Hello Everyone

Postby daystrom on Fri Sep 05, 2008 1:46 am

Hi there,

Just popping in so as to introduce myself proper. I came across this site while looking about on the net trying to find some information regarding women and miscarriage. You see, my girl recently miscarried and we took it rather badly. I have been concerned for her and decided to do a bit of research to see if I could better support her through this rough time. Well, I must say that I am glad that I found this site because I met some very nice, supportive people thus far who have been incredibly helpful with my particular situation. So thanks in general everyone for such a great site, and special thanks to those people who have reached out and taken the time to offer insight and kind words of support. It is a fine resource, has been for me.

Right then, on with the introduction. My name is Ray. I am a Canadian male :P in his early 30s. I am a professional soldier, have been most of my adult years, except for one small period during my mid 20s when I left the forces for a spell and backpacked around for a couple of years. I currently serve in the infantry, in a para company attached to my battalion. I have been a para for a while now and I love it. Prior to that I served as a sniper, in a recce platoon and initially in an ordinary rifle company.

Jumping from airplanes is not just a part of my job, it is a hobby that pursue outside of work. I have been skydiving for 6 years now and I own all of my own gear (it is quite an expensive hobby - rigs are pricey). Other hobbies include boxing, hunting, fishing and competitive shooting. I like alcohol but I do not drink everyday or anything. :P Just socially. I enjoy other people and am a bit of a "clown" when I have an audience.

I am currently in a relationship with a girl who is nearly 10 years my junior, in her early 20s. Strange yes, it was a bit odd at first but not for long; at present there is nothing that feels more natural. I first met her at a fellow soldier's family "get together"; she was the younger sister of a fellow soldier's wife's mate if you can follow that, and her tagging along that night was a total chance happening, a decision that she said she made at the very last minute as her earlier plans for the night had fallen through. She made me believe in the concept of love at first sight as that's exactly what I did, I fell in love with her the moment that I laid eyes on her and I knew right then that she was The One. As you can imagine, it all made for quite a moment. I immediately walked up to her and told her that I was going to marry her someday and we have been together ever since that night. One day very soon I am going to marry that girl. Her name is Pam by the way and she is the best thing that has ever happened to me. Actually, I believe that she is the best girl that has ever graced God's green earth and I am the luckiest guy in the world to have her love. I live for her and for the way which she looks at me, a look that makes me feel like I am the only guy that has ever mattered. I never want to lose that look. I vow that I will never let Pam down, not ever, no matter what.

We are both currently planning to have a baby, something that we want very much. She proposed the idea about six months ago and I immediately agreed; there is nobody else I would rather have a family with, supposing that I lived for ten lifetimes. While gender is not terribly important, for some reason I want to have a little girl, and I hope that she is as pretty as her mum, with her beautiful blue eyes, red hair and clear, creamy porcelain complexion. I hope to have 2 or 3 kids eventually, but I am open to any and all family configurations as long as she is game. As I mentioned earlier, unfortunately our first pregnancy resulted in a miscarriage. This event has hit us both quite hard. She has found the whole thing particularly difficult and it pains me to no end when I see my Pam hurting inside. I would do anything for her, anything to end her suffering and to make her happy. I wish that I could just snap my fingers and take all of her pain away.

OK, so that is me in a nutshell. Again, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the very kind and understanding people I have met thus far. You have been very supportive and great. This site has been a very pleasant surprise to me. I am glad that I stumbled across it. Thanks again everyone. It has been great making your acquaintance.

Warmest regards,

Ray

Well Ray

Glad you found our home. Sorry for your loss I'm sure god will bless you once again.

Ok enough sugar coated stuff. Yah think you gave enough info! If I were a stalker I'd figure out where you lived.

So when is the wedding Ray? Why don't you get married before having a child? I need answers…Chop Chop! And please make it good.

Welcome to the fam fam and have a ball.

Thanks a lot. I appreciate your concern, thanks.

