Aurum is renowned for its ability to cure the deepest imaginable depressions and suicidal states. The patient may feel no connection to life, existing in a dark and isolated void. Seeing a single patient overcome a life time of joyless existence and bloom into happiness after Aurum pays for every hour of our years of study. This is a remedy that often suites people who are very intense, idealistic and who want to be the best and set high goals. When these goals are frustrated in some way, the Aurum patient will go through a period of tremendous irritability, and even violent ideas or thoughts. It is also a remedy which can be devastated by grief and disappointed love relations. Often the patient will have deep religious convictions. Finally, despite the spiritual work, the patient goes toward deep, clinical depressions and suicide.
Many prescribers shun the use of this powerful polycrest if suicidal feelings are not present. However, many cases which require Aurum have no suicidal intent nor even conscious depression, instead the patient presents as an overly-serious and polished individual with abnormal focus on career and achievement. Such individuals are also vulnerable to addictive behaviors and drug or alcohol abuse. Nancy Herrick of the Hahnemann Clinic presented a medley of video taped cases emphasizing the desire for meditation practice and deep spiritual longings of Aurum patients. One of her cases was deeply disturbed and actively hallucinating.
Aurum is one of our main anti-syphilitic remedies. The physical pathology often involves headache, sinusitis, and heart disease.

The need for creativity and the salts of gold (aurum)
The Midas touch is often used to describe someone that is so creative as to metaphorically turn everything they touch into gold. The underlying scientific truth of this expression is particularly relevant to the aurum salts in homeopathy. The aurum salts are associated with creativity. They are recommended for particularly skilled people. These are visionaries, creative, workaholics. They are happiest when they are creative. They are the winners in the track of noble competition. That is the reason why the gold medal is awarded to those who come first. (Those who come second are awarded the silver medal. This means that society values creativity above consistency).

However, when this element exists in excess, the individuals begin to suffer from the “gold disease”. They are unable to enjoy the simple things in life and they are at risk of being afflicted by melancholy. They are like Midas who turned everything he touched into gold, but was unhappy because he could not enjoy the things that ordinary people had.

At this point it is important to note that often people under homeopathic treatment report that after some time they notice an increased creativity and new ideas. This is something natural and expected. Creativity, as a concept, is of superior importance in the universe. Creativity is very important to human beings. The better our mental state the higher our ability to create.

· The Aurum Metallicum types demonstrate an excessive aptitude for vision. Having a vision and working towards it is essential for success. However, the mental state of Aurum Metallicum is far removed from the tendency to altruistic vision, or in other words from social visions without selfish motives. On the contrary, the Aurum Metallicum type is associated with selfish vision.

As a result these individuals wish to be at the top, to be the best and try very hard for that. They work from morning till night in order to achieve it. Aurum individuals are particularly hard-working. They work untiringly and systematically. They possess an inner drive towards the realisation of their visions. But if they come second they consider it as a major failure. Aurum individuals cannot tolerate defeat. When they lose they fall ill because they want to always win.

The Aurum individual is serious, tight-lipped, very responsible and touchy. They cannot tolerate being doubted. Their general behaviour does not allow that anyway. They are consistent and hasty as well. They want their work to be done quickly and properly.

They possess an inner strength that is obvious to others as well. Consequently, they easily become the leader of a group or a family. Everybody relies on them. They provide others with the stability of a rock and the safety of a shelter, like a harbour. They always give to others, work for them but not without personal gain. Although they give to others they also need them on their side. Consequently, they feel easily abandoned, neglected, and as if they are loosing the affection of others, something that makes them very angry.

These individuals, despite the inner strength they possess and exude, are particularly sensitive. They get easily hurt or disappointed, they easily feel humiliated, neglected or unappreciated, or they might get easily angry. Their anger can be violent. In such moments they are nothing like their usual self. However, their anger is usually not expressed.

