Typically this will be when she’s between 12 and 13, although it could be as early as 9. Of course she could be in the minority, who don’t reach the age of menarche until they are 15 or 16, but biologically she would still be a child and wearing socks would be totally appropriate in this instance.

Its crazy to dress teenage girls like little girls and they will only rebel. If my parents had wanted to keep me in socks I would have changed into tights as soon as I left the house as there was no way I would have obeyed them.

There's a very simple method that can be used to keep little madam in her socks. Thread a loop of white cotton through the sock and around the strap of her shoe and make sure there's a distinctive mark (e.g. with a felt-tip pen) so that you know if she has removed her socks and you can punish her accordingly. Also ensures she can't wear inappropriate footwear, such as boots, heels or trainers.

To be quite frank. Primary school (up until about 10years old) is fine. As soon as they hit secondary school, it tends to become sexualised. The older they get, the shorter their skirt gets, and tights look a lot more appropriate

I am in favour of socks for secondary school girls, but I would not want to see an older teenage girl mimic the "Britney Spears look" and look like a tart. Where schools have imposed standards on hemlines and footwear girls in the early years of secondary education (up to 14/15) can look very smart in white socks. I spotted this news story recently which shows girls over 10 can wear socks and not become sexualised.