Excellent! Stalkers are great. They get such bad rap which is really a shame. Nothing like a good stalking to keep one on their toes and spice up an otherwise boring existence. Am I right? ;)

The wedding. Soon, soon. Actually I would have it now but she wants a proper thing, lots of guests, and fancy stuff like dresses and cooked food and what not . But seriously, that is all fine by me, whatever she wants. The details seem more important to females. I mean, she has every little detail already planned. She tells me that she has had most of them worked out since she was 7. :) I also suspect that she is trying to figure out how to arrange this so that a few of my friends are on deployment someplace really far away at the time of the wedding. ;) One issue with us at present is that I am deploying very soon and will be in Afghanistan for the better part of 8 months. Tis the worst possible time for this really, what with the recent miscarriage and all. So yeah, I hope that we could get hitched after I get back but before I redeploy back there again which will be within a year of getting home. With regard to getting married before having a kid. Yeah, it is something that we discussed but we don't see it as being that large an issue in this day and age. I mean, we both love each other very much and would love the baby regardless so I don't think its too big a deal. After all, it is not 1956 anymore. :) But, I told the girl that I was going to marry her on that snowy January night a few years ago and I meant it.

As your newest bestest friend... may I make a suggestion. You might want to change your avatar. Use something military that says you... :)

Hey everyone, tks for the welcome.

Verve, will do. It is an old pic taken by the Egyptian security services actually, and was joke'ish in a way. I joined the army, quit to "find myself", hitchhiked across Africa and was arrested by the Egyptians cuz they reckoned me for a spy once they pulled my military record. After 3 days in an Egyptian jail (interesting time to say the least), I was released thanks to the "tireless" efforts of our embassy in Cairo (the f*****s let me stink and rot 2 days longer than needed IMHO). But okies, I will fire something else up when I get round to it. I later re-enlisted and here I am today, serving the country that left me in a stinking 50 degree Celsius courtyard for 3 days (and about 15ish or so fist-fights I was in before I "proved" myself to the locals and gained any respect). Oh well, I have some mates in Egypt now. ;)

So yeah, anyway, I would have responded sooner, but just after my last post I fractured 4 ribs and was prescribed a drug called Dilaudid for 2 weeks following the injury. Turns out this S*** is addictive like heroin and I was sick as F*** for about 6 days coming off that. F****** army docs. Anyway, back now, but far from whole, getting off that drug took a piece outta me like nothing else ever has.

nuff gloom and doom, good to be back, and thanks again for the welcome!

Thanks doll. :)

Ray

My edit: Although I am not required to run tomorrow morning while in the MIR (home of the "sick, lame and lazy". a.k.a. MIR Commandos), I do have to get up early for a CT scan. (yeah apparently the army has one, its prolly so old it will render me sterile, but i digress...)

So, great meeting ya!

Night. Ray

There ya go girl, its my original regimental badge. VRI, for Victoria Regina Imperatrix (we are the only Canadian unit allowed to use a deceased monarchs cipher on our uniform, a regimental distinction given to us after the Boer War). Military enough? I also have some free fall shots of me, some direct action shots I took through a spotter scope at night. I even got a shot of some brown guy with a beard that was dressed different than me that I clipped at 1km in Afghanistan with a C15 (McMillan TAC 50) if the cap badge ain't military enough. :P

[Edit] - hery Verve, here, link just above, is a good article about some of our guys that got f*cked over there. Rob was solid gold, I have known (and served) with him for years. F****** aces soldier and once again, our govt., a govt. who seems afraid of military or battle prowess cast these guys aside. They were all in a different regt. than myself, but I chewed the S*** they did on some occasions (although I was not there as early as the boys were). In any event, I think the current number is about 7 of the top 10 confirmed combat sniper kills were made by Canadians, and almost all of these, save one, occurred since the "War on Terror" began. So yeah, I respect yank troops, I respect English troops, I respect Aussie/Kiwi troops (and sorry, I dont mean to lump you together), but I am goddamn proud to be a Canadian soldier, a Canadian sniper, a Canadian para, and in a Canadian recce platoon.

Why am I saying this? Cuz I was asked fer something military. I am a soldier, I think I was since not long after being born. Some of us are like that. I dunno. It just always "fit" for me, nothing else ever has. Sorry. I wish the ladies chased us like doctors, lawyers, or pro hockey players, but they don't. Every year since 2002 I have seen guys killed who were, IMHO, far better than some NHL hockey player, or whatever else. I hate seeing a guy like ****** (I blanked the name of one of my best friends) killed by some smiling bearded ck r on a bicycle while some guy who can drop 30 pucks a season in the cage gets talked about for 3 months cuz of a god-damn trade between the Oilers and the Leafs. It dont make sense. ****** dies and they talk about hockey trades on CBC 3 minutes after they mention him getting killed, killed for 1/100th of the salary of Johnny NHL Superstar. I dunno, none of this S*** makes any sense, it has not in a long time. Yet I do it. And keep doing it.