· The Aurum Sulphuratum types demonstrate all the features of Aurum with an additional unmistakable sulphur influence. The individuals feel unappreciated by others or make great efforts to gain appreciation, praise and admiration. They may be visionaries and natural leaders, but they often feel that they are not appreciated despite their efforts. They can also be the strong individuals on whom everybody relies, and still feel they are not really appreciated as much as they should be. They constantly try to gain appreciation. When they fail despite their efforts, they become irritable and very critical to others.

The Aurum Iodatum types combine the aurum with the iodine features, namely the insecurity of being abandoned. They are therefore assertive and visionary Aurum individuals, but are also afraid they will be abandoned by those who support them. Because of the fear of abandonment, they get overly attached to others and try to keep them close in any way they can.

The insecurity of being abandoned makes them give themselves to others, albeit in a cumbersome manner. Because the behaviour of others is often perceived as abandonment, these individuals become irritable.

The Aurum Muriaticum type demonstrates a general feeling of disappointment. It is the disappointment of someone whose visions were not realised, either because of adversities in their life, or because others did not perform their duty. The disappointment of individuals with Aurum features may be directed to those they supported and helped. It is also likely that even though no incidents actually took place, these “visionaries” will simply tell you that they get easily disappointed. They might also say that they are afraid of being disappointed by people they support, to whom they constantly give and for whom they work very hard.

They are introverted and do not express their complaints to others. They do not tolerate contradiction and they demand obedience. When this does not happen they get angry with others.

The Aurum Muriaticum Natronatum types display the main features of Aurum combined with frequent disappointments in their love life or the insecurity of being disappointed in their relationship.

These individuals are very particular in their choice of partners because they are afraid of being disappointed. In other cases, they only form casual relationships and avoid getting involved seriously. It is an excellent remedy for those who are undecided about getting married. At the same time, they tend to be visionaries with all the associated features of Aurum. The Aurum Muriaticum Natronatum individuals often feel they should have the upper hand in their relationship so as not to get disappointed. This can often occur during puberty which is a particularly turbulent period and where the subject of relationships is particularly pertinent. Aurum Muriaticum Natronatum is a very useful remedy for depression due to disappointments at this age. There may exist suicidal tendency or even attempted suicide. However, previous disappointment in love is not required for someone to be given this remedy. It can be suitable for suicidal tendency at any age and for whatever reason. In these cases however, there exists a chronic disappointment in the love life of the individual.

· The Aurum Arsenicosum types, besides the features of Aurum, demonstrate the features of Arsenicum; namely lack of trust, intense suspicion of being deceived or robbed. As a result, they can be ambivalent; on the one hand they are the pillar and the leader of the group, and on the other hand they cannot trust the very people they support and guide. This makes them very controlling. They want to control everyone and everything. They also demonstrate a tendency for order and diligence. They want to be good in everything they do and they agonise as to whether they have done what they should, or whether what they did is right and not wrong.

· The Aurum Bromatum types believe that they will be abused, either because they are at the top, or because of their visions and what they have achieved in general. The sense that they will be abused if they are not at the top also pertains to the psychopathology of this remedy.

A Mind-Boggling Kind of Medicine
Homeopathy is unlike any other form of medicine. A single homeopathic medicine treats all of the symptoms of the patient, not only the chief complaint. The effect of one dose can last for months, or even years. There is no expiration date on the medicines — they can last for life. Ten different patients with asthma may need ten different medicines. The medicines are safe for newborns and pregnant moms yet powerful enough to arrest bleeding within minutes and to bring comatose patients back into waking consciousness within minutes. Absolutely any substance in nature can be made into a homeopathic medicine. These are a few of the mind-boggling yet true facts about homeopathy. Our form of medicine is not as straightforward as other modalities and strains many a mind to disbelief. Added to this confusion are a number of misconceptions that we would like to clarify in this article.

