worse! Have kind of calmed myself down now about several negative pregnancy tests, but still worried to an extent there could be something seriously wrong "inside".
Had a telling off from my Mum about being a drama queen...think that put me in my place. Still really worrying though.

I have never been late for a period and I have now missed two months in a row, I have done numerous pregnancy tests and they are all negative.
I went to the doctor the first month I missed a period and he said it was either stress, diet or exercise none of these apply to me. I am only 21 so dont htink it is anything to do with the menapause
Any ideas of what could be wrong?[/quote]

I am 29 and my period is 9 weeks late. I have done 4 pregnancy tests (!!!) and all say that I am NOT pregnant. In the last couple of months I started exercising alot more than usual - from running on a treadmill for 20 mins a week, I have been doing 12 miles a week). I have been told that excessive training can cause periods to stop. I hope that is the reason...

It's good to know other people have been through the same thing and are not pregnant. I am still worried that I am even after 3 negatives! lol

Hey I was always regular then I had a period 40 days apart. Then I thought I might be pregnant so I tested on 28,32,36,38,and day 40. All neg. I had two blood tests the begining of the last two weeks of the missed period both neg. On the day I took my second test day 44 that night I started my period. It was my birthday aug. 18th, 2008. I had what I thought were signs for two weeks. I found out at week 40 I had kidney stones could explain the need to pee. Doesn't explain the rest. I was disappointed I wanted to be pregnant so badly. So give yourself at least another week test again if neg. see your doctor could be a hormonal imbalance.
Hope this helps. M Watson
