Dear Guest,
It would be great to think that piercings mean only what their owners think or want, but unfortunately it isn't so, and there seems to be a general perception that male navel piercings are gay. So, going for one of these will inevitably mean that at least some of the people who see it will draw that conclusion.
From what you say, it seems as though your wife isn't against piercings in principle as she has one of her own. If you are looking for something to add a bit of spice, I feel you might consider two practical choices. Firstly, if it is something entirely for the two of you, think about a Prince Albert or some other genital piercing. Or, if you are happy to 'come out' as a pierced person, go for one, or preferably both, nipples. These don't seem to carry the same stigma as the belly button piercing, and they are in a much more interesting place! Your navel isn't actually connected to any other kind of button!!! You might even think about both of you getting matching piercings.
As always, these are only personal views, but I hope they help. Good luck with your choice, and do let us know what happens