Homeopathic Medicine is Slow-Acting
This is an erroneous comment that we sometimes hear, especially when we travel in India. The pace of the reaction to a homeopathic medicine depends on the nature of the illness, the vital force of the patient, and the accuracy of the prescription. Response to acute illnesses are often very rapid. Judyth remembers when she was a student clinician at Bastyr University in 1982. She gave a dose of Pulsatilla to a sweet, little, blonde girl, complaining of a very sore throat, curled up lethargically in her mom's lap. No sooner did Judyth turn around after administering the medicine than the child was racing up and down the halls oblivious to any pain or discomfort. Then there was the time Judyth turned her ankle running down the concrete steps to her house and fell to the ground in acute pain. On her way to a meeting, she was determined to reach her Arnica. After literally crawling up two flights of stairs, she grabbed a dose of Arnica 30C and felt ninety percent pain-free within five minutes. Able to drive to and attend her commitment, she needed one additional dose of the Arnica three hours later. Or the time she scalded herself with soup while shopping at a local co-op. Another shopper, having witnessed the accident, expressed concern twenty minutes later. Judyth assured him that the pain of the burn was gone within seconds of taking Cantharis.

Granted, the above are first-aid situations. The response to acute illnesses, physical or mental, is often seen within twenty-four hours. We can't tell you the number of times we have prescribed homeopathic medicines for bladder infections and received reports from the patients that the symptoms either resolved or improved dramatically within twenty to thirty minutes. One patient suffered from a severe uterine hemorrhage. Within a day of taking Belladonna, it was as if a faucet were turned off. Another Judyth story: during her last and most excruciating miscarriage a number of years ago, even Demoral did not touch the pain. But moments after a dose of Aurum metallicum, she could finally relax and find relief from unrelenting, labor-like pain.

In chronic conditions, the response time may be longer. Many patients find initial relief within a few days to a week of taking the medicine. Whether the problem is temper tantrums of a child with oppositional defiant disorder, the wrenching pain of a ruptured disk, the agony of suicidal depression, or the heart palpitations secondary to a panic attack, the patient will notice an amelioration of symptoms within days to weeks of being medicated. By the time of the follow-up visit, generally six weeks, the symptoms are typically at least 60 to 70% better, sometimes more. In the case of depression, for example, it is likely that the homeopathy will act more quickly than an antidepressant.

There is Nothing in Homeopathic Medicines
Homeopathic medicines are prepared by a method of serial dilution. We, like most other homeopathic practitioners, most often use centesimal. or C, dilutions. These have been diluted one part mother tincture to 99 parts water or alcohol. A 30C potency has gone through this process thirty times; a 200C two hundred times, a 1M one thousand times, and a 10M ten thousand times. We agree that there is nothing chemical or physiological in a potency higher than 30C, however there is some kind of pattern of the original substance that remains. What exactly this pattern is has been argued widely, but the most promising theory to date has to do with water holding memory. When tested by nuclear magnetic resonance or chromatography, each medicine and each potency of that medicine is distinct and unique. So, although each homeopathic medicine is infused into sugar pills and look and taste identical, each has its own particular pattern and properties.

Homeopathy Doesn't Work
This is what the naysayers insist on although, consistently, they are the ones who have never tried homeopathy. While it is true that an incorrectly prescribed homeopathic medicine may have no effect whatsoever on the symptoms, an accurate prescription can have definite, sometimes dramatic results. We and many other homeopaths not only take detailed notes during the homeopathic interview (even attempting to record the interview verbatim), but, with permission, may videotape patient interviews. We challenge anyone who dismisses homeopathy out of hand and insists it has no efficacy to watch these before and after videos. It is inconceivable to us, who have been treating patients day in and day out for twenty years and witness the positive results of homeopathy regularly, that anyone could say homeopathy simply doesn't work. We are the first to admit that we may not understand how homeopathy works but, nevertheless, it does.

Homeopathic Medicines Act as a Placebo
We take a patient's case, analyze the symptom picture, and choose the medicine we believe to be the best suited for the individual. In the case of chronic illness, we again see or talk to the patient six weeks or so later to evaluate. In many cases the patient reports a clear improvement and all are in agreement that the medicine has acted well. In some cases, however, there is no response whatsoever, despite our sincere efforts to understand the patient and select the correct medicine and the patient's sincere desire to get well. We only wish in such a case that homeopathy were a placebo so that they would get well anyway.

