My bare feet meet many people and very few have ever objected to them.
On entering a restaurant or similar establishment I invariably make sure that the visible part of my feet are clean (I carry wet wipes in my bag).
My soles may be dirty but they are no dirtier than the soles of your shoes!

It is not socially acceptable to go barefoot in public. I have seen people in restaurants and ther public places barefoot and think it is tacky.
I stayed at a hotel a few months ago and the housekeeping girl that came to clean my room was in her bare feet. Do you think that is proper attire to great a guest in your establishment? I thought it was way too casual for an employee to be seen by guest.
I have removed my shoes before while sitting at my desk and I see no problem with that but when I leave my desk I always slip back into my shoes.

seriously, what's the big deal? did she hurt you by doing it? It's not like you're ever going to see her again, anyway.

Life is too short to be so concerned about the opinions of people you're never going to meet again.

I went barefoot to a 24 hour convenience store at 4:30 this morning. The only reason i did it, though was because it was at 4:30 in the morning :P

The floor by the refrigerated section where all the milk and cheese is is nice to walk on.

I don't know why so many people have a hang-up about this.

Certainly in the UK it is becomming far more common / acceptable for people to go shoeless in work.

I work as a bank clerk and like you often work shoeless. In the winter I wear trousers and ankle boots to work, and always take off my boots in the brnach and just go in my socked feet, even in front of customers, - no one has complained and my attitude is why not!! If I wear plain black socks with black trousers very few people even notice that I am not wearing anything on my feet.

Do what you find comfortable.

Jane.

It makes me very sad that now even the UK is losing his decency.
Being barefoot at your office?
Good lord!
It's such an odd hippthing. Saying: "I disrespect my culture, I don't care about being professional. I don't care about society and our economie. I am just another egoist mo**er*u**e* who sits here to get his paycheck at the end of the month."

I dislike casual fridays, I dislike smart-casual and I especially dislike employes dropping esential parts of their clothing.

If we made it depend on this people, they come barenaked to their office.
"Ya man, I was not realy in the mood this morning to dress up. Ya don't mind, do ya?"

It is really time we, as civilians, should show a bit more respect to our culture and our role in our society.

Everyman should go to it's work in a well fitting black or characotical suit, with a cleen white dress shirt, a fitting necktie, black business socks and proper cleaned black dress shoes.

And for women the same:
away with those jeans and sluthy belly baring tops.
Put on your kneehigh skirt, blouse, blazer stockings and high heels.

It's time your folks get some decency and some respect for your nations!

Some of the recent posters on this thread are so up-tight, - get a life!!

I work as a secretary for a firm of solicitors, and always go in my stockings feet in the office, even in front of clients.

No one has ever complained.

The reasons for doing it, - it is comfy and practical - try running up and down stairs all day in heels!!

I have three women who work for me at my office, often they are running errands or ect... in their stockings feet. I have no problem with them working without their shoes on. I do ask if a customer comes into the office that they discreetly put their shoes back on, but on several occasions as they go to slip on ther shoes the customer will tell them not to bother. All three aregreat workers and very professional even if they are not wearing shoes.

Seriously, if i ran an office or any type of store, shoes would not be a requirement unless it were required by law.

Bare Feet

I run a tea shop in a tourist area and I work bare foot year round.
Most of the girls who waitress for me have taken to working barefoot as well.
The customers seem to be quite happy with it.
