I have already seen a lot of what I want to see in Australia. I've been to Sydney, Alice Springs, Bungle Bungle, the Great Barrier Reef/Cairns, Uluru. I've played tennis with the locals in Broome and substituted for a team member in a local tennis league in Darwin. I've found most Australians to be good, friendly people.

Yes, they did stand with America in WWII, as Japan was getting close to their shores. But I think the real defining moment for Australia militarily came in WWI, as part of ANZAC in the Battle of Gallipoli:

When I was in Turkey, I stopped by for a visit. It was an incredible battle, with huge loses on both sides, much of it due to disease. The Turkish to this day commemorate the efforts of both sides.

I don't know about Obama, but McCain's response was somewhat shortsighted given that the US military potential is a bit stretched at the moment. And Russia is a bit more than Pakistan.

We have a public "holiday" for Anzac day on the 25th of April. While it is a day when all businesses close and is classed as a "public holiday" it's really a commemoration day to remember the Anzacs. In every capital city, there's a 6am memorial with The Last Post is played on a bugle followed by one minutes silence in memorium of the original landing in Gallipoli and those who lost their lives.

I don't think the Saddlebrook debate was one of Obama's finer moments at all. I also don't think he really believes in everything he says he stands for.

They say George Bush is religious, whew.....I have never heard a political candidate quote scripture as heavily as Obama. And he conveniently and completely by-passed the question about "when does life begin" in regards to abortion.

cambridge, of course it is difficult for America to take on Russia. But that isn't the point. The point is that McCain had the experience and judgment to immediately recognize the Russian-Georgia situation as an invasion, while obama's gut reaction is that the Russians aren't the bad guys and he urges Georgia (and Russia) to show restraint. It took obama a couple days to realize what was going on, even with the help of the event unfolding (hindsight), the press and his advisors.

Zia, in the Saddlebrook debate a defining moment was when both candidates were asked whether evil should be ignored, confronted or defeated. obama weakly and hedgingly said it should be confronted. McCain decisively and passionately said evil must be defeated.

In these dangerous times, who do you want as Commander-in-Chief protecting your country?

Someone a bit more temperate, for a change. Being commander-in-chief is a tad more than rattling sabers, I'm afraid. I can’t believe that McCain didn’t see the same thing that Obama, you and I saw. I want someone in there who knows what to do, and all of the measures that are at his or her disposal (i.e. not just the military), and has the savvy to know when to use which.

TBH, I get the sense that McCain isn’t even in charge of his own campaign. Increasingly, I find him opting for code words and slogans instead of issues and—God forgive me for saying it—leadership.

So are you saying that Russia didn't invade Georgia?

If not, what were Russian troops doing in Georgia when they were displacing civilians, blowing up infrastructure and setting up shop as close as 30 miltes from the Georgian capital? Why won't they leave and why in NATO expressing displeasure?