You Can't Use Caffeine or Mint While on Homeopathy
There are varying beliefs about which substances or factors, interfere with or interrupt the action of homeopathic medicines. There are some who say that nothing at all will affect the correct medicine. We know of one doctor, a self-taught homeopath, who advises his patients to strictly avoid even garlic and cayenne. In our experience, there are a few things that are best avoided during homeopathic treatment although the more sensitive the patient to that particular influence, the more like an antidote will occur. We have found it best to stay away from coffee or coffee-containing products, at least until it is clear whether the medicine you have taken is the correct one. Other caffeinated beverages and substances do not have any disturbing effect on homeopathic treatment.

Other influences that we have found repeatedly to interrupt the positive effects of a homeopathic medicine are aromatic products made from trees such as eucalyptus, camphor, tea tree, and pine. In this day of ubiquitous aromatic substances, this is probably the biggest challenge to homeopathic medicines, though espresso-laced chocolate products run a close second.

I've Tried Homeopathy and It Doesn't Work For Me
We have heard this complaint a number of times. First, much of what people mistakenly consider to be homeopathy is herbal tinctures or muscle testing or other therapies that have nothing at all to do with homeopathic treatment. It is a simple matter of confusion. Second, some say homeopathy is not effective for them because they've only tried self-prescribed combination or low-potency medicines. Third, there are those who have tried one homeopath or one medicine and throw the baby out with the bath water. Although not everyone can be helped by any therapy, the likelihood that you as an individual can be helped with homeopathy if you continue treatment with a competent homeopath for at least one year is very high. The cutting edge of homeopathy is getting sharper by the month due to a plethora of new provings and breakthroughs so even if one homeopath has not been able to help you, another who is more experienced, embraces a different style of practice, or can just find a new insight or slant on your case, may well be able to find a medicine that will be well worth the wait.

You Have to Believe in Homeopathy for It to Work
Even folks who are skeptics can benefit from homeopathic treatment. We saw one of our long-term patients the other day and she reminded us that she was one of those who came to us and homeopathy out of desperation. Although it made no sense to her, it was her last resort. Now, years later and feeling terrific, she admits that she may not know how or why homeopathy works, but it does. As long as disbelief does not lead to sabotaging or abandoning treatment, homeopathy should work just as well as with those who are already in the choir, so to speak. Another way we know that homeopathy is not just for believers is that infants and animals, who have no vested interest or conviction in the effectiveness of homeopathy, can respond beautifully to homeopathy.

Homeopathy Works Better for Children than for Adults
It is true that children are sometimes easier to treat because they tend to be on fewer medications (although this is unfortunately changing in our current culture) and are less intellectualized and therapized. However, we often see even more far-reaching results with adults simply because they are more able to verbalize their symptoms and their state. A child's freshness and candor can be more than made up for by the depth of experience of an adult. It is never too late to begin homeopathic care — even on one's deathbed.

Homeopathy May Be Okay for Minor Problems But Not Serious Ones
Homeopathy shines in chronic, as well as acute and in severe, as well as minor, physical, mental, and emotional disease. We have seen tremendous results in patients with longstanding suicidal depression, intractable pain, and lifelong physical complaints. Although patients taking a collection of conventional medications may not present a clear enough symptom picture to find an excellent homeopathic match, a longstanding history of symptomatology is no impediment to successful homeopathic treatment. In India entire homeopathic hospitals are devoted to care of the most serious illnesses.

Homeopathy Won't Work for Infections
This is a common misconception that we face regularly in practice, especially since we treat so many children. Once a patient is diagnosed with an "infection," be it a sinus infection, vaginal infection, mastitis, or a dental abscess, he or she is likely to spring for the magic antibiotic bullet.

When used appropriately, antibiotics can be a lifesaver. When overused, they can lead to antibiotic resistance. Just yesterday a friend was recounting to us the story of some American armed forces members who had received so many antibiotics so casually for years that they actually died of strep throat! In our practice, we find that homeopathy works for infections a good 90% of the time. If we have a patient with rapidly progressing pneumonia or a cellulitis with red streaks up the extremity or a deep infection threatening bone, of course we refer immediately for antibiotics. But in a general homeopathic family practice, these are by far the exception, not the rule.

