What is an 'ok' age gap to have between couples?

Hello all,

What age gap do you think is ok to have between your partners?
I have met this guy and he is just lovely and we get on so well, the thing is he is 5 years younger than me. I'm 22 and he is 17. Do you think this is ok?

My friends have already made fun of me and think it is weird. Please help.

Well um... in the US he is considered an adult at age 18. So I can't classify him as a man. He's a boy. Um as soon as he turns 18 I say go for it but your going to have some issues. Some men really don't mature at a normal rate as us women. That's why you might have some trouble. He might turn out to be too immature for you in the end. It's your call though, no one can make it for you. The only positive to this situation is the sex, but that's just my opinion. Step back and wait until he's 18. I think if men can do it so can women. But don't your dare b*tch and moan at him when he doesn't live up to your expectations. He's a young child.

Erm, the law will make the call. If he’s underage, it’s a felony to even look at him in most states. You might call Debra LaFave in Florida or Mary Kay Letourneau in Washington.

Most the time, if it’s a woman on a man, the sentence will be light, US law being a double standard. But, if you’re caught, you will go down as a sex offender in the computers, for posterity. Forget about ever getting a job again, passing a bar exam, getting your teacher’s credentials or ever becoming a physician, an engineer, a license to sell securities, real estate, etc. You will become persona non gratis for the rest of your life.

But if you live in the UK or many other places, it's perfectly legal. Certainly at 17 the age gap is quite big, but when you're both in your thirties you won't even notice it.

I would enjoy the sex for the next five years (assuming you're in legal land) and then start working on the rest of the relationship when he's grown up a bit.

I think age gaps are more significant in younger couples rather that those 30 plus. Five years is nothing. If you like the guy stick with it and ignore your friends, make your own decisions.