Homeopathic Medicines Made from Certain Substances are Dangerous
It may be a bit shocking to think of taking a homeopathic medicine made from poisonous snake or spider venom or the products of disease, such as tuberculosis. But, if you remember how homeopathic medicines are made and that only the impression or memory of the original substance remains, it soon becomes obvious that there is no danger at all of toxicity. Once we received a telephone call from a local emergency room inquiring as to whether a child who had ingested a bottle of homeopathic Arsenicum album (made from arsenic) was in any danger. She was not, regardless of how much she would have swallowed. One of the original ways that old homeopaths obtained information about which medicines could cure which symptoms was to study poisonings. But homeopathic medicines themselves, regardless of whether they are made from a scorpion or cyanide, are never poisonous.

Patients are the Best Advertisement for Homeopathy
Now that you know what is not true about homeopathy, we encourage you to do more reading or research or to treat yourself for acute conditions or seek the care of a competent homeopath, to try it out for yourself. Many of the skeptics in homeopathic history are the ones who later became the most vocal proponents of its effectiveness.

Miasms in homeopathy
When Hahnemann discovered homeopathy he had very good results from it but he couldn't understand why it didn't produce one hundred percent success. In his book "Chronic Diseases" he discusses his theory that all disease has an underlying root, a morbific influence, a Miasm, which sometimes has to be addressed directly before cure can be achieved with the usual homeopathic remedy.

He associated miasms with specific diseases that had dogged mankind throughout the ages. The first, the most fundamental and ubiquitous of these he called 'Psora': the itch. This was typified by Scabies, but relates to any condition that erupts on the skin and which specifically itches (there are skin eruptions which don't itch). Because scabies epitomised Psora he concluded that the homeopathic remedy to address Psora should be produced from scabies itself. Hence the homeopathic remedy to directly address Psora is a product of the scabies vesicle, and is known as 'Psorinum'. Psorinum is a nosode. It is unlikely that anyone is free from the miasmatic influence of Psora. It is considered as the most all-pervasive miasm of all the world over and the basis for the origination of disease. Its keyword is underfunction. Therefore any disease process typified by underfunction is said to be of the Psoric miasm

Other miasms Hahnemann discusses are the 'Sycotic' miasm (keyword overfunction) and the 'Leutic' miasm (keyword self-destructive). These original three presented by Hahnemann 200 years ago have been added to progressively since his time, the best known being the Tubercular Miasm (keyword restriction) and the Cancer miasm (keyword suppression).

Having a miasmatic influence doesn't mean the patient suffers from the illness that the nosode is produced from, i.e. the Psoric miasmatic influence doesn't mean the patient will have scabies, rather they will have ailments of underfunction; (as this is a broad brush it will be discussed in greater detail elsewhere). Similarly the other miasms do not imply the patient will have the disease associated with them, but their influences will be seen, e.g. suppression will be seen in those with the cancer miasm.

All diseases are said to have miasmatic influences so, the specific nosodes aside, all homeopathic remedies are also said to have a sphere of action addressing different miasms to either a greater or lesser degree. The top Psoric remedy is said to be Sulphur, the top Sycotic remedy is Thuja, and the top Leutic remedy is Mercury. Thus knowing which miasm is dominant in a case helps to determine the remedy. E.g. Itchy skin is an symptom of underfunction and therefore Psoric, so Sulphur will be considered. Warts are a symptom of overfunction and therefore Sycotic, and so Thuja will be considered. Ulcers are a symptom of self-destruction and therefore Leutic, so Mercury will be considered.

A single miasm may be dominant throughout a case or there may be more than one miasm evident at different stages of treatment. Therapeutically the effects of the miasms are addressed by remedies that have a strong affinity to the dominant miasm or by the use of nosodes. The nosodes each address a specific miasm whereas most remedies can be said to be multi-miasmatic.

syphilitic miasm

THE SYPHILITIC MIASM

The etiology of a disease, the constitutional temperament of the patient, and the totality of the signs and symptoms are three factors that form a complete picture of a disease. In Homoeopathy we often speak of the totality of the symptoms as the basis of selecting a remedy, but sometimes we forget to include the causative factors, miasms, and the physical constitution of the individual. The physical signs of a person are fundamental to the treatment of chronic disorders because the constitution and temperament shows the effects of the inherited miasms. We must get beyond relying solely on the personal or family history to uncover miasms. The syndromes produced by the miasms point to the fundamental cause even if it can not be traced in the case taking to a specific etiologic factor.

Knowledge of all miasmatic phenomena would be a complete knowledge of all that is known as disease. Hahnemann discovered the miasms due to the fact these ailments kept coming back, year after year. Even when the correct remedy was given, there was no permanent cure. Hahnemann's proof of the existence of miasms was the persistency of these chronic diseases even after taking care of other disease causing factors like diet, hygiene etc. They seem to come from within the organism, from some peculiar dynamis within, from something that was deranged within the life-force itself, inherent, internal, pre-existing within the dynamis.

Syphilitic miasm owes its name to the fact that it shows an innate inclination to destruction, which is a predominant feature in syphilis. It has been tormenting the human race before the outbreak of syphilis. We should consider syphilis as one of the most probable manifestations of the syphilitic miasm. Certainly if Hahnemann was alive today, he would pick another name for this miasm.

One of the predominant features in syphilitic miasm is the tendency to conquer. He constantly wants to conquer something. After the conquest the object conquered loses its importance, it may even disgust him. He has set himself a new target; he is a hard person to satisfy, that is to say. The syphilitic is the kind of person to be easily envious. Whatever catches his eye, he wants to have it.

Another major feature of syphilitic miasm is the person’s tendency to destruction. Hooligans, for example, destroy everything, whatever they run across. They destroy even when their team wins. They go to sports field not in order to enjoy the game but to destroy. Destruction is a delight to them.

Thus, whereas the psoric fan will be modest and will respect the rules and the opponent and whereas the sycotic fan will tend to show off by wearing multi-colored scarves of his team, the syphilitic person seeks destruction at every single moment.

The syphilitic religious person also destroys in the name of God in whom he believes. He wants to kill, to eliminate the supporter of a different religion; in contrast to the psoric person who penetrates the deeper meaning of religion and who is a religious philosopher as well as the sycotic person who sticks to ritualism.

Another syphilitic expression of religious sentiment is the rites of “Black Magic”. The believer invokes the God of conquest and destruction in order to achieve his aims, either of conquest or destruction. Another frequent syphilitic picture is atheism.

The “iconoclast” who respects nothing, who believes in nothing, is also another syphilitic expression. Religion is an expression of the law, the syphilitic struggles against the law. Syphilitic persons do not have a developed social consciousness; they cannot offer other people anything of themselves.

They are anti-heroes; they do not accept having social obligations. They refuse to do their military service as by law enacted. There is a lack of social consciousness and we can also notice a dependence on family. This dependence shows a profound immaturity. It is a form of dependence that does not correspond to his age but bears elements of infantile dependence.

This is due to the fact that the personality is not adequately formed, so it collapses under the impact of a stress producing stimulation and the person adopts more primitive ways of functioning, in other words he behaves like an infant. This tendency to dependence is the main predisposing factor to dependence on toxic substances and alcohol, which in their heavy forms are syphilitic situations.

Another feature described above is how easily the syphilitic person becomes disorganized under the impact of a stress producing stimulation. Even in the case of a stimulation of medium intensity there is a tendency to disorganisation, complete disorganisation, till the person is brought to the verge of the organism’s destruction. So it happens, for example, during a psychotic incident. The syphilitic reaction to a stimulation, which an ordinary man considers to be of medium intensity, is a complete disorganisation, a complete loss of contact with reality.

The syphilitic’s person anger is a violent, explosive anger that scares the people present. It is characterized by destructiveness. The psoric person is hot-tempered, as a result of his intense oversensitivity. It is, however, a superficial and temporary annoyance. After having expressed himself, the annoyance is gone. The sycotic person usually controls his anger but when expressed, is excessive; so excessive that he becomes the focus of attention. In no case, however, will he scare the others, as the syphilitic person will.

The syphilitic person’s sadness is marked by destructiveness too. The person thinks there is no sense in living any longer. He is gloomy, sad and dismal. He denies life completely. He is not interested in anything; in contrast to the sycotic person, who shows his sadness through face expression, body posture and tears, and contrary to the psoric person, who retires into himself, possessed with feelings of inadequacy.

At moments of joy he is characterized by destructiveness as well. He wants to destroy out of joy. This destructiveness may manifest itself either outwards or inwards by driving the person mad. Someone losing his senses on a happy occasion is syphilitic miasm; contrary to the sycotic person, who wants everyone to share in his joy, and contrary to the psoric person, who behaves like a child when he becomes emotional.

Intense desire to put an end to one’s life is syphilitic miasm as well. Suicide or Murder. It is an expression of the destructiveness typical of the syphilitic person. Generally speaking, the syphilitic person does not experience joy. He cannot feel the simple joys of life. For example, at a child’s birth the syphilitic person will be thinking to himself: “Why have you come to this world? …You’d better not have been born…Troubles and worries await you”.

On the other hand the sycotic person will be boasting about his child, trying to point out the new-born’s natural gifts, and he wants everyone to admire his child, whereas the enthusiastic psoric person behaves like a child out of joy.

Each of the chronic miasm has its own characteristic signs that are an integral part of the totality of the symptoms. For example, Psora tends to produce irritation, inflammation, and hypersensitivity; Sycosis infiltrations, indurations, and over growth. Pseudo-Psora tends toward tubercles, fibrosis and suppuration; Syphilis tends toward granulation, degeneration and ulceration.

As far as the physical constitution, Psora tends to make the organism toxic, the skin unhealthy, and perverts the functions of the digestive and eliminative organs. Pseudo-Psora tends to produce pipe stem bones, narrow chests, sunken cheeks and sparkling eyes. Sycosis tends to cause heavy bones, water retention, over growth of tissue and slow metabolism. Syphilis tends to cause congenital defects, asymmetrical bony structure, deformed teeth and the classic bull dog face.

The Syphilis temperament has a mixture of madness and genius with a deep sense of irony that leads to obsession with death and destruction. They have strong, pessimistic view on life, cannot modify what is wrong, give-up, destroy, feel no point in trying to adjust, and have sudden impulsive violence directed at him or others. They become guilty, self destructive, and end in idiocy, insanity or suicide.

The pains of Syphilis seem lacking for the condition present or are deep, aching, agonizing, tearing, bursting, burning and esp. < at night. Discharges of Syphilitic miasm are very offensive, foul, putrid, smelly discharges.

The Syphilitic skin has brownish red, or coppery color spots, eruptions that do not itch, and a tendency toward easy ulceration – a typical physical manifestation of syphilitic miasm. Ulcer is a destructive process. There is destruction of shape, destruction of structure at some point of the tissue which is slow to heal. Complaints are < by heat of bed. Spoon shaped thin nails that tear easily.

The Syphilitic clinical conditions include blindness, ulcerations in veins and bones, carcinomas, fistulas, gangrene, hyperextension, bone marrow inflammation, insanity due to depression, leucorrhoea, rheumatism of long bones, skin disease which ooze putrid pus, ulcerated sore throat, history of abortions, sterility, immature death, ischemic heart disease, suicidal deaths, insanity, destructive/last stage of cancer, disseminated tuberculosis, ulcers of ear, nose, urinary organs, mouth.

<!--[if !supportLists]-->The Aurum Metallicum types demonstrate an excessive aptitude for vision.

You mentioned "suicide states"... Did you know that every dead and alive suicide victim that was examined, was found to have the top vertebra of their spine dislocated..? Maybe a chiropractor could help..?
